Laos has been a part French-controlled Indochina since the 1960s. In 1961, the United States joined the Vietnam War. A secret war in Laos was started shortly after. The CIA was responsible for a covert operation against Pathet Lao communists.
The mission of CIA in Laos consisted of fighting the communist threat to the country. However, the agency also recruited tens upon thousands of Hmong fighters. The war was a guerrilla one, but it had a humanitarian component. A special force was trained in southern Laos and was called the Special Guerrilla Unit. These units were used for attacking North Vietnamese soldiers. These units were ultimately defeated and the United States ended its involvement in Laos.
The first secret war in CIA history was in Laos. Its cost was equivalent to $3Billion today. Also, the number of CIA contractors living in the country grew by 2000% in the past decade.
Many thousands of pro-American Laos were either killed or forced into prison camps. Others were led into the jungle by their guards. Some families were destroyed permanently. Those who survived were left to live at night in caves or on farms.

At times, CIA managed battle strategy, but most of the time it was left to the locals. Many villages were destroyed and thousands of civilians were killed by the CIA's aerial attacks.
Throughout the "Secret War", tens of thousands of Lao patriots were killed. The United States pulled out from South Vietnam and Laos lost financial support. The CIA could no longer operate as it did before.
The CIA created a clandestine Hmong army as a result. It was a way to avoid the prohibition of direct military assistance in Geneva Accords. Many Laos believed Communists were trying the overthrow of the nation. However, they resisted.
During the war the CIA also established "Lima Sites" or ports of entrance throughout the country. These were used to move Hmong troops around and import supplies. LS-36, one of the most important Lima Sites, was also one. Another notable site was LS-20A.
Eventually, the CIA decided to evacuate Laos after the war. The United States gave up its financial and military support to Laos following the Paris Peace Treaty. In the end, however, the CIA operation in Laos proved to be a success. And the CIA had helped stop the spread of communism in Laos.

The Secret War in Laos involved a complex and messy process. The CIA's efforts at fighting the communist threat to Laos were successful. But it was a huge disaster for American relations with Lao government.
Although the US-led Secret War in Laos is now over, its legacy can still cause havoc. The country still has hundreds of UXOs littering its countryside. Khamvongsa lobbied the US to resolve this problem. He is currently writing a new book about war, which will focus on the most important characters in the Laos conflict.
FAQ
Is there a Hollywood blacklist.
There is a Hollywood blacklist.
The list isn’t available for public viewing. According to our knowledge, the names of these people aren't known. This is why it matters.
The secret is because the directors and actors on blacklist wouldn't have any job opportunities. They would go out of business which would mean that studios would lose their money. That would result in a reduction in spending on movies. This would lead to fewer opportunities and less money for blacklisted directors. They could go bankrupt.
Which could ultimately result in more victims.
In other words, if someone is trying to make an Oscar winning movie, they might have to sign a contract that says they won't speak openly against their employers. The same goes for any director or producer who wants to get nominated for an award.
This is why you'll hear about directors being pressured by producers to take scenes out of their films. Directors threaten to abandon projects that don’t conform to their vision.
This is why Hollywood has a blacklist. If you make negative comments about your employer, it's likely that you will be unemployed. It's not good for anyone.
The problem is that many people have been falsely accused. They have had to fight for their freedom.
This must be stopped before it happens again. Everybody should be able to freely express themselves.
Also, we must take down the Hollywood blacklist.

Have you ever wondered how much trash is produced worldwide each day?
The United Nations states that an average person produces more than 2.5 pounds of waste per day. That's over 25 billion pounds of garbage each year!
Most of the trash ends up at incinerators and landfills. But, what happens to those dumpsters? All that trash ends up being shipped out of country. The trash is then sent out of the country and dumped in countries where it pollutes ecosystems. But, one man has now discovered exactly where this rubbish goes. Mike Sexton is his full name. He runs a company called Waste Watchers. He spends his days watching the movements of trucks transporting trash across North America. He reports back to us about the next steps.
Sexton claims he is very satisfied with his job. "We've got a lot of fun," he told CNN. "You know, we see these big rigs come through town, and we'll follow them. "Sexton started following truck driver almost 20 years back.
He stated, "I just fell in Love with It."
His favorite story involved a driver who pulled off at an abandoned gas station near Los Angeles. Sexton said that the man was searching for a place to store his stuff. "He drove down the road to see this building. So he backed up and went inside. "There was a pair of large, full-sized roll-off boxes. The man got everything out of the truck and began filling it up again. "The man looked around the area and decided to unload all of it. There were lots of old tires, rags furniture, mattresses, mattresses, cans, cans, and other items. "It was just total chaos. But it had been cleared out before he arrived. There wasn’t trash everywhere."
So why did this happen? It's because this area used to be a recycle center. People would drive from all over the country to recycle their trash. Sexton explained that people would bring home their household items, and then take them to the building. After they were done, they would dispose of the empty containers.
This can happen hundreds of times a week. The truck can be stopped running if it is so full of junk that it has to come back hundreds of times per week. The truck eventually stops running and the owner decides that it is time to get rid of the vehicle.
Trash is not the only problem our planet faces.
Many of these tiny plastic pieces end up in landfills and incinerators. Some are washed into rivers and oceans. Others end up with fish in their stomachs.
Experts warn that if there is no change, the world could soon be facing a food shortage. Experts warn, "If you keep going like you're going," we could soon face a global food shortage. What is the most secretive location in the entire world?
You might be surprised at the answer. You might be uncomfortable with the truth of it, as it may challenge your perception of reality. There is a reason this place exists and it's not as you might expect.
The ancient Greeks called it the City of God. According to the Bible, it was called the City of Destruction.
It is also called Kashi in India (Kashmir). It's also known as Novgorod in Russia.
However, in America it is called The Town that Disappeared.
A small community of 1200 people in western New York State vanished. There were no bodies, cars or houses left behind, but a road sign that pointed to the former location was all that was left.
This little community vanished and no trace remains to indicate where or when it disappeared. Some claim the earth swallowed it. Others claim that a meteorite hit destroyed it. Others believe that aliens took it.
Despite what may have happened, the people who lived in this once-thriving area are confident that their town will not be lost forever. They had just relocated to another town.
There is even a website dedicated to tracking the disappearance of the lost city of Zugspitz.
Then, where is it? Well, it's in Switzerland!
You can find Zugspitze at the border of Austria and Germany. Lake Zugspitze can be found just beyond the summit.
It has always fascinated my that so many towns have disappeared but others still exist. Why is it that some disappear while others live on? I decided to investigate.
I wanted to know more about the mysterious disappearing towns. What causes a community to disappear? What makes a place disappear?
There are several theories behind the disappearing of towns. One theory suggests that a community disappears when all of its buildings are removed. Another theory holds that the town simply relocates to another location. A third theory states that the town didn't exist at all.
No matter what theories you may have, there is no doubt that many towns across the globe were swallowed by the ground. This video looks into the history of those places and investigates their current status.
