The portrait of Jesus Christ, titled "The Man of Sorrows", was created by Florentine artist Sandro Botticelli. This painting is a rare and important work by the Renaissance artist. The work is thought to have been created in the late 15th- or early 16th century and has been private property since the 19th. Botticelli's Man of Sorrows will sell for over $40 million. Sotheby's will sell the painting in January 2022. It will also be on display in London, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Botticelli was a passionate Dominican and his art clearly shows the influence of Savonarola. Botticelli's faith was strong in the 15th century. His paintings reflect that spirituality. His devotional paintings mix form and substance and combine Christian symbolism. His late religious paintings are a reflection of the fervent preaching of the Dominican friar Girolamo Savonarola.
The painting is rich in detail and very well done. There are sharp contrasts between rough surfaces, and the use of color is very effective. This painting depicts a bust-length portrait, thorn-crowned Christ. It is surrounded in angels holding the Arma Christi (Arms of Christ), which are his weapons to defeat Satan. The painting is also reminiscent of the works of German Renaissance artist Albrecht Durer, who is known for his crowns of thorns.

Sotheby’s reports that the painting had been purchased in 1963 by an American buyer. It is believed to be part of the collection that Adelaide Kemble Sartoris, an English opera singer (1814-1879). The painting was bought at a Sotheby's auction. It is considered an autograph-quality piece of art.
Botticelli’s Man of Sorrows is the second highest-priced Old Master painting sold at an auction in the past five. Sotheby's purchased it for $92 million in January 2020. This sale helped to increase the value of Old Master paintings at an auction. This sale also marked a significant shift in Sotheby's focus.
The Man of Sorrows painting is an ingenious composition, and is believed to have been produced in the late 1500s. Botticelli used a drawing panel to produce the extraordinary composition of Christ. Although the image was not complete at first, an analysis of it revealed that Botticelli intended to paint the Madonna with Child.
The Man of Sorrows could be sold January 2022. This follows the January 2021 sale by Sotheby's of Botticelli's 'Young Man Handling a Roundel'. This painting was the most expensive Old Master piece ever sold at an auction. According to Sotheby's the Man of Sorrows is being sold in New York as part of their Masters Week sale series in January 2022. The painting will go to London and Dubai, as well as being offered at a New York pre-sale event in January.

The Man of Sorrows, along with the 'Young Man Holding a Rowel', helped to boost the value of Old Master paintings. Only three Botticelli's last works are currently in private hands.
FAQ
Do you wonder how much trash is produced each day across the globe?
The United Nations estimates that the average person generates more than 2.5 pounds of waste each day. This adds up to over 25 million pounds of garbage annually!
The majority of this garbage ends up in incinerators or landfills. But what happens when the dumpsters become full? All that trash ends up being shipped out of country. The trash is then sent out of the country and dumped in countries where it pollutes ecosystems. But, one man has now discovered exactly where this rubbish goes. Mike Sexton is his name. He is the founder of Waste Watchers. He watches over trucks that transport trash across North America. He reports back to us about the next steps.
Sexton states that he finds his work very fulfilling. CNN's Sexton said, "We have a lot to enjoy." "You know, we see these big rigs come through town, and we'll follow them. "Sexton started following truck driver almost 20 years back.
He stated, "I just fell in Love with It."
Sexton loved the story about the driver who pulled over at an abandoned gas station close to Los Angeles. "The guy was looking for someplace to put his load," Sexton recalled. "He drove down the road and saw this building. He backed up and entered the building. "There were two large roll-off containers full of stuff. The man took all the stuff out and filled up his truck with more. "Then he took out everything and began to fill up the truck. There were old tires and rags, furniture pieces, mattresses, mattresses and boxes. It was a complete mess. But it had been cleared out before he arrived. There wasn’t trash everywhere."
This begs the question: Why? It is because the location used to belong to a recycling centre. People who found out about this facility would drive to it to recycle their trash. Sexton explained, "They would bring their household goods and take them here," and they would then empty the containers.
You might see this happen hundreds of times a day. This can happen hundreds of times a week.Eventually, the truck becomes so overloaded with junk that it stops running. The owner eventually decides to dump the truck.
Trash, however, isn't the only problem facing our planet. As you may have noticed, things are getting worse.According to experts, pollution levels have risen dramatically in recent years.More than half of all water bodies on Earth are polluted.Pollution from industrial chemicals has increased by more than 30 percent since 1980.Even the air we breathe is becoming increasingly toxic.A study by the World Health Organization found that the average person inhales around 100 million particles daily.
Plastic pieces make up most of these particles. Some are washed into rivers and oceans. Others end up with fish in their stomachs.
Experts warn that the world may soon face a shortage of food if we don't make any changes. One expert said, "If we keep going as we are going, we're never going to make it," but most people don’t seem concerned.
What is the most secretive location in the entire world?
It may surprise you to hear the answer. It could even make you uncomfortable, because it challenges how reality is perceived and lived. But there is a reason that this place exists. It isn't what you would expect.
The ancient Greeks called it the City of God. It was called the City of Destruction by the Bible.
It's known in India as Kashi (Kashmir). In Russia, it's called Novgorod.
It's called The Town That Has Disappeared here in America.
A small community of 1200 people in western New York State vanished. With the exception of a road marker pointing to its former site, there were no remains: cars, bodies, houses.
This tiny community disappeared without leaving any clues as to where it went or when. Some believe it was swallowed by the earth. Others claim that a meteorite hit destroyed it. Others claim it was taken away by aliens.
Whatever happened, the residents of this once-thriving community are convinced that their town isn't gone forever. They had just moved from one town to the other.
There's even a website that tracks the disappearances and recoveries of Zugspitz.
The question is, where did this place go? Well, it's in Switzerland!
You can find Zugspitze at the border of Austria and Germany. The lake Lake Zugspitze is just beyond the mountain's summit.
I have always been fascinated by the fact that so many towns have vanished, but some remain. Why do some disappear while others survive? I set out to find out.
I wanted to learn more about mysteriously disappearing towns. What causes a town to disappear? What makes a place disappear?
It turned out that there are many theories about disappearing towns. One theory is that a city disappears after all buildings have been demolished. Another theory suggests that the town simply moves somewhere else. A third theory states that the town didn't exist at all.
Theories aside, the fact remains that dozens of towns around the globe have been swallowed up by the ground. This video looks into the history of those places and investigates their current status.
Is there a more mysterious place than the Earth itself?
Antarctica is the most mysterious continent on Earth.
This is why we find it so captivating. Because it's unlike any other place in the world.
It is very remote and isolated. It is not what you see.
This natural wonder is also home to some of the strangest wildlife species.
Let's find out how this mysterious destination became so famous.
Antarctica, The South Pole
It is not known why Antarctica was called Antarctica. Some believe it refers to "land of ice". Others think it comes from Greek mythology.
Antarktis is the name Antarktis was given to an island in ancient Greece by Zeus' twin brothers. According to some legends, one of these twins was born in winter. This is why the word "antarctic" was chosen.
Others think the name came from the Greek words anti, meaning against, and tropos meaning turn. This would mean land turned away from the sun.
Whatever the reason, Antarctica has always held a special fascination for people.
It is also the lowest, windiest continent, driest, and highest. It is too cold to support trees, plants, and animals.
Yet, this frozen wasteland is alive.
About 90 percent of all living things on Earth live here. Here are approximately 50% of all the animal and plant species in the world.
What is the secret to Antarctica's unique environment? Here, water freezes and becomes ice instead of evaporated into the air.
This causes large masses to form of ice which float high above the ground.
These glaciers are responsible for covering 80% of the continent. These glaciers are getting larger each year.
The Antarctic ice sheet has grown 60ft since 1960.
The sea level could rise to 200 feet if the melting continues. It could result in massive flooding all over the world.
This is not necessarily bad news. Some scientists suggest that global warming could actually be good for us. They claim that the melting of ice sheets could accelerate as temperatures rise. This would lead to flooding that removes tons of toxic chemicals and soil from our bodies.
However, others caution that this theory sounds a lot like a plot in a science fiction movie.
Five interesting facts about your liver.
The liver is responsible in breaking down toxins, storing vitamins and mineral, and for regulating blood pressure. It helps maintain a steady body temperature and regulates blood pressure.

American history secret societies and clubs
American History has many secret societies and clubs that are fascinating. One reason is because of the mystery surrounding them. A second reason is their impact on society.
Secret societies and clubs have been used throughout America’s history to spread ideas that would otherwise be taboo. These ideas include antisemitism or racism. These groups also promoted political ideologies such communism, socialism, and other socialist ideas.
The Ku Klux Klan is the most prominent American organization. This group was established in 1865, after the Civil War had ended. Its purpose was protect white men against African Americans.
Other organizations created during this period included the Knights Templar, Freemasons, and Odd Fellows. All of these groups shared similar beliefs and goals.
Another fascinating aspect of secret societies was that their memberships were often limited to males. However, these groups had some female members. These women included Emma Goldman (Margaret Sanger) and Susan B Anthony.
Other secret societies, aside from the ones mentioned, did not share the same ideals. The Order of Skull & Bones, for example, was established in 1832. Their goal was the creation of an elite class in the United States.
