Combat artists capture the reality of war
In WW2, combat artists captured war's realities by taking photographs of the horrors and complexities. They often worked in the field with their units to capture the war from close quarters. Orville Fisher was one such artist. He carried a pad of waterproof paper around his wrist and sketched D-Day.
They created thousands works of art to help document the war. Many of these pieces were also shown in the country as part exhibitions. These paintings chronicled battles and actions in various European and Pacific theatres. The captions often described the events in the photographs.
Artists For Victory group
Artists for Victory was a non-profit organization that gathered more than ten thousands artists to support the war effort. The group partnered with government agencies and businesses to create war-themed visual materials to promote the war effort. The mission of the group was to aid the United States in winning the war.

The group was created by artists to combat the evils of philistinism and use their artistic skills to aid the war effort. It was the first such group and promised to produce five million hours art for the war effort.
Looted Art
Many pieces of art that were taken by Nazis during World War II have been returned their rightful owners. Recent case involving Nudes in a Landscape by Pierre Auguste Renoir reveals that the painting was taken from the German family of a Jewish banker. Hugo Simon, a banker as well as an art collector, was the one to return the painting.
Many pieces of art that were stolen in WW2 have been returned. However, some pieces are still in danger. Many of these items were sent to the USSR in the course of the war. Russia is legally obligated to return these pieces. Many of these works can be found in Moscow's museums. The Polish government will submit seven more restitution requests.
Recovered objects after the war
There are many resources that can help you determine the provenance or origin of art objects. The National Gallery of Art has done extensive research on the history of art objects. Their efforts focused on the World War II period and they have unearthed numerous links between art objects and their owners. The website also offers extensive archival references and wartime histories, making it easy to discover the origin of an object's provenance.

There are three major collections of objects that were recovered after World War II. These collections contain a variety cultural and historical items that were traded or looted. The Nazis purged cultural property, especially Jewish properties. They used systematic methods of identifying the most valuable collections. Although some of the seized artifacts were eventually returned their rightful owners by the authorities, many are still unknown.
Objects that were donated to the USSR
A new CD-ROM from the National Archives of the United States documents the flow of cultural treasures between the United States and the Soviet Union. The CD-ROM contains facsimile inventories of nearly half a billion cultural objects. These cultural treasures were most likely taken by the Nazis and sent to Germany. The Soviet copies of these items don't exist in Russia’s archives.
These items were used by the USSR to aid its war effort. Over 25 million Soviet citizens lost their lives in the battle against Nazi Germany during WW2. Despite numerous defeats during the first 18 months, the Soviet Union rebuilt its army and marched to Berlin. To make the war effort possible, the United States provided enormous military and economic assistance to the Soviet Union.
FAQ
What is your most secretive community?
You might be surprised at the answer. It might even make you uncomfortable because it challenges our perception of reality and how we live. There is a reason this place exists and it's not as you might expect.
The ancient Greeks called it the City of God. It was also called the City of Destruction in the Bible.
It is also called Kashi in India (Kashmir). In Russia, it's called Novgorod.
But here in America, it goes by another name - The Town That Disappeared.
One tiny town in western New York State lost its 1,200 inhabitants without trace. A road sign pointing to the former location of the town was all that was left, except for a few bodies and cars.
This little town disappeared, leaving no clues about where it went or when. Some say the earth swallowed it up. Some claim it was destroyed by a meteorite impact. Some claim that it was destroyed by a meteorite strike. Others still believe it was stolen away by aliens.
Whatever happened, the residents of this once-thriving community are convinced that their town isn't gone forever. They had just moved to a new town.
There is even a website dedicated to tracking the disappearance of the lost city of Zugspitz.
Then, where is it? Well, it's in Switzerland!
Zugspitze is situated on the border between Germany und Austria. A huge lake, Lake Zugspitze, is located just beyond the summit.
It has always fascinated and astonished me to see how many towns have vanished but still exist. What is the difference between some towns that disappear and others that survive? I decided to investigate.
I wanted to learn more about mysteriously disappearing towns. What makes a town disappear? How can one place vanish from existence?
It turns out that there are several theories about the phenomenon of vanishing towns. One theory holds that a town disappears if all its buildings are demolished. Another theory states that the town simply moves to another location. Another theory suggests that the town has never existed.
No matter what theories you may have, there is no doubt that many towns across the globe were swallowed by the ground. This video looks into the history of those places and investigates their current status.
Have you ever wondered how much trash is produced worldwide each day?
The United Nations estimates that the average person generates more than 2.5 pounds of waste each day. This adds up to over 25 million pounds of garbage annually!
Most of this rubbish ends up in landfills or incinerators. But, what happens when those dumpsters fill up? It goes to the United States, where most of it is exported. It is then dumped in other countries, where it pollutes their ecosystems. But now, thanks to the work of one man, we know exactly where all this trash goes. Mike Sexton is his name. He owns a company called Waste Watchers. He spends his time watching trucks hauling trash around North America. He then reports back to us on what happens next.
Sexton states that he finds his work very fulfilling. CNN's Sexton said, "We have a lot to enjoy." "We see big rigs coming through town and we'll follow them. "Sexton started following truck drivers nearly 20 years ago.
He stated, "I just fell in Love with It."
He loved the story of the driver who pulled into an abandoned gas station near Los Angeles. Sexton remembered, "The man was looking for somewhere to put the load." "He drove along the road and saw this structure. So he backed up and went inside. "There were two enormous roll-off containers filled with stuff. The man took all the stuff out and filled up his truck with more. "Then, he took everything out and started filling up the truck again. There were old tires and rags, furniture pieces, mattresses, mattresses and boxes. "It was just total chaos. But it had been cleaned before he arrived. There was not a single piece of trash.
What is the explanation? It's because this area used to be a recycle center. People would drive from all over the country to recycle their trash. "They'd bring their household items and take them to this building," Sexton explained. And after they finished, they would leave the empty containers behind.
It can happen hundreds of thousands of times per week. This can happen hundreds of times a week.Eventually, the truck becomes so overloaded with junk that it stops running. The owner eventually decides to dump the truck.
Trash isn’t the only problem we face on the planet.
Many of these tiny plastic pieces end up in landfills and incinerators. Others end up in rivers, oceans or the stomachss of fish.
Experts say if nothing changes, we could soon face a global food shortage. "If we keep going like we're going, we're not going to make it," one expert warned. But even though scientists agree that the world is headed toward disaster, most people don't seem worried.
What is the most mysterious place on earth?
Antarctica is the world's most mysterious place on Earth.
Why is this place so amazing? Because it is unlike anything else on Earth.
It is difficult to access because it is remote and extremely isolated. However, there's more to this location than meets the eye.
You will also find some of the oddest wildlife species in this natural wonder.
Let's now see how this amazing destination came to be so well-known for its mystery.
Antarctica, The South Pole
No one knows exactly why Antarctica was named Antarctica. Others believe it means "land with ice". Others think it comes from Greek mythology.
Antarktis was an ancient Greek name that was given to the island where Zeus and his twin brothers, Zeus. According to legend, one of the twins was born in winter. Thus, the term antarctic.
Others believe that the name comes from the Greek words anti meaning against and tropos meaning to turn. This would mean that the land was turned away by the sun.
Whatever the reason Antarctica has always been a fascination for people.
It is also the lowest, windiest continent, driest, and highest. It is too cold to support trees, plants, and animals.
Yet, the frozen desert is alive with life.
It is home to approximately 90 percent of all life on Earth. Here are approximately 50% of all the animal and plant species in the world.
What is Antarctica? Here, water is frozen into ice rather than vaporizing into the air.
This creates large masses of ice that float above the ground.
These floating glaciers make up 80%. They are growing in size every year.
Since 1960, the Antarctic ice sheets has grown 60ft.
If the melting goes on, the sea level may rise by as much as 200 feet. This could lead worldwide flooding.
However, not all scientists believe this to be bad news. Some scientists believe that global warming can be beneficial. According to scientists, global warming could be good for us because the melting of the ice sheets will accelerate, which can lead to floods that release toxic chemicals into our soil and bodies.
However, others caution that this theory sounds a lot like a plot in a science fiction movie.

How To
Hollywood scandals that stunned the entire world
Nothing is more shocking than seeing someone famous for wrong reasons. It's even more frightening to see them fall from grace.
It's fascinating to see how industries react to their mistakes. There are many stories about celebrities who drank excessively. Some even died young because of it.
But the worst part is when those same stars go public with their problems and are shunned by everyone. We found ourselves in that situation last week.
After a long and successful career, Heath Ledger finally succumbed to his demons. He took too many prescription pills and died shortly after.
His family and close friends had difficulty accepting his death. The media took to him publically.
Heath was once considered to be one of today's most talented actors. His performances in Brokeback Mountain earned Heath two Academy Award nominations.
Heath not only acted, but also wrote and directed films including A Knight's Tale. Monster's Ball. Iron Man.
Hollywood loved Heath, however he soon grew too big for his good looks. He began using drugs and drinking heavily. He finally went to rehab, and he was clean.
Now that he was sober, he wanted to make amends. He made a documentary called "Room 237," that chronicled the making and release of The Shining. The film was originally supposed to be released in this year's theaters, but it will not make its way into the cinemas until next year.
Heath attempted to get into Hollywood every time. In fact, Heath was twice arrested on drug charges.
While we aren't saying Heath shouldn't have been allowed back in the show business, It would have been nice, however, if he had received some help before things got out of control.
We hope Heath’s story serves as a cautionary tale for others who think they might still be able to have it all.
