When Martin Van Buren was birthed, it was only six years since the colonists' declaration of independence. He was raised in Kinderhook, a village in upstate New York. In his early years, he worked in his father’s tavern which was frequented at the time by many local politicians and lawyers, including Aaron Burr. He became a lawyer at some point.
Van Buren entered politics in 1813, when he was elected to the State Senate. In 1815 Van Buren served as surrogate of Columbia County. And in 1816 he was the New York Attorney general. He constantly changed his political alliances, and he always kept his intentions and allegiances secret. Critics called him an unprincipled and devious politician.
Van Buren became Governor of New York in 1828, but resigned from that position in 1829 to become Secretary of State for President Andrew Jackson. He helped expand the Jacksonian political patronage system in the cabinet. In 1832 he became the eighth president of the United States after winning the presidential election.
During his presidency, the economy suffered from the Panic of 1837, which caused the stock market to crash and brought the nation to a standstill. In his attempt to maintain the solvency of the national Government, Van Buren fought against the creation of a new bank of the United States and advocated for an independent treasury. He also continued Jackson’s policy of relocating American Indians in western lands. The Trail of Tears was the result of this. Many Native Americans died.
After his failed attempts to win reelection in 1840 and in 1848, Van Buren retired to his Kinderhook estate, Lindenwald, to watch as the slavery issue tore the country apart during the 1850s. He remained in the Democratic Party while opposing its pro-Southern faction. Douglas and other moderate Democrats were his supporters.
Van Buren died at age 79 in 1862, after suffering from heart failure. He was buried at the Kinderhook Dutch Reformed Cemetery Albany Avenue. A ceremony honoring his birthday is held at the site every year. This is a beautiful historical cemetery that is worth visiting.

I wanted to know more about the mysterious disappearing towns. What causes a community to disappear? What makes a place disappear?
There are many theories regarding the phenomenon of towns disappearing. One theory holds that a town disappears if all its buildings are demolished. Another theory states that the town simply moves to another location. A third theory states that the town didn't exist at all.

Sexton said he enjoys his job. CNN interviewed Sexton and said that he has a lot of fun. "We often see large rigs passing through our town and we will follow them. "Sexton began following truckers almost 20 year ago.
"It's all I felt," he stated.
His favorite story involved a driver who pulled off at an abandoned gas station near Los Angeles. Sexton recalls, "The guy was searching for somewhere to put his loads." "He drove down the road and saw this building. He pulled over and went in. "There were 2 large containers that had been rolled off, and they were full of stuff. The man took all the stuff out and filled up his truck with more. He then looked around and decided to load everything. There were a bunch of old tires, rags, furniture, mattresses, boxes, bottles, cans, and whatever else. "It was just a total mess. But it was cleaned out before he came. There was not a single piece of trash.
What is the explanation? It is because the location used to belong to a recycling centre. People who found out about this facility would drive to it to recycle their trash. "They'd bring their household items and take them to this building," Sexton explained.And after they finished, they would leave the empty containers behind.
This could happen hundreds of time per week. The truck can be stopped running if it is so full of junk that it has to come back hundreds of times per week. And eventually, the owner decides to abandon the vehicle.
However, trash is not the only problem on our planet.
Many of these tiny plastic pieces end up in landfills and incinerators. Others get washed into rivers or oceans.And when they reach the ocean, they often end up in the stomachs of fish.
Experts say if nothing changes, we could soon face a global food shortage. "If we keep going like we're going, we're not going to make it," one expert warned.But even though scientists agree that the world is headed toward disaster, most people don't seem worried.
