The color of someone's skin can tell if they are healthy or not. Capillaries are tiny blood vessels visible on the skin's surface. These small vessels carry blood from the large blood vessel in the skin back towards the heart. The skin turns blue or violet when blood flow becomes blocked.

Red blood cells are missing in people with sickle-cell disease. Patients with sickle cell disease have their blood become sticky and harden, leading to severe illness.
