The Florentine artist Sandro Botticelli painted 'The Man of Sorrows' a portrait of Jesus Christ. This painting is one of the most important and rare works by the Renaissance artist. The work is thought to have been created in the late 15th- or early 16th century and has been private property since the 19th. Botticelli’s Man of Sorrows is likely to fetch more than $40million. The painting is expected to be sold by Sotheby's in January 2022. It will also be exhibited in London and Dubai.
Botticelli was an ardent Dominican, and it is obvious that his art reflects the influence of Savonarola. Botticelli's faith was strong in the 15th century. His paintings reflect that spirituality. His devotional paintings combine form and content, and include an amalgamation of Christian symbolism. His late religious paintings show the devotion of Dominican friar Girolamo Savonarola.
The painting is extremely detailed and well-constructed. Sharp contrasts are evident between rough surfaces and the effective use of color. The painting is a portrait of a thorncrowned Christ, which measures approximately bust length. The painting is surrounded with angels who are carrying the Arma Christi (Arms of Christ), his weapons against Satan. It is also reminiscent to the work of Albrecht Durer, a German Renaissance artist who is well-known for his crowns made of thorns.

Sotheby's claims that the painting was purchased by an American collector in 1963. It is believed that the painting was also part of the collection of Adelaide Kemble Sartoris (1814-1879), an English opera singer. The painting was acquired at a Sotheby's auction and is considered to be an autograph-quality work of art.
Botticelli’s Man of Sorrows painting, by Botticelli, is the second most valuable Old Master painting to be sold at auction in five years. Sotheby's in January 2021 sold the painting for $92,000,000 This sale helped to increase the value of Old Master paintings at an auction. It was also a landmark sale for Sotheby's as it represented a shift of focus at the auction house.
The Man of Sorrows painting is an ingenious composition, and is believed to have been produced in the late 1500s. Botticelli used an illustration panel to create this extraordinary Christ composition. The initial image was incomplete, but an analysis of Botticelli's painting revealed that Botticelli had intended to paint the Madonna & Child.
After Sotheby's sale of Botticelli's 'Young Man holding a Roundel' in February 2021, the Man of Sorrows will be sold in January 2022. This was after Sotheby's sold Botticelli's 'Young Man with a Roundel' in Jan 2021. It was the most valuable Old Master painting ever sold at auction. According to Sotheby's in New York, the Man of Sorrows would be part of their Masters Week Sales Series in January 2022. The painting will be shown in New York during a presale exhibition. It will also travel to London and Dubai.

The Man of Sorrows, along with the 'Young Man Holding a Rowel', helped to boost the value of Old Master paintings. Today, three Botticelli's final works are still in private ownership.
FAQ
What is the most secretive place in the world, and why?
This question might surprise you. This may make you feel uncomfortable as it challenges your perception of reality and the way we live. But there is a reason why this place exists. And it is not what you would expect.
It was called the City of God by ancient Greeks. According to the Bible, it was called the City of Destruction.
In India, it's called Kashi (Kashmir). It is called Novgorod (Russia).
It's called The Town That Has Disappeared here in America.
A small town in western New York State, with a population of 1,200, vanished without a trace. With the exception of a road marker pointing to its former site, there were no remains: cars, bodies, houses.
This tiny town vanished without any trace. Some claim the earth swallowed it. Others claim that a meteorite hit destroyed it. Some claim that it was destroyed by a meteorite strike. Others still believe it was stolen away by aliens.
Whatever happened, the residents of this once-thriving community are convinced that their town isn't gone forever. They had just moved to a new town.
You can even track the disappearance of Zugspitz on a dedicated website.
The question is, where did this place go? It's in Switzerland.
Zugspitze lies on the border between Austria and Germany. Just beyond the summit of the mountain is a huge lake called Lake Zugspitze.
It has always fascinated me that so many towns have disappeared, yet some still remain. Why do some disappear while others survive? I decided to investigate.
I was interested in learning more about these mysterious towns that are disappearing. What causes a town to disappear? How can one place become extinct?
It turns out that there are several theories about the phenomenon of vanishing towns. One theory is that a city disappears after all buildings have been demolished. Another theory suggests that the town simply moves somewhere else. The third theory is that the town was never actually there.
No matter what theories you may have, there is no doubt that many towns across the globe were swallowed by the ground. This video explores the history of these towns and examines their current state.
What is the most mysterious place on earth?
Antarctica is the world's most mysterious place on Earth.
We find this place so fascinating. Because it is unlike any other spot on Earth.
It is remote, isolated, and extremely difficult to visit. But there is more to this site than meets the eye.
You will also find some of the oddest wildlife species in this natural wonder.
Let's now see how this amazing destination came to be so well-known for its mystery.
Antarctica: The South Pole
No one knows exactly why Antarctica was named Antarctica. Some believe it means "land of ice." Others think it comes from Greek mythology.
Antarktis is the name Antarktis was given to an island in ancient Greece by Zeus' twin brothers. One of the twins was said to have been born in winter. Hence, the word antarctic.
Others believe that it is the Greek word anti, which means against, and tropos, which refers to turning. This would be land turned away form the sun.
Whatever the reason, Antarctica has always held a special fascination for people.
It is the coldest, windiest, driest and highest continent. It is too cold to support trees, plants, and animals.
Yet, the frozen desert is alive with life.
It is home to approximately 90 percent of all life on Earth. About 50% of the world's plant and animal species can be found here.
What makes Antarctica so special? Here water freezes to ice and not evaporates into the atmosphere.
This causes large masses to form of ice which float high above the ground.
These glaciers cover more than 80% of the continent. These glaciers are getting larger each year.
The Antarctic ice has grown 60 feet so far since 1960.
The sea level will rise up to 200 feet if melting continues. That could cause massive flooding around the globe.
This is not necessarily bad news. Global warming may be beneficial for some scientists. They claim that the melting of ice sheets could accelerate as temperatures rise. This would lead to flooding that removes tons of toxic chemicals and soil from our bodies.
Others cautioned that this theory sounds too science fiction.
What is the most intriguing fact about the human anatomy?
We have two eyes and two ears, two nostrils each, four limbs, four limbs and a penis. It's true, we have more 50 parts of our body, but there is one thing missing. A heart.
The heart is a pump that circulates blood throughout your body. The blood flows through the veins and arteries to carry oxygen and nutrients to the cells.
Each minute, the heart pumps approximately 5 liters. This is equivalent in daily coffee consumption to an adult who consumes approximately 2 to 3 cups.
Blood flows through the heart 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. While you are sleeping, your heart beats about 100 times per second.
Color of your skin is a good indicator of whether someone is healthy. Capillaries are tiny blood vessels visible on the skin's surface. These small vessels carry blood away from the large blood vessels in the skin back to the heart. If blood flow is blocked, skin can turn blue or purple.
People with sickle cell disease lack red blood cells. Their blood becomes sticky and hardens, causing them to become very ill.
If you cut yourself, a bandage is applied to stop the bleeding. Blood must flow in order for the wound to heal properly. Doctors place a needle in the wound and insert it through the skin. This allows blood to drain from the area.
A doctor can also insert tubes (catheters), into an artery in the vicinity of where blood clots form. This keeps the patient alive until the clot breaks up naturally.
How does the brain regulate the functions of the body?
The brain communicates with other organs to ensure their cooperation. Everything that happens within your body is controlled by the brain. It tells your stomach how to digest food and your lungs how to inhale oxygen; it also tells your arms, legs and feet to move.
Your brain consists of billions of nerve cells connected in groups called neurons. Action potentials are electrical signals that neurons send to one another. Every neuron has an outer cell membrane that surrounds its nucleus. Inside the membrane are channels that allow ions such as sodium and potassium to enter and leave the cell. Ion movement is what causes the neurons to fire.
When a neuron is activated, neurotransmitters release chemicals into the space between it and the next neuron. Neurotransmitters bind to receptors on the second neuron, opening ion channels so ions can pass in and out of the channel. The second neuron also fires.
When another neuron sends an impulse to the presynaptic neural cell, neurotransmitter is released. An impulse travels along a synapse that connects the two neurons. The transmitter binds to the receptors on the postsynaptic neural cell, which triggers the firing of that neuron.
The nervous system relies on neurotransmitters for communication. They coordinate activity between the different parts of your brain.

How To
Hollywood scandals that stunned the entire world
There's nothing more shocking than watching someone become famous for the wrong reasons. But, it's equally shocking to watch them fall from the graces.
The best thing about watching how an industry reacts when it makes mistakes is the best part. Many celebrities have used alcohol and drugs in excess. Some even died young because of it.
But, the worst part? When those stars openly discuss their issues and are ignored by everyone. That's where we found ourselves last week.
Heath Ledger lost his long and successful career. He died after succumbing to prescription drugs.
His family and friends struggled to accept his passing, and the media had a field day bashing him publicly.
Heath was once considered to be one of today's most talented actors. His performance in Brokeback Mountain earned him two Academy Awards nominations.
Heath was not only an actor, but also directed and wrote films like A Knight's Tale and Monster's Ball.
Hollywood loved Heath but he grew too large for his boots. He became addicted to drugs and drank heavily. He ended up in rehab and became clean.
After he had gotten sober, he decided to make amends. He then made "Room 237," a documentary that chronicled The Shining's making. It was supposed to hit theaters this year. However, it won't until next year.
Every time Heath tried to get back into Hollywood, something happened. In fact, Heath was twice arrested on drug charges.
While we aren't saying Heath shouldn't have been allowed back in the show business, However, it would be nice if he could get some help before things spiral out of control.
We hope Heath’s story can be an example to other people who believe they can still have it all.
