It's incredible to think about how vast space is. Many people have visited space to see the amazing beauty of it. However, there are some scary facts about space that you need to be aware of. FAQ
Ever wonder how much trash gets produced each day around the world?
The United Nations estimates that the average person generates more than 2.5 pounds of waste each day. This adds up to over 25 million pounds of garbage annually!
Most of the trash ends up at incinerators and landfills. But, what happens to those dumpsters? All that trash ends up being shipped out of country. It is then shipped out and dumped in other countries. This pollutes the ecosystems. But now we know, thanks to one man. Mike Sexton is his nickname. He runs Waste Watchers, a company that monitors the movements of trucks carrying trash all across North America. He then reports back about what happens next.
Sexton claims he is very satisfied with his job. CNN interviewed Sexton and said that he has a lot of fun. "You know, we see these big rigs come through town, and we'll follow them. "Sexton began following truck drivers almost 20 years ago.
He said, "I fell in love with it."
His favorite story involved a driver who pulled off at an abandoned gas station near Los Angeles. Sexton described, "The guy was looking somewhere to put his load." "He saw the building as he drove down the road. He stopped and pulled up, then he went inside. "There were two enormous roll-off containers filled with stuff. The man removed everything from the truck and started to load it again. "Then he took out everything and began to fill up the truck. There were lots of old tires, rags furniture, mattresses, mattresses, cans, cans, and other items. It was a complete mess. But it was cleaned out before he came. There wasn't any trash."
This is the reason why it happened. Well, the answer is that this particular location used to be part of a recycling center.People who learned about this facility would drive here to recycle their trash. Sexton explained that they would bring household items and take them to the building. Then, after they were done, they would empty the containers.
You might see this happen hundreds of times a day. The truck can be stopped running if it is so full of junk that it has to come back hundreds of times per week. The owner finally decides to stop using the truck.
But, this isn't the only problem that our planet is facing.
Many of these tiny plastic pieces end up in landfills and incinerators. Some of these plastics end up in rivers or oceans.
Experts warn that the world may soon face a shortage of food if we don't make any changes. One expert said, "If we keep going as we are going, we're never going to make it," but most people don’t seem concerned.
Which is the most mysterious spot on Earth?
Antarctica is home to the most mysterious and remote place on Earth.
This is why we find it so captivating. It is unlike any other place on Earth.
It is very remote and isolated. But there is more to this site than meets the eye.
Some of the most bizarre wildlife species can also be found in this natural wonder.
Let's see how this incredible destination became famous for its mystery.
Antarctica: The South Pole
No one knows exactly why Antarctica was named Antarctica. Some say it means "land on ice." Others think it comes from Greek mythology.
In ancient Greece, Antarktis was the name given to the island where Zeus' twin brothers were born. One of the twins was said to have been born in winter. Hence, the word antarctic.
Others believe that the name is a combination of the Greek words anti and tropos which mean against and turn. This would mean land turned away from the sun.
Whatever the reason, Antarctica has always held a special fascination for people.
It is the highest, coldest, windiest, dryest, and most populated continent. It is too cold for trees, plants and animals.
And yet, this frozen wasteland is teeming with life.
Here, 90 percent live of all species of living things. About 50% of the world's plant and animal species can be found here.
What is it that makes Antarctica so unique? Here, water is frozen into ice rather than vaporizing into the air.
This causes large amounts of ice to float above ground.
These floating glaciers make up 80%. They are growing in size every year.
The Antarctic ice has grown 60 feet so far since 1960.
If the melting continues, sea level could rise up to 200ft. This could lead to widespread flooding.
However, not all scientists believe this to be bad news. Some scientists think global warming might be beneficial. They believe that global warming will lead to melting ice sheets faster and floods that can flush toxic chemicals out of our soils and bodies.
However, others caution that this theory sounds a lot like a plot in a science fiction movie.
What is the most secretive place in the world, and why?
This question might surprise you. This may make you feel uncomfortable as it challenges your perception of reality and the way we live. There is a reason this place exists and it's not as you might expect.
It was known as the City of God to the ancient Greeks. It was also called the City of Destruction in the Bible.
It's known in India as Kashi (Kashmir). It is called Novgorod (Russia).
However, in America it is called The Town that Disappeared.
One small New York State town with just 1,200 people vanished. No bodies, cars, houses, nothing was left behind except a road sign pointing to its former location.
The little village vanished, with no trace of its existence. Some believe the earth swallowed them up. Some claim it was destroyed by a meteorite impact. Still, others say aliens took it away.
The residents of this once prosperous community believe that whatever happened, their town is not gone forever. They just moved to another city.
There is even a website dedicated to tracking the disappearance of the lost city of Zugspitz.
So where is this town? It's actually in Switzerland!
You can find Zugspitze at the border of Austria and Germany. Lake Zugspitze lies just above the summit of the mountain.
It has always fascinated my that so many towns have disappeared but others still exist. Why is it that some disappear while others live on? I set out to find out.
I wanted to know more about the mysterious disappearing towns. What causes a community to disappear? How can one place become extinct?
It turns out that there are several theories about the phenomenon of vanishing towns. One theory states that a town vanishes when all its buildings are destroyed. Another theory holds that the town simply relocates to another location. Another theory suggests that the town has never existed.
The fact is that hundreds of towns all over the world have been swept away by the ground, despite theories to the contrary. This video examines the past and present status of these areas.
Is there an Hollywood blacklist?
There is a Hollywood blacklist.
The list isn’t available for public viewing. According to our knowledge, the names of these people aren't known. But, here's why it matters.
The reason behind the secrecy was that blacklisted directors and actors wouldn't be able find work. The studios would be out of business as they lose money. It would mean they would reduce their expenditure on movies. That would reduce the opportunities for blacklisted filmmakers. This could lead to them going bankrupt.
This could eventually lead to more victims.
When someone tries making an Oscar winning movie they might be asked for a contract. This means that they can't publicly criticize their employer. Any director or producer who would like to be nominated for an award is subject to the same rules.
That's why you hear stories about how producers pressure directors to remove scenes from their films. Or directors threaten to walk out of projects that don’t match their vision.
This is why there is a Hollywood blacklist. Negative comments about your employer will most likely lead to you being unemployed. That's bad for everyone.
The problem is that many people have been falsely accused. And they've had to fight to clear their name.
We need to stop this kind of thing before it starts happening again. Everybody should be able to freely express themselves.
We must get rid of the Hollywood blacklist.
