The agency's mission has evolved over the years and it now protects presidents, vice presidents, and other elected officials. The Secret Service also investigates financial crimes and mail theft among other crimes.
In the early 1800s, America's monetary system was in disarray. It was possible for half to a third of the country's currency to be faked due to this. It was also believed that foreign powers were planning to assassinate Presidents and other national leaders. These perceived threats prompted Congress to create the Secret Service. William Wood was first to lead the service. Wood closed approximately 200 counterfeiting factories in his first year.

The United States Secret Service has responsibility for protecting Washington, D.C.'s White House Complex, as well foreign embassies throughout the Washington region. The service also protects visiting heads of foreign governments. The Secret Service also investigates high-tech computer-based crimes like counterfeiting and mail theft.
President Abraham Lincoln founded the United States Secret Service in 1865. The Department of Homeland Security now houses this agency. FAQ
What is the most mysterious location on Earth?
Antarctica is one of the most mysterious places on Earth.
What is it that makes this place so interesting? Because it is unlike anything else on Earth.
It is isolated, remote, and very hard to visit. There is much more to this place than meets the eyes.
These wild animals are also found in this natural wonder.
Let's find out how this mysterious destination became so famous.
Antarctica: The South Pole
Antarctica is named for no one. Some believe it refers to "land of ice". Others believe it comes out of Greek mythology.
Antarktis was an ancient Greek name that was given to the island where Zeus and his twin brothers, Zeus. According to legend, one of the twins was born in winter. The term antarctic is derived from this.
Others believe the name was derived from the Greek words tropos, which means turn, and anti, meaning against. This would mean that the land was turned away by the sun.
Whatever the reason Antarctica has always been a fascination for people.
It is the coldest, windiest, driest and highest continent. There are no trees, plants, or animals here because it is too cold.
This frozen wasteland is still alive.
It houses approximately 90% of all Earth's living organisms. Here are approximately 50% of all the animal and plant species in the world.
What is the secret to Antarctica's unique environment? Here, water freezes in ice rather that vaporizing into the atmosphere.
This causes large amounts of ice to float above ground.
These floating glaciers cover over 80%. These glaciers are getting larger each year.
The Antarctic ice has grown 60 feet so far since 1960.
If the melting goes on, the sea level may rise by as much as 200 feet. This could lead to widespread flooding.
However, not all scientists believe this to be bad news. Some scientists suggest that global warming could actually be good for us. They suggest that rising temperatures could cause ice sheet melt faster, leading to floods that flush out toxic chemicals from soil and bodies.
Others cautioned that this theory sounds too science fiction.
Is there any Hollywood blacklist for actors?
There is an Hollywood blacklist.
But the list isn't made public. We don't know the names. It matters because of this.
The secretive nature of the information is due to the fact that actors and directors on blacklist won't be in a position to find work. This would result in studios losing money as the actors and directors would have to go out on their own. That would result in a reduction in spending on movies. That would reduce the opportunities for blacklisted filmmakers. They would then go bankrupt.
Which could ultimately result in more victims.
A contract may be required to agree to not speak against employers if someone attempts to make an Oscar winning movie. Producers and directors who want to be nominated are subject to the same restrictions.
It's no surprise that directors are often forced to take out scenes in their films by producers. Or how directors threaten to walk away from projects that don't fit their vision.
This is why Hollywood keeps a blacklist. If you are negative about your employer, you'll most likely go unemployed. It's not good for anyone.
Many people have been wrongly accused. They've had the toil to clear their name.
We must stop this from happening again. We need to ensure everyone has the right of expression.
So we need to take down the Hollywood blacklist.
Have you ever wondered how much trash is produced worldwide each day?
According to the United Nations there are more than 25 billion tons of garbage produced each year.
Many of this trash ends in landfill dumps, or incinerators. But what happens if those dumpsters are full? Where does all that rubbish go?Well, most of it gets shipped out of the country. The trash is then sent out of the country and dumped in countries where it pollutes ecosystems. But, one man has now discovered exactly where this rubbish goes. Mike Sexton is his nickname. He owns a company called Waste Watchers. He spends his time watching trucks hauling trash around North America. He reports back to us about the next steps.
Sexton stated that he finds the job very satisfying. CNN spoke with Sexton that they have a lot fun. "We'll be following these big rigs through town. "Sexton began to follow truck drivers around 20 years ago.
He said, "I fell in love with it."
His favorite story is about a driver that pulled into an abandoned gas station just outside Los Angeles. "The guy was looking for someplace to put his load," Sexton recalled. "He saw the building as he drove down the road. So he backed up and went inside. "There was a pair of large, full-sized roll-off boxes. The guy took everything out and started filling up the truck again. "Then he took out everything and began to fill up the truck. There were many old tires, furniture, rags and mattresses. "It was a complete mess. But it had been cleared out before he arrived. There wasn’t trash everywhere."
This begs the question: Why? It is because the location used to belong to a recycling centre. People who found out about this facility would drive to it to recycle their trash. "They'd bring their household items and take them to this building," Sexton explained. And after they finished, they would leave the empty containers behind.
You might see this happen hundreds of times a day. This could happen hundreds times per week. Finally, the truck stops running completely due to its excessive junk. The truck eventually stops running and the owner decides that it is time to get rid of the vehicle.
Trash, however, isn't the only problem facing our planet. As you may have noticed, things are getting worse.According to experts, pollution levels have risen dramatically in recent years.More than half of all water bodies on Earth are polluted.Pollution from industrial chemicals has increased by more than 30 percent since 1980.Even the air we breathe is becoming increasingly toxic.A study by the World Health Organization found that the average person inhales around 100 million particles daily.
Plastic pieces make up most of these particles. Others end up in rivers, oceans or the stomachss of fish.
Experts warn us that we may soon face an international food shortage if things don't change. "If we keep going like we're going, we're not going to make it," one expert warned. But even though scientists agree that the world is headed toward disaster, most people don't seem worried.
How does your brain control the functions within your body?
The brain sends messages to other organs and muscles to ensure they work together. Everything in your body is controlled and managed by your brain. It tells the stomach to digest food, and the lungs to breath air. It also tells your legs and arms to move.
Your brain is made of billions, or neurons, of nerve cells. Action potentials, which are electrical signals sent by neurons to each other via axons, allow them to communicate with one another. Every neuron has an outer cell membrane that surrounds its nucleus. Inside the membrane are channels that allow ions such as sodium and potassium to enter and leave the cell. Ion movement creates the electric charge that causes the neuron to fire.
Neurotransmitters, which are chemicals that release neurotransmitters when a neuron fires up, can be found in the space between the neurons and the next one. Neurotransmitters bind with receptors on the second nerve cell, opening ion channel channels to allow ions in and out. In turn, the second neuron also fires.
Neurotransmitter production occurs when a neuron in the presynaptic receives an impulsive signal from another. The impulse travels along an synapse between the neurons. The transmitter binds with the receptors of the postsynaptic nerve, activating the firing of the postsynaptic neurons.
The nervous system relies on neurotransmitters for communication. They coordinate activity between the different parts of your brain.
