FAQ

Which is the most secretive city in the world?

It may surprise you to hear the answer. It may even make it uncomfortable, as it challenges our perceptions of reality and our lives. But there is a reason why this place exists. And it is not what you would expect.

It was also called the City of God in ancient Greek. It was also known as the City of Destruction according to the Bible.

It is called Kashi (Kashmir in India). It's known in Russia as Novgorod.

However, in America it is called The Town that Disappeared.

A small town in western New York State, with a population of 1,200, vanished without a trace. There were no bodies, cars or houses left behind, but a road sign that pointed to the former location was all that was left.

This little community vanished and no trace remains to indicate where or when it disappeared. Some say it was swallowed up by the Earth. Others claim that a meteorite hit destroyed it. Still, others say aliens took it away.

The residents of this once prosperous community believe that whatever happened, their town is not gone forever. They had just moved to a new town.

Even a website exists to help track down the disappearances of the lost city Zugspitz.

The question is, where did this place go? It's in Switzerland.

The border of Austria and Germany is at Zugspitze. The lake Lake Zugspitze is just beyond the mountain's summit.

It's always fascinated me how so many towns disappear, yet others remain. Why does some vanish while others remain? I decided that I would investigate.

I wanted to learn more about mysteriously disappearing towns. What causes a town to disappear? How does one place go extinct?

It turns out that there are several theories about the phenomenon of vanishing towns. One theory suggests that a community disappears when all of its buildings are removed. Another theory is that the town moves to another place. The third theory is that the town was never actually there.

Theories aside, the fact remains that dozens of towns around the globe have been swallowed up by the ground. This video looks into the history of those places and investigates their current status.

Why do actors end up on the blacklist?

An actor is more likely to get rejected than a writer. If you're an actor, you'll probably get rejected a lot. However, it doesn't really matter as you will eventually meet someone who is truly your love.

Actors can often make a living from acting because they are very talented. Actors don't really care about making money. Actors love acting and storytelling. You'll be an actor if you love acting.

You might even go to auditions where you're told that you're too old, too young, or not right for the role. You may also be rejected from a movie audition. It happens all the time.

But once you've been cast, you may also face criticism. People will tell you that you look terrible or shouldn't be wearing makeup. If you're lucky, you won't even hear negative comments.

Sometimes, your performance as a fictional character can be ridiculed. You might play a gay man and everyone assumes that you are straight. You might play a tough woman, but she is very emotional.

Sometimes they might ask you to change how you speak. Sometimes they ask you to sound like either a boy or a girl. They will usually ask you to sound better.

Negative criticisms are best ignored. Actors feel like they've failed when told they did wrong. But they're not guilty of anything.

They just weren't born with the talent that made them famous. They may not fit the bill sometimes, no mater how hard they try.

Blacklisting an actor could be for many reasons. Some people don't like actors. Some people think actors are lazy. Some actors may be cheaters.

Whatever your reason, it doesn't matter. You won't get blacklisted for trying. There are many jobs out there and you'll be able to find them.

If you persevere, you will eventually succeed.

How does the brain control the functions in your body?

To ensure that other organs and muscle functions work together, the brain sends messages. Everything that happens within your body is controlled by the brain. It tells your stomach how to digest food and your lungs how to inhale oxygen; it also tells your arms, legs and feet to move.

Your brain is made of billions, or neurons, of nerve cells. Action potentials are electrical signals that neurons send to one another. Every neuron has an outer cell membrane that surrounds its nucleus. There are channels within the membrane that allow ions such a sodium or potassium to enter and exit the cell. Ion movement is what causes the neurons to fire.

When a neuron is activated, neurotransmitters release chemicals into the space between it and the next neuron. Neurotransmitters attach to the receptors of the second neuron and open ions channels for ions to pass in and out. This causes the second neuron to fire too.

Neurotransmitter release occurs when the presynaptic neuron receives an impulse from another neuron. The impulse travels along the synapse connecting the two neurons. The transmitter binds with the receptors of the postsynaptic nerve, activating the firing of the postsynaptic neurons.

The nervous system relies on neurotransmitters for communication. They coordinate activity between the different parts of your brain.
