There is one podcast that stands out among the many on the National Public Radio's (NPR) docket. It is the name a podcast that covers many topics, including biology, psychology and medicine. But it does so in a very unconventional way. The main goal of this program is to provide the public with a glimpse into the mind of an exemplary subject matter expert.
Shankar Vedantam (a well-known scientist/entrepreneur) produced the program. It is now available on hundreds of public radio stations across the nation. Vedantam is an ex-reporter at The Washington Post. Recently, Vedantam left the newsroom in order to start his own independent production firm. His new job gives him the chance to explore topics that are otherwise out of reach for freelancers.
While the show was produced on a limited budget, it made no compromises in science and is highly recommended for those who are serious about science. It is no wonder that the show has earned a spot on NPR's Top 25 list of most popular podcasts. With nearly three million downloads to its credit, it is hard to believe that Hidden Brain did not become a weekly staple of NPR's schedule. After a three year hiatus, it has resurfaced as a regular program. The show's return is expected to be very welcome. Finding new material will be the biggest challenge of The Hidden Brain's podcast. The Hidden Brain listeners are fortunate that Vedantam can do it all. The show's content, however, is just as varied as its subject matter.
Vedantam is not only a podcast host, but he has also been widely recognized as a science fanatic. He is the author of two books on neuroscience and has published research papers. Vedantam also founded an independent production company. As the title suggests, Vedantam is a true believer in science. Perhaps the show's greatest achievement was in setting a standard for quality in radio's murky waters. It is only possible that the best days of the show are yet to come.

While the show's best days may have passed, like many NPR programs you can bet Shankar Vedantam wants to continue his work in other areas. I hope that this podcast will remain the brainchild an educated journalist. You might want to grab a few listeners next time you are stuck at work and enjoy a cocktail with them. Hopefully, you'll find the hidden brain of yours and learn something in the process. Until next time, happy podcasting! The best of luck. This program's success rests in a simple idea. Make the most of your resources. We all need a little help from time to time. Although it may have been a long time coming for the hidden mind, it is certain that the show will be a success thanks to its newest occupants.
FAQ
Did you know that there are approximately 1.6 billion metric tons of trash produced every day in the world?
The United Nations estimates that the average person generates more than 2.5 pounds of waste each day. This adds up to over 25 million pounds of garbage annually!
The majority of this garbage ends up in incinerators or landfills. But what happens when the dumpsters become full? It goes to the United States, where most of it is exported. The trash is then sent out of the country and dumped in countries where it pollutes ecosystems. But, one man has now discovered exactly where this rubbish goes. His name is Mike Sexton. He owns a company called Waste Watchers. He spends his time watching trucks hauling trash around North America. He then reports back about what happens next.
Sexton said he enjoys his job. CNN spoke with Sexton that they have a lot fun. "We often see large rigs passing through our town and we will follow them. "Sexton began to follow truck drivers around 20 years ago.
He stated that he fell in love with the product.
Sexton's favorite story was about a driver who stopped at an abandoned gas station in Los Angeles. Sexton recalls, "The guy was searching for somewhere to put his loads." "He drove along the road and saw this structure. He backed up and entered the building. "There were two huge roll-off containers there filled with stuff. The man removed everything from the truck and started to load it again. "Then, he took everything out and started filling up the truck again. There were many old tires, furniture, rags and mattresses. "It was just a total mess. But it had been cleaned before he arrived. There was not a single piece of trash.
This is the reason why it happened. Well, the answer is that this particular location used to be part of a recycling center.People who learned about this facility would drive here to recycle their trash. Sexton explained, "They would bring their household goods and take them here," and they would then empty the containers.
Now, because of the way the law works, once a container reaches its destination, it cannot be opened. So no matter how often someone takes something out of it, the thing will never be emptied.Every time the truck comes by, it has to start over again. This could happen hundreds times per week. Finally, the truck stops running completely due to its excessive junk. The owner eventually abandons the vehicle.
Trash, however, isn't the only problem facing our planet. As you may have noticed, things are getting worse.According to experts, pollution levels have risen dramatically in recent years.More than half of all water bodies on Earth are polluted.Pollution from industrial chemicals has increased by more than 30 percent since 1980.Even the air we breathe is becoming increasingly toxic.A study by the World Health Organization found that the average person inhales around 100 million particles daily.
Most of these particles are made up of tiny pieces of plastic. Some of these plastics end up in landfills or incinerators. Others end up in rivers, oceans or the stomachss of fish.
Experts warn that the world may soon face a shortage of food if we don't make any changes. Experts warn that if we continue to go the same way, we won't make it. However, scientists and most people aren't worried.
What are the darkest secrets of Hollywood?
Hollywood is full of secret societies. Some secret societies are cultlike groups that have strict rules and rituals. Other clubs are for people who share common interests.
But there are also more nefarious organizations that control much of the industry. These include companies like the MPAA ("Motion Picture Association of America"), which determines film ratings. The RIAA ("Recording Industry Association of America") sets music licensing fees.
Numerous unions or guilds also represent producers, writers, actors, etc. The majority of major television networks and movie studios are owned by large corporations.
It doesn't matter how secretive a group might seem, someone somewhere knows what they are doing. But that doesn't mean we should fear them.
Instead, embrace them. Because they offer us information that can help us make better decision.
They tell us what movies will likely succeed, what songs will be popular, and what books will best sell.
They help us make decisions about what we will buy, watch, listen to, or read.
Because we can trust them, we can ignore their advice when it conflicts with our tastes.
Because we have chosen to ignore their power, they are even more powerful. They are the ultimate judges of taste.
You are free to ignore their messages if that bothers you.
Let's now look at some lesser-known, but still very real Hollywood secret organizations.
And you'll understand why they're so crucial.
What is one of the most amazing facts about the human body
Two eyes, two ears and two nostrils are part of our bodies. We also have four limbs: a mouth, nose, penis, and four limbs. Yes, more than 50 parts to our bodies. But one thing is missing. The heart.
The heart is a pump that circulates blood throughout your body. The blood travels through the veins and arteries, transporting oxygen and nutrients to cells. It also removes carbon dioxide.
Each minute, the heart pumps 5 liters of blood. This is equivalent to an adult consuming 2-3 cups of coffee per day.
Blood flows throughout the heart 24 hours per day, 365 Days a Year. When you're asleep, your heart beats approximately 100 times per hour.
Color of your skin is a good indicator of whether someone is healthy. If you examine the skin closely, you will see tiny blood vessels called capillaries. These small vessels carry blood away from the large blood vessels in the skin back to the heart. If blood flow is blocked, skin can turn blue or purple.
People with sickle cell disease lack red blood cells. Their blood becomes very sticky and hardened, leading to serious illness.
To stop bleeding from a cut, you can apply a bandage to the wound. For wounds to heal properly, blood must flow. Doctors place a needle in the wound and insert it through the skin. This allows the blood from the injured area to drain.
Doctors may also insert catheters (catheters), in an artery to treat a blood clot. This keeps patients alive until the clot has broken up naturally.
What is the most secretive location in the entire world?
The answer may shock you. It may even make it uncomfortable, as it challenges our perceptions of reality and our lives. However, there's a reason for this place to exist. It's not what we would expect.
It was also called the City of God in ancient Greek. It was also called the City of Destruction in the Bible.
It is called Kashi (Kashmir in India). It's also known as Novgorod in Russia.
It is known as The Town That Disappeared in America.
A small town in western New York State, with a population of 1,200, vanished without a trace. A road sign pointing to the former location of the town was all that was left, except for a few bodies and cars.
This tiny community disappeared without leaving any clues as to where it went or when. Some believe the earth swallowed them up. Others claim that a meteorite hit destroyed it. Others claim it was taken away by aliens.
The people of this once-thriving community, however, are positive that the town won't disappear forever. They just moved to another city.
There's even a website that tracks the disappearances and recoveries of Zugspitz.
You might be wondering where this town went. It's in Switzerland, actually!
Zugspitze lies on the border between Austria and Germany. Lake Zugspitze lies just above the summit of the mountain.
It has always fascinated and astonished me to see how many towns have vanished but still exist. Is it possible that some towns disappear and others are preserved? I decided that I would investigate.
I was interested in learning more about these mysterious towns that are disappearing. What causes a town to disappear? How does one place go extinct?
It turns out that there are several theories about the phenomenon of vanishing towns. One theory holds that a town disappears if all its buildings are demolished. Another theory suggests that the town simply moves somewhere else. Another theory suggests that the town has never existed.
Although theories may be a bit speculative, it is a fact that numerous towns have been destroyed by the elements. This video examines both the history and current status.
