He runs a company called Waste Watchers.He spends his days watching the movements of trucks transporting trash across North America. He then reports back to us on what happens next.
Sexton said he enjoys his job. "We've got a lot of fun," he told CNN. "We see these big trucks coming through town, so we'll keep following them. "Sexton started following truck driver almost 20 years back.
He stated that he fell in love with the product.
His favorite story is about a driver that pulled into an abandoned gas station just outside Los Angeles. Sexton remembered, "The man was looking for somewhere to put the load." "He drove along the road and saw this structure. So he pulled over and went inside. "There was a pair of large, full-sized roll-off boxes. He took out everything and began to fill up the truck. "Then, he took everything out and started filling up the truck again. There were tires, rags. furniture, mattresses. boxes, bottles, cans. It was a complete mess. But it had been cleaned before he arrived. There wasn't any trash anywhere."
This is the reason why it happened. This particular spot used to be a recycling center. People would drive there to recycle their trash. Sexton explained that they would bring household items and take them to the building. Then, after they were done, they would empty the containers.
Now, because of the way the law works, once a container reaches its destination, it cannot be opened.So no matter how often someone takes something out of it, the thing will never be emptied.Every time the truck comes by, it has to start over again. It can happen hundreds of time per week. Eventually, the truck is so full of junk it stops running. The owner eventually decides to dump the truck.
Trash, however, isn't the only problem facing our planet.As you may have noticed, things are getting worse.According to experts, pollution levels have risen dramatically in recent years.More than half of all water bodies on Earth are polluted.Pollution from industrial chemicals has increased by more than 30 percent since 1980.Even the air we breathe is becoming increasingly toxic.A study by the World Health Organization found that the average person inhales around 100 million particles daily.
Plastic pieces make up most of these particles. Some are washed into rivers and oceans. Others end up with fish in their stomachs.
Experts say if nothing changes, we could soon face a global food shortage. Experts warn that if we continue to go the same way, we won't make it. However, scientists and most people aren't worried.
