FAQ

Ever wonder how much trash gets produced each day around the world?

According to the United Nations, the average person produces over 2.5 pounds of daily waste. That adds up to over 25 billion pounds of garbage per year!

Many of this trash ends in landfill dumps, or incinerators. But what happens if those dumpsters are full? The majority of this rubbish is sent out of the country. The rest is dumped abroad, where it pollutes other ecosystems. Now, we know the exact location of all this garbage. Mike Sexton is his nickname. He owns a company called Waste Watchers. He spends his time watching trucks hauling trash around North America. He then reports back to us on what happens next.

Sexton said he enjoys his job. CNN interviewed Sexton and said that he has a lot of fun. "You know, we see these big rigs come through town, and we'll follow them. "Sexton began following truckers almost 20 year ago.

"I just fell in love with it," he said.

Sexton's favorite story was about a driver who stopped at an abandoned gas station in Los Angeles. Sexton remembered, "The man was looking for somewhere to put the load." "He drove along the road and saw this structure. He backed up and entered the building. "There were two large roll-off containers full of stuff. The man removed everything from the truck and started to load it again. "Then, he took everything out and started filling up the truck again. There were tires, rags. furniture, mattresses. boxes, bottles, cans. "It was a complete mess. But it had been cleared out before he arrived. There wasn't any trash."

Why did this happen? It's because this area used to be a recycle center. People would drive from all over the country to recycle their trash. Sexton explained that they would bring household items and take them to the building. Then, after they were done, they would empty the containers.

This could happen hundreds of time per week. It can happen hundreds of time per week. Eventually, the truck is so full of junk it stops running. The owner eventually abandons the vehicle.

Trash, however, isn't the only problem facing our planet. As you may have noticed, things are getting worse.According to experts, pollution levels have risen dramatically in recent years.More than half of all water bodies on Earth are polluted.Pollution from industrial chemicals has increased by more than 30 percent since 1980.Even the air we breathe is becoming increasingly toxic.A study by the World Health Organization found that the average person inhales around 100 million particles daily.

Most of these particles are made up of tiny pieces of plastic. Some of these plastics end up in landfills or incinerators. Others end up in rivers, oceans or the stomachss of fish.

Experts say if nothing changes, we could soon face a global food shortage. "If we keep going like we're going, we're not going to make it," one expert warned. But even though scientists agree that the world is headed toward disaster, most people don't seem worried.

Which is the most secretive city in the world?

The answer may shock you. This may make you feel uncomfortable as it challenges your perception of reality and the way we live. There is a reason this place exists and it's not as you might expect.

The City of God was its name by the ancient Greeks. It was called the City of Destruction by the Bible.

It's known in India as Kashi (Kashmir). It's known in Russia as Novgorod.

However, in America it is called The Town that Disappeared.

One small New York State town with just 1,200 people vanished. There were no bodies, cars or houses left behind, but a road sign that pointed to the former location was all that was left.

The little village vanished, with no trace of its existence. Some claim the earth swallowed it. Others believe it was destroyed by a meteorite. Still, others say aliens took it away.

Whatever happened, the residents of this once-thriving community are convinced that their town isn't gone forever. They had just relocated to another town.

Even a website exists to help track down the disappearances of the lost city Zugspitz.

So where is this town? Well, it's in Switzerland!

You can find Zugspitze at the border of Austria and Germany. A huge lake, Lake Zugspitze, is located just beyond the summit.

It has always fascinated my that so many towns have disappeared but others still exist. Why do some disappear while others survive? I decided to investigate.

I was curious about the disappearing towns. What causes a town to disappear? How can one place become extinct?

There are many theories regarding the phenomenon of towns disappearing. One theory says that a town disappears when all the buildings are demolished. Another theory suggests that the town simply moves somewhere else. A third theory claims that the town never existed at all.

Theories aside, the fact remains that dozens of towns around the globe have been swallowed up by the ground. This video looks into the history of those places and investigates their current status.

Is there a more mysterious place than the Earth itself?

Antarctica is considered the most mysterious area on Earth.

Why do we find this place so intriguing? Because it is unlike anything else on Earth.

It is difficult to access because it is remote and extremely isolated. However, there's more to this location than meets the eye.

You'll also find the strangest species of wildlife in this natural wonder.

So let's explore how this remarkable destination became famous for its mystery.

Antarctica: The South Pole

It is not known why Antarctica was called Antarctica. Some say it means "land on ice." Others believe it comes out of Greek mythology.

Antarktis, the Greek name for the island on which Zeus' twin brothers were conceived, was used in ancient Greece. According to one source, one of the twins was conceived in winter. Therefore, the name antarctic.

Others think the name came from the Greek words anti, meaning against, and tropos meaning turn. This would translate to land that is turned away from the sun.

No matter the reason, Antarctica is a place that has always fascinated people.

It is the continent with the lowest, windiest and highest temperatures. It is too cold to support trees, plants, and animals.

Yet, this frozen wasteland is alive.

It is home to approximately 90 percent of all life on Earth. You can find approximately half the world's species of animal and plant plants here.

And what makes Antarctica such a unique environment? Here, water freezes in ice rather that vaporizing into the atmosphere.

This creates large masses of ice that float above the ground.

These glaciers cover more than 80% of the continent. They are growing in size every year.

The Antarctic ice has grown 60 feet so far since 1960.

If the melting continues, sea level could rise up to 200ft. That could cause massive flooding around the globe.

This does not mean that everyone is wrong. Global warming may be beneficial for some scientists. They believe that global warming will lead to melting ice sheets faster and floods that can flush toxic chemicals out of our soils and bodies.

However, others caution that this theory sounds a lot like a plot in a science fiction movie.
