FAQ

How does the brain control the functions of your body?

The brain sends messages to other organs and muscles to ensure they work together. Your brain controls all that happens in your body. It tells you your stomach to digest food; your lungs to inhale air; and it tells you your arms and legs how to move.

Your brain consists of billions of nerve cells connected in groups called neurons. Action potentials on Axons are an electrical signal that neurons send to each other. Every neuron has a cell wall around its nucleus. There are channels within the membrane that allow ions such a sodium or potassium to enter and exit the cell. The neuron is lit by an electric charge created by the movement of ions.

When a neuron fires, chemicals called neurotransmitters are released into the space between the neuron and the next neuron. Neurotransmitters bind with receptors on the second nerve cell, opening ion channel channels to allow ions in and out. In turn, the second neuron also fires.

When a presynaptic nerve receives an impulse, neurotransmitter release takes place. An impulse travels along a synapse that connects the two neurons. The transmitter binds to receptors on the postsynaptic neuron, triggering the firing of the postsynaptic neuron.

The nervous system relies on neurotransmitters for communication. They are also responsible for coordinating activity between various parts of the brain.

Have you ever wondered how much trash is produced worldwide each day?

According to the United Nations there are more than 25 billion tons of garbage produced each year.

Most of this rubbish ends up in landfills or incinerators. But, what happens when those dumpsters fill up? Most of that trash is shipped out of the country. The trash is then sent out of the country and dumped in countries where it pollutes ecosystems. But, one man has now discovered exactly where this rubbish goes. Mike Sexton is his nickname. He runs a company called Waste Watchers. He spends his days watching the movements of trucks transporting trash across North America. He then gives us a report on what happens next.

Sexton said he enjoys his job. CNN spoke with Sexton that they have a lot fun. "We often see large rigs passing through our town and we will follow them. "Sexton began to follow truck drivers around 20 years ago.

"It's all I felt," he stated.

His favorite story involved a driver who pulled off at an abandoned gas station near Los Angeles. Sexton recalls, "The guy was searching for somewhere to put his loads." "He drove down the road to see this building. He backed up and entered the building. "There were 2 large containers that had been rolled off, and they were full of stuff. The man took all the stuff out and filled up his truck with more. "The man looked around the area and decided to unload all of it. There were tires, rags. furniture, mattresses. boxes, bottles, cans. "It was just total chaos. But it had been cleaned out before he came along. There was not a single piece of trash.

This is the reason why it happened. The answer is that this location was once part of a recycling facility. People who knew about it would drive to this location to recycle their garbage. "They'd bring their household items and take them to this building," Sexton explained. And after they finished, they would leave the empty containers behind.

This can happen hundreds of times a week. The truck can be stopped running if it is so full of junk that it has to come back hundreds of times per week. And eventually, the owner decides to abandon the vehicle.

Trash isn’t the only problem we face on the planet.

Many of these tiny plastic pieces end up in landfills and incinerators. Others end up in rivers, oceans or the stomachss of fish.

Experts warn of a possible global food crisis if nothing is done. Experts warn that "if we keep going the way we are, we're not going make it," although scientists agree that the world is heading toward disaster. Most people, however, don't seem to be concerned.

What is the most secretive location in the entire world?

The answer may shock you. You might be uncomfortable with the truth of it, as it may challenge your perception of reality. But there is a reason why this place exists. And it is not what you would expect.

The City of God was its name by the ancient Greeks. According to the Bible, it was called the City of Destruction.

It's known in India as Kashi (Kashmir). It is called Novgorod (Russia).

It is known as The Town That Disappeared in America.

One small community in western New York State with 1,200 residents vanished without a trace. With the exception of a road marker pointing to its former site, there were no remains: cars, bodies, houses.

The little village vanished, with no trace of its existence. Some believe it was swallowed by the earth. Others say it was destroyed in a meteorite collision. Some believe that it was taken by aliens.

Whatever happened, the residents of this once-thriving community are convinced that their town isn't gone forever. They had just moved to a new town.

Even a website exists to help track down the disappearances of the lost city Zugspitz.

You might be wondering where this town went. It's actually in Switzerland!

The border of Austria and Germany is at Zugspitze. Lake Zugspitze lies just above the summit of the mountain.

It has always fascinated me that so many towns have disappeared, yet some still remain. Why does some vanish while others remain? I decided that I would investigate.

I wanted to learn more about mysteriously disappearing towns. Is it possible for a place to vanish? How does one place go extinct?

There are many theories regarding the phenomenon of towns disappearing. One theory suggests that a community disappears when all of its buildings are removed. Another theory says that the town just moves. A third theory claims that the town never existed at all.

Although theories may be a bit speculative, it is a fact that numerous towns have been destroyed by the elements. This video examines the history and current status of these places.

Is there a more mysterious place than the Earth itself?

Antarctica is home to the most mysterious and remote place on Earth.

We find this place so fascinating. Because it is unlike anything else on Earth.

It is remote, isolated, and extremely difficult to visit. There is much more to this place than meets the eyes.

This natural wonder is also home to some of the strangest wildlife species.

Let's look at how this extraordinary destination became so mysterious.

Antarctica, The South Pole

Antarctica is not known by anyone. Some say it means "land on ice." Others think it comes from Greek mythology.

In ancient Greece, Antarktis was the name given to the island where Zeus' twin brothers were born. According to one source, one of the twins was conceived in winter. Thus, the term antarctic.

Others believe that it is the Greek word anti, which means against, and tropos, which refers to turning. This would translate to land that is turned away from the sun.

Whatever the reason Antarctica has always been a fascination for people.

It is the continent with the lowest, windiest and highest temperatures. There are no trees, plants, or animals here because it is too cold.

Yet, the frozen desert is alive with life.

Here, 90 percent live of all species of living things. You can find approximately half the world's species of animal and plant plants here.

What is Antarctica? Here, water freezes and becomes ice instead of evaporated into the air.

This creates large masses of ice that float above the ground.

These floating glaciers cover over 80%. They are growing in size every year.

Since 1960, the Antarctic ice sheets has grown 60ft.

If the melting continues, sea level could rise up to 200ft. This could lead to widespread flooding.

Not everyone believes this is bad news. Global warming may be beneficial for some scientists. They believe that global warming will lead to melting ice sheets faster and floods that can flush toxic chemicals out of our soils and bodies.

Others warn that this theory sounds like something out of a science-fiction movie.

How To

American history's secret societies and clubs

American History is fascinating because of many reasons. The mystery surrounding them is one reason. Another reason is their influence on our society.

Secret societies and clubs have been used throughout America’s history to spread ideas that would otherwise be taboo. These ideas include anti-Semitism and racism. These groups also helped spread political ideologies such as communism and socialism.

The Ku Klux Klan is America's most well-known organization. This group was founded in 1865 following the Civil War. Its purpose is to protect white people from African Americans.

Other organizations were also formed during this period, including the Knights Templars, Freemasons and Odd Fellows. These groups had the same goals and beliefs.

Another interesting aspect of secret societies is that they often had memberships restricted to males only. However, these groups had some female members. These women included Emma Goldman, Margaret Sanger, and Susan B Anthony.

Other secret societies, aside from the ones mentioned, did not share the same ideals. For example, the Order of Skull & Bones was founded in 1832. Their goal, however, was to create an elite section within the United States.
