Others believe that the name comes from the Greek words anti meaning against and tropos meaning to turn. This would mean that the land was turned away by the sun.

No matter the reason, Antarctica is a place that has always fascinated people.

It is the highest, coldest, windiest, dryest, and most populated continent. It is too cold for trees, plants and animals.

Yet, this frozen wasteland is alive.

It houses approximately 90% of all Earth's living organisms. Here are approximately 50% of all the animal and plant species in the world.

And what makes Antarctica such a unique environment? Here, water freezes in ice rather that vaporizing into the atmosphere.

This causes large amounts of ice to float above ground.

These floating glaciers make up 80%. They are growing in size every year.

The Antarctic ice sheet has grown 60ft since 1960.

If the melting continues, sea level could rise up to 200ft. This could lead worldwide flooding.

This is not necessarily bad news. Global warming may be beneficial for some scientists. They claim that the melting of ice sheets could accelerate as temperatures rise. This would lead to flooding that removes tons of toxic chemicals and soil from our bodies.

Others, however, warn that this theory sounds almost like a plot for a science fiction film.

The United Nations states that an average person produces more than 2.5 pounds of waste per day. That's over 25 billion pounds of garbage each year!

Most of this trash ends up in landfill dumps or incinerators.But what happens when those dumpsters get full? Most of that trash is shipped out of the country. The trash is then sent out of the country and dumped in countries where it pollutes ecosystems. But, one man has now discovered exactly where this rubbish goes. Mike Sexton is his nickname. He is the owner of Waste Watchers. His job involves monitoring the movements and routes of trash trucks across North America. He then gives us a report on what happens next.

Sexton said he enjoys his job. "We've got a lot of fun," he told CNN. "You know, we see these big rigs come through town, and we'll follow them. "Sexton started following truck driver almost 20 years back.

He stated, "I just fell in Love with It."

His favorite story involved a driver who pulled off at an abandoned gas station near Los Angeles. Sexton recalls, "The guy was searching for somewhere to put his loads." "He drove down the street and saw this building. He backed up and entered the building. "There were two enormous roll-off containers filled with stuff. The man got everything out of the truck and began filling it up again. "Then, he took everything out and started filling up the truck again. There were tires, rags. furniture, mattresses. boxes, bottles, cans. "It was a complete mess. But it had been cleaned before he arrived. There wasn’t trash everywhere."

This begs the question: Why? This particular spot used to be a recycling center. People would drive there to recycle their trash. Sexton explained that they would bring household items and take them to the building. Then, after they were done, they would empty the containers.

You might see this happen hundreds of times a day. This could happen hundreds times per week. Finally, the truck stops running completely due to its excessive junk. And eventually, the owner decides to abandon the vehicle.

Trash is not the only problem our planet faces.

Plastic pieces make up most of these particles. Others end up in rivers, oceans or the stomachss of fish.

Experts warn that the world may soon face a shortage of food if we don't make any changes. Experts warn that "if we keep going the way we are, we're not going make it," although scientists agree that the world is heading toward disaster. Most people, however, don't seem to be concerned.

Which is the most secretive city in the world?

It may surprise you to hear the answer. It might even make you uncomfortable because it challenges our perception of reality and how we live. But there is an explanation for why this place exists, and it's not what you would expect.

I have always been fascinated by the fact that so many towns have vanished, but some remain. Is it possible that some towns disappear and others are preserved? I decided that I would investigate.

I was curious about the disappearing towns. What causes a community to disappear? How can a town disappear from existence?

There are many theories regarding the phenomenon of towns disappearing. One theory is that a city disappears after all buildings have been demolished. Another theory suggests that the town simply moves somewhere else. A third theory states that the town didn't exist at all.

Theories aside, the fact remains that dozens of towns around the globe have been swallowed up by the ground. This video examines the history and current status of these places.
