In the novel "Disturbing Facts," a young attorney finds out a few disturbing facts about her family and boss. Decapitations don't always result in death, she discovers. A human head is still conscious for approximately thirty seconds after being cut. Human heads are also capable of hearing voices.
Tendency not to hear voices
Although hearing voices can be a sign of serious mental illness, it does not necessarily mean that it is the cause. It is believed that as many as 8% of the population hear voices from time-to-time. One percent of people who hear voices only occasionally do not need psychiatric care.
Human head remains conscious for 30 seconds after decapitation
Although it's difficult to tell how long a human skull remains conscious after being severed, the fact that it does so is remarkable. Normally, it would be expected that the head remains conscious for only a few seconds. However, this is not always true. In some cases, the head can even be conscious for more than a minute after decapitation.

Conus snails are capable of spiking blood from their eyes
Conus snails have brightly colored shells. They are often slow to move and hunt their prey using a hollow harpoon tooth and a hypodermic nail. Their venom is neurotoxic and attacks the nervous system. People who do not properly handle cone snails can be exposed to the poison.
King Charles II had a drink of alcohol mixed with pulverized head skulls
In the 18th century, it was common to drink alcohol mixed with pulverized skull powder. People believed the powder could cure a variety of ailments, such as bleeding and headaches. The practice was also used in the treatment of epilepsy.
Hypothermia
Hypothermia increases the risk of death among people who have been exposed. This condition can strike anyone, but it is particularly dangerous for those who are chronically ill and/or undernourished. Sometimes, people suffering from this disease are misdiagnosed as victims or criminals. This can have serious consequences for their families.
Makeup with lead
Lead is a bluish-grey, heavy metal that can be found in trace amounts throughout our environment. It is found in rocks, soil, water, and many foods. But, the concentration of lead is typically below the threshold for concern for human safety. The majority of our exposure to lead is due to air pollution. However, cosmetics do not contain any lead by design.

Medical errors
In the United States, medical errors are responsible for at least one death per minute. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 251,454 people are killed each year due to medical errors. This is nearly nine percent of all deaths. Furthermore, medical mistakes are more likely to occur in stressful situations and new procedures. Medical professionals must work together to reduce the chance of medical mistakes and prevent them from ever happening.
FAQ
Have you ever wondered what amount of trash is generated each day worldwide?
According to the United Nations there are more than 25 billion tons of garbage produced each year.
Many of this trash ends in landfill dumps, or incinerators. But what happens if those dumpsters are full? All that trash ends up being shipped out of country. The trash is then sent out of the country and dumped in countries where it pollutes ecosystems. But, one man has now discovered exactly where this rubbish goes. Mike Sexton is his full name. He is the founder of Waste Watchers. He watches over trucks that transport trash across North America. He then gives us a report on what happens next.
Sexton claims he is very satisfied with his job. "We've got a lot of fun," he told CNN. "You know, we see these big rigs come through town, and we'll follow them. "Sexton started following truck drivers nearly 20 years ago.
"I just fell in love with it," he said.
His favorite story involved a driver who pulled off at an abandoned gas station near Los Angeles. Sexton recalls, "The guy was searching for somewhere to put his loads." "He drove down the road and saw this building. He pulled over and went in. "There were two huge roll-off containers there filled with stuff. The man took all the stuff out and filled up his truck with more. "Then, he took everything out and started filling up the truck again. There were lots of old tires, rags furniture, mattresses, mattresses, cans, cans, and other items. "It was a complete mess. But it had been cleaned out before he came along. There was no trash."
What is the explanation? The answer is that this location was once part of a recycling facility. People who knew about it would drive to this location to recycle their garbage. "They'd bring their household items and take them to this building," Sexton explained. And after they finished, they would leave the empty containers behind.
This could happen hundreds of time per week. It could happen hundreds of thousands of times a week. The truck eventually stops running because it has become so jammed with junk. And eventually, the owner decides to abandon the vehicle.
But, this isn't the only problem that our planet is facing.
Many of these tiny plastic pieces end up in landfills and incinerators. Others get washed into rivers or oceans. And when they reach the ocean, they often end up in the stomachs of fish.
Experts warn of a possible global food crisis if nothing is done. Experts warn that "if we keep going the way we are, we're not going make it," although scientists agree that the world is heading toward disaster. Most people, however, don't seem to be concerned.
What is the most mysterious area on earth?
Antarctica is the most mysterious continent on Earth.
Why do we find this place so intriguing? Because it's unlike any other place in the world.
It is difficult to access because it is remote and extremely isolated. There is much more to this place than meets the eyes.
You will also find some of the oddest wildlife species in this natural wonder.
Let's look at how this extraordinary destination became so mysterious.
Antarctica, The South Pole
Antarctica is not known by anyone. Some believe it means "land of ice." Some believe it means "land of ice". Others believe it is Greek mythology.
Antarktis, the Greek name for the island on which Zeus' twin brothers were conceived, was used in ancient Greece. According to some legends, one of these twins was born in winter. Hence, the word antarctic.
Others believe that the name is a combination of the Greek words anti and tropos which mean against and turn. This would mean that the land was turned away by the sun.
Whatever the reason Antarctica holds a special fascination, people have always loved it.
It is the highest, coldest, windiest, dryest, and most populated continent. Because it is so cold, there aren't any trees, plants or animals.
Yet, life is abundant in this frozen wilderness.
Here, 90 percent live of all species of living things. About 50% of the world's plant and animal species can be found here.
What makes Antarctica so special? Here, water freezes in ice rather that vaporizing into the atmosphere.
This causes large masses to form of ice which float high above the ground.
These floating glaciers make up 80%. They are growing in size every year.
The Antarctic Ice Sheet has grown 60 feet in the past 60 years.
The sea level could rise to 200 feet if the melting continues. This could lead to widespread flooding.
This is not necessarily bad news. Global warming may be beneficial for some scientists. They believe that global warming will lead to melting ice sheets faster and floods that can flush toxic chemicals out of our soils and bodies.
Others warn that this theory sounds like something out of a science-fiction movie.
What dark secrets do Hollywood have?
Hollywood is filled secret societies. Some secret societies are cultlike groups that have strict rules and rituals. Other clubs are for people who share common interests.
There are also other, more evil organizations that control large parts of the industry. These include companies such as the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), which sets film ratings, and the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), which sets music licensing fees.
Numerous unions and guilds also represent actors, directors, writers, producers, etc. These large corporations control the majority of major film studios and television networks.
The point is that no matter how secretive any group may seem, someone somewhere knows exactly what they do. We shouldn't fear these people.
Instead, embrace them. Because they offer us information that can help us make better decision.
They also tell us about the movies that are most likely to succeed and which songs are most popular.
They help us make decisions about what we will buy, watch, listen to, or read.
We can trust their advice and we can ignore it if it contradicts our values.
Because we have chosen to ignore their power, they are even more powerful. They are the supreme arbiters of taste.
If you don't like their words, you can choose to ignore them.
Let's take a closer look at some of the less-known, yet still very real Hollywood secret clubs.
And see why they're so important.
How does the brain regulate the functions of the body?
The brain sends messages to other organs and muscles to ensure they work together. Everything that happens within your body is controlled by the brain. It tells both your stomach and lungs what to do; it also controls your legs and arms.
Your brain is composed of billions and billions nerve cells, connected in groups called neurons. Action potentials on Axons are an electrical signal that neurons send to each other. Every neuron has a cell wall around its nucleus. Inside the membrane are channels that allow ions such as sodium and potassium to enter and leave the cell. Ion movement is what causes the neurons to fire.
Neurotransmitters are chemicals released when a neuron fires. Neurotransmitters can bind to receptors at the second neuron. They open ions channels, allowing ions to move in and outside of the channel. As a result, second neuron fires as well.
Neurotransmitter release occurs when the presynaptic neuron receives an impulse from another neuron. The impulse travels along an synapse between the neurons. The transmitter binds with the receptors of the postsynaptic nerve, activating the firing of the postsynaptic neurons.
For communication within the nervous systems, neurotransmitters are essential. They also help coordinate activity between different parts of the brain.

Hollywood scandals that shocked all of the world
Nothing is more shocking than seeing someone famous for wrong reasons. It's even more frightening to see them fall from grace.
It's fascinating to see how industries react to their mistakes. We've all heard about celebrities who took too much alcohol and drugs. Some even died young because of it.
The worst part about this is that these same stars come out with their problems and are ridiculed by everyone. This is where we ended up last week.
Heath Ledger died after a long, successful career. He died after succumbing to prescription drugs.
His family and friends were unable to accept his death, and the media was quick to criticize him.
Heath was once regarded as one of the best actors today. His performance in Brokeback Mountain earned him two Academy Awards nominations.
Heath, in addition to acting, also wrote and directed films such as A Knight's Tale (Monster's Ball) and Iron Man (3).
Hollywood loved Heath, but he became too big for his britches. He began to drink heavily and took drugs. He ended up in rehab and became clean.
Now that he was sober, he wanted to make amends. So he made a documentary called "Room 237," which chronicled the making of The Shining. It was supposed to hit theaters this year. However, it won't until next year.
Heath tried many times to get back into Hollywood. Nothing worked. He was actually arrested twice for drug charges.
We don't believe Heath should have been allowed to go back into the entertainment industry. However, it would have been nice if he could have gotten some help before things spiraled out of control.
We hope Heath’s story can be an example to other people who believe they can still have it all.
