Antarctica: The South Pole
It is not known why Antarctica was called Antarctica. Some say it means "land on ice." Others think it comes from Greek mythology.
Antarktis, the Greek name for the island on which Zeus' twin brothers were conceived, was used in ancient Greece. According to legend, one twin was born in winter. The term antarctic is derived from this.
Others believe that it is the Greek word anti, which means against, and tropos, which refers to turning. This would signify land turned away the sun.
Whatever the reason Antarctica holds a special fascination, people have always loved it.
It is the driest, windiest of all continents. It is too cold for trees, plants and animals.
And yet, this frozen wasteland is teeming with life.
Here, 90 percent live of all species of living things. Here are approximately 50% of all the animal and plant species in the world.
What is Antarctica? Here, water freezes into ice instead of evaporating into the air.
This creates large masses of ice that float above the ground.
These floating glaciers cover 80% of the continent. They are growing in size every year.
So far, the Antarctic ice sheet has grown 60 feet since 1960.
The sea level could rise to 200 feet if the melting continues. This could lead to widespread flooding.
This is not necessarily bad news. Some scientists believe that global warming can be beneficial. They say that as temperatures rise, the ice sheets might melt faster, causing floods that flush out tons of toxic chemicals from our soil and bodies.
Others, however, warn that this theory sounds almost like a plot for a science fiction film.

We have two eyes and two ears, two nostrils each, four limbs, four limbs and a penis. It's true, we have more 50 parts of our body, but there is one thing missing. A heart.
A heart is a pump that circulates blood throughout the body. The blood flows through the veins and arteries to carry oxygen and nutrients to the cells.

Red blood cells are not available to sickle cell patients. Their blood becomes sticky and hardens, causing them to become very ill.
You can use a bandage to stop bleeding if your cut is severe. Blood must continue to flow to allow the wounds to heal properly. To do this, doctors insert a needle through the skin into the vein next to the injury. This allows the blood from the injured area to drain.
A doctor can also insert tubes (catheters), into an artery in the vicinity of where blood clots form. This helps to keep the patient alive until the blood clot disintegrates naturally.
What is the reason actors are blacklisted?
When you're an actor, there's more rejection than when you're a writer. You will likely be rejected many times if you are an actor. But it doesn't matter because eventually, you'll find someone who loves you.
Actors are usually very talented, meaning they can make a living almost anywhere. But most actors don't want to make a lot of money. They love acting, and they love telling stories. If you are an actor, you will most likely put yourself out there.
You might even go to auditions where you're told that you're too old, too young, or not right for the role. Or, you could lose out on a role in a movie. That happens a lot.
But once you've been cast, you may also face criticism. People may tell you that your makeup looks terrible and you shouldn't use it. If you're lucky, you won't even hear negative comments.
Sometimes, your performance as a fictional character can be ridiculed. You could be a gay actor and everyone assumes you are straight. Or maybe you play a woman who is supposed to be tough, but she cries a lot.
Maybe you are asked to change your vocal chords. Sometimes, they want you to sound more like a man or a woman. Most of the time, however, they want to hear better.
To ignore criticisms is the best way to respond. Actors often feel like they've failed if they're told they did something wrong. They haven't done any wrong.
They weren't born with the talents that made them famous. They may not fit the bill sometimes, no mater how hard they try.
Blacklisting can happen for many reasons. Some people don't like actors. Some people think actors are lazy. Others think actors are lazy.
Whatever the reason, it's important to realize that you will not get blacklisted if you keep trying. There are plenty of jobs available and you'll find them.
Keep trying and you will eventually succeed.
Is there an Hollywood blacklist?
There is a Hollywood blacklist.
But the list isn't made public. As far as we are aware, the names are not even known. It matters because of this.
The secret reason is that directors and actors who are on the blacklist would not be able to find employment. The studios would be out of business as they lose money. It would mean they would reduce their expenditure on movies. This would result in fewer opportunities available for blacklisted filmmakers. This could lead to them going bankrupt.
Which could ultimately result in more victims.
A contract may be required to agree to not speak against employers if someone attempts to make an Oscar winning movie. Any director or producer who would like to be nominated for an award is subject to the same rules.
You hear stories of directors being pressured to remove scenes from films. Directors may threaten to quit projects that don’t align with their vision.
This is why Hollywood has created a blacklist. If you speak negatively about your employer, you will likely be fired. This is not good news for anyone.
Problem is, many people have been falsely charged. It's been a struggle to get their names cleared.
We need to stop this kind of thing before it starts happening again. We need to ensure everyone has the right of expression.
So we need to take down the Hollywood blacklist.
