Art in WW2

scary history facts

Combat artists capture the reality of war

The realities of war were captured by combat artists during WW2, as they captured images that showed the horrors and complexity of the conflict. These artists often took photographs of the war in close quarters and embedded themselves with the units they were assigned. Orville Fisher was one of these artists. He wore a waterproof pad of pen to his wrist and sketched D-Day.

In addition to documenting the war, these artists created thousands of works of art that were used in publications and magazines. Many of these works were also part of national exhibitions. These works covered various battles and actions that took place in Europe and the Pacific. Many of these images included captions that described the events.

Artists for Victory

Artists for Victory, a non profit group that united over ten thousand artists in WW2, was a group that did not profit. The group partnered up with government agencies and companies to create war-themed visual material to promote war efforts. The mission of the group was to aid the United States in winning the war.

random creepy facts

Artists founded the group to fight philistinism, and to use their artistic talents for war efforts. The group was the first of its kind and pledged to produce five millions hours of art for war efforts.

Looted art

Many pieces taken by Nazis in World War II were returned to their owners. Recently, Pierre Auguste Renoir's Nudes in Landscape revealed that the painting had been taken from the German Jewish banker. The painting was returned to the heirs of Hugo Simon, a banker who was also an art collector.

Although most of the art that was looted in WW2 has been returned, there are still many pieces that remain in the wrong hands. Many of these objects were sent to Soviet Union during wartime. Russia is legally obligated to return these pieces. Many of these works can be found in Moscow's museums. The Polish government will submit seven more restitution requests.

Objects recovered after the war

There are many resources available for finding out provenance of art items. The National Gallery of Art conducted extensive research into the history of art object. They focused their efforts on World War II and discovered many connections between art objects, and their owners. This website provides extensive archival and wartime histories which make it easy for you to find out the origin of an object.

secrets world

There are three main collections that contain objects that were found after the war. These collections contain a mixture of cultural and historical objects that were looted or traded. The Nazis plundered cultural property, especially Jewish property. They used systematic methods to identify the most valuable collections. Eventually, some of the seized artifacts were returned to their rightful owners, but many remain unaccounted for.

Donated objects to USSR

The National Archives of the United States recently released a CDROM, which documents the transfer of cultural heritage from the United States of America to the Soviet Union. It includes facsimile inventories of approximately half a millenial cultural objects. These cultural treasures were most likely taken by the Nazis and sent to Germany. The Soviet copies of these items don't exist in Russia’s archives.

These items were used in the USSR's war effort. During World War 2, more than 25,000,000 Soviet citizens were killed in a fierce battle against Nazi Germany. Despite numerous defeats during the first 18 months, the Soviet Union rebuilt its army and marched to Berlin. The United States provided huge military and economic support to the Soviet Union in order to help make the war effort possible.

FAQ

Is there a Hollywood blacklist of actors?

There is a Hollywood blacklist.

The list is not made public. We don't know the names. Here's why this matters.

The reason behind the secrecy was that blacklisted directors and actors wouldn't be able find work. The studios would be out of business as they lose money. This would mean that they would cut back on movie production. This would result in fewer opportunities available for blacklisted filmmakers. This would make them bankrupt.

Which could ultimately result in more victims.

If someone attempts to make an Oscar-winning movie, they may be asked to sign a contract stating that they will not speak out against their employers. Any director or producer who would like to be nominated for an award is subject to the same rules.

Producers often pressure directors to cut scenes from their films. Directors threaten to abandon projects that don’t conform to their vision.

This is why Hollywood has created a blacklist. Negative comments about your employer will most likely lead to you being unemployed. That's bad for everyone.

Problem is, many people have been falsely charged. They've had the toil to clear their name.

We must stop this from happening again. It is essential that everyone has the freedom to express their opinions.

So we need to take down the Hollywood blacklist.

Which is the most secretive city in the world?

The answer to that question may shock you. It may even make it uncomfortable, as it challenges our perceptions of reality and our lives. However, there's a reason for this place to exist. It's not what we would expect.

The ancient Greeks called it the City of God. It was also called the City of Destruction in the Bible.

It's also known as Kashi (Kashmir) in India. It's also known as Novgorod in Russia.

Here in America, however, it is called The Village That Disappeared.

One small New York State town with just 1,200 people vanished. With the exception of a road marker pointing to its former site, there were no remains: cars, bodies, houses.

This tiny town vanished without any trace. Some believe it was swallowed by the earth. Others claim a meteorite strike destroyed it. Some believe that it was taken by aliens.

The residents of this once prosperous community believe that whatever happened, their town is not gone forever. They had just moved to another town.

Even a website exists to help track down the disappearances of the lost city Zugspitz.

So where is this town? It's in Switzerland.

Zugspitze is situated on the border between Germany und Austria. Just beyond the summit of the mountain is a huge lake called Lake Zugspitze.

It's always fascinated me how so many towns disappear, yet others remain. Why do some disappear while others survive? I decided to investigate.

I was interested in learning more about these mysterious towns that are disappearing. Is it possible for a place to vanish? How does one place go extinct?

It turns out that there are several theories about the phenomenon of vanishing towns. One theory is that a city disappears after all buildings have been demolished. Another theory states that the town simply moves to another location. The third theory is that the town was never actually there.

There are many theories, but the truth is that thousands of towns around the world have been submerged by the earth. This video looks into the history of those places and investigates their current status.

Hollywood is full of secret societies. There are many secret societies in Hollywood. Some are cult-like, where members adhere to strict rules and rituals. Others are clubs for people who share similar interests.

Some of the most powerful organizations in the industry are even more dangerous. Companies such as the MPAA, which determines film ratings, or the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), that set music licensing fees, are examples of these.

Many unions and guilds represent actors, directors writers, producers, and others. The majority of major television networks and movie studios are owned by large corporations.

It doesn't matter how secretive a group might seem, someone somewhere knows what they are doing. But we don't have to fear them.
