FAQ
How does the brain control the functions of your body?
The brain communicates with other organs to ensure their cooperation. Your brain controls all that happens in your body. It tells the stomach to digest food, and the lungs to breath air. It also tells your legs and arms to move.
Your brain is made up of billions upon billions of nerve cells that are connected together in groups called neuronal groups. Action potentials are electrical signals that neurons send to one another. Every neuron has an outer cell membrane that surrounds its nucleus. There are channels within the membrane that allow ions such a sodium or potassium to enter and exit the cell. Ion movement creates the electric charge that causes the neuron to fire.
Neurotransmitters are chemicals released when a neuron fires. Neurotransmitters bind to receptors on the second neuron, opening ion channels so ions can pass in and out of the channel. This causes the second neuron to fire too.
When another neuron sends an impulse to the presynaptic neural cell, neurotransmitter is released. The impulse travels along the synaptic pathway that connects both neurons. The transmitter binds to the receptors on the postsynaptic neural cell, which triggers the firing of that neuron.
The nervous system relies on neurotransmitters for communication. They also help coordinate activity between different parts of the brain.
Which is the most mysterious spot on Earth?
Antarctica is home to the most mysterious and remote place on Earth.
This is why we find it so captivating. Because it is unlike any other spot on Earth.
It is difficult to access because it is remote and extremely isolated. There is much more to this place than meets the eyes.
You'll also find the strangest species of wildlife in this natural wonder.
Let's look at how this extraordinary destination became so mysterious.
Antarctica, The South Pole
Antarctica is not known by anyone. Some believe it means "land of ice." Some believe it means "land of ice". Others believe it is Greek mythology.
Antarktis is the name Antarktis was given to an island in ancient Greece by Zeus' twin brothers. According to legend, one twin was born in winter. This is why the word "antarctic" was chosen.
Others think the name came from the Greek words anti, meaning against, and tropos meaning turn. This would translate to land that is turned away from the sun.
Whatever the reason, Antarctica has always held a special fascination for people.
It is the driest, windiest of all continents. It is too cold to support trees, plants, and animals.
Yet, life is abundant in this frozen wilderness.
It houses approximately 90% of all Earth's living organisms. You can find approximately half the world's species of animal and plant plants here.
What is the secret to Antarctica's unique environment? Here, water freezes and becomes ice instead of evaporated into the air.
This causes large amounts of ice to float above ground.
These floating glaciers cover 80% of the continent. They are growing in size every year.
Since 1960, the Antarctic ice sheets has grown 60ft.
The sea level could rise to 200 feet if the melting continues. This could lead to widespread flooding.
But not everyone thinks this is bad news. Some scientists claim that global warming could be good for us. They suggest that rising temperatures could cause ice sheet melt faster, leading to floods that flush out toxic chemicals from soil and bodies.
However, others caution that this theory sounds a lot like a plot in a science fiction movie.
Did you know that there are approximately 1.6 billion metric tons of trash produced every day in the world?
According to the United Nations the average person creates more than 2.5 lbs of waste daily. That adds up over 25 billion kilos of garbage every year.
Most of this rubbish ends up in landfills or incinerators. But, what happens when those dumpsters fill up? Most of that trash is shipped out of the country. The trash is then sent out of the country and dumped in countries where it pollutes ecosystems. But, one man has now discovered exactly where this rubbish goes. Mike Sexton is his nickname. He is the owner of Waste Watchers. His job involves monitoring the movements and routes of trash trucks across North America. He reports back to us about the next steps.
Sexton said he enjoys his job. CNN asked Sexton if he thought it was a lot of fun. "You know, we see these big rigs come through town, and we'll follow them. "Sexton started following truck drivers nearly 20 years ago.
He stated, "I just fell in Love with It."
His favorite story involved a driver who pulled off at an abandoned gas station near Los Angeles. Sexton recalls, "The guy was searching for somewhere to put his loads." "He saw the building as he drove down the road. He pulled over and went in. "There were two enormous roll-off containers filled with stuff. The man removed everything from the truck and started to load it again. "Then, he took everything out and started filling up the truck again. There were lots of old tires, rags furniture, mattresses, mattresses, cans, cans, and other items. "It was a complete mess. But it had been cleared out before he arrived. There wasn't any trash anywhere."
This is the reason why it happened. The answer is that this location was once part of a recycling facility. People who knew about it would drive to this location to recycle their garbage. Sexton explained that they would bring household items and take them to the building. Then, after they were done, they would empty the containers.
This can happen hundreds of times a week. It can happen hundreds of time per week. Eventually, the truck is so full of junk it stops running. The owner eventually abandons the vehicle.
Trash isn’t the only problem we face on the planet.
Many of these tiny plastic pieces end up in landfills and incinerators. Others get washed into rivers or oceans. And when they reach the ocean, they often end up in the stomachs of fish.
Experts warn that if there is no change, the world could soon be facing a food shortage. One expert said, "If we keep going as we are going, we're never going to make it," but most people don’t seem concerned.
What is the most secretive place in the world, and why?
You might be surprised at the answer. It could even make you uncomfortable, because it challenges how reality is perceived and lived. But there is a reason why this place exists. And it is not what you would expect.
The City of God was its name by the ancient Greeks. In the Bible, it was known as the City of Destruction.
It's also known as Kashi (Kashmir) in India. It's known in Russia as Novgorod.
It's called The Town That Has Disappeared here in America.
One tiny town in western New York State lost its 1,200 inhabitants without trace. No bodies, cars, houses, nothing was left behind except a road sign pointing to its former location.
This tiny town vanished without any trace. Some say the earth swallowed it up. Others claim a meteorite strike destroyed it. Still, others say aliens took it away.
Whatever happened, the residents of this once-thriving community are convinced that their town isn't gone forever. They had just moved to a new town.
There is even a website dedicated to tracking the disappearance of the lost city of Zugspitz.
The question is, where did this place go? Well, it's in Switzerland!
You can find Zugspitze at the border of Austria and Germany. Lake Zugspitze can be found just beyond the summit.
It has always fascinated and astonished me to see how many towns have vanished but still exist. Why does some vanish while others remain? I decided that I would investigate.
I wanted to know more about the mysterious disappearing towns. What causes a town to disappear? How can a town disappear from existence?
There are many theories regarding the phenomenon of towns disappearing. One theory says that a town disappears when all the buildings are demolished. Another theory holds that the town simply relocates to another location. A third theory claims that the town never existed at all.
Theories aside, the fact remains that dozens of towns around the globe have been swallowed up by the ground. This video explores the history of these towns and examines their current state.
