horrifying facts

Ebbinghaus illusion

The Ebbinghaus illusion is an optical illusion that occurs when a stimulus appears larger than the size of its surroundings. It depends on how the stimulus is perceived to be larger than the surrounding objects. The flashlag effect, which makes the objects appear similar at a later point in time, supports the size perception. Participants were shown four identical surrounding disks in two sets at different times. It was evident that the size of the central discs on one side of the retina changed significantly, creating a flash-lag effect.

FAQ

How does the brain regulate the functions of the body?

To ensure that other organs and muscle functions work together, the brain sends messages. Everything in your body is controlled and managed by your brain. It tells the stomach to digest food, and the lungs to breath air. It also tells your legs and arms to move.

Your brain consists of billions of nerve cells connected in groups called neurons. Action potentials are electrical signals that neurons send to one another. Each neuron is covered by a cell membrane. There are channels within the membrane that allow ions such a sodium or potassium to enter and exit the cell. The electric charge that causes the neuron's fire is created by ion movement.

Neurotransmitters, chemical substances that are released when a neuron fires. Neurotransmitters bind to receptors on the second neuron, opening ion channels so ions can pass in and out of the channel. The second neuron also fires.

When a presynaptic nerve receives an impulse, neurotransmitter release takes place. The impulse travels along the synapse connecting the two neurons. The transmitter binds to the receptors on the postsynaptic neural cell, which triggers the firing of that neuron.

Neurotransmitters are important for communication within the nervous system. They coordinate activity between the different parts of your brain.

Five interesting facts about your liver.

The liver is responsible for breaking down toxins and storing vitamins and minerals. It also helps regulate blood pressure and keeps our body temperature stable.

How often do we hear someone say, 'I feel sluggish today' or 'my head feels heavy'? These symptoms could be signs of liver problems.

Itching, dark urine and yellowing skin are all common symptoms. But these aren't the only warning signs. These are not the only warning signs. Make an appointment immediately with your doctor if they occur.

The liver, an essential organ, is vital. It plays a role in detoxification, digestion, metabolism, immunity, and reproduction.

  1. The average adult human liver is approximately 1,400g.
  2. At birth, a baby's liver is half the size of an adult. It can grow to four times the size of an infant's liver by the age 3.
  3. The liver can be found just below the rib cage, on the left side.
  4. The liver is divided into 16 major lobes. However, there are many smaller lobules that are within these lobes.
  5. The liver contains about 10 million individual red blood cells.

Have you ever wondered what amount of trash is generated each day worldwide?

The United Nations estimates that the average person generates more than 2.5 pounds of waste each day. This adds up to over 25 million pounds of garbage annually!

Most of this rubbish ends up in landfills or incinerators. But, what happens when those dumpsters fill up? All that trash ends up being shipped out of country. The rest is dumped abroad, where it pollutes other ecosystems. Now, we know the exact location of all this garbage. Mike Sexton is his full name. He runs Waste Watchers, a company that monitors the movements of trucks carrying trash all across North America. He then reports back about what happens next.

Sexton says he finds his job very satisfying. "We've got a lot of fun," he told CNN. "We'll be following these big rigs through town. "Sexton started following truck drivers nearly 20 years ago.

He said, "I fell in love with it."

Sexton's favorite story was about a driver who stopped at an abandoned gas station in Los Angeles. Sexton described, "The guy was looking somewhere to put his load." "He drove down the road to see this building. So he pulled over and went inside. "There was a pair of large, full-sized roll-off boxes. He took out everything and began to fill up the truck. "Then, he took everything out and started filling up the truck again. There were lots of old tires, rags furniture, mattresses, mattresses, cans, cans, and other items. "It was just a total mess. It had been cleaned up before he arrived. There wasn't any trash."

What is the explanation? It is because the location used to belong to a recycling centre. People who found out about this facility would drive to it to recycle their trash. Sexton said that people would bring their household items to the building and then leave empty containers behind.

You might see this happen hundreds of times a day. It could happen hundreds of thousands of times a week. The truck eventually stops running because it has become so jammed with junk. The owner eventually abandons the vehicle.

But, this isn't the only problem that our planet is facing.

These tiny plastic particles make up the majority of the particles. Some end up in incinerators or landfills. Others end up in rivers, oceans or the stomachss of fish.

Experts warn that if there is no change, the world could soon be facing a food shortage. Experts warn that "if we keep going the way we are, we're not going make it," although scientists agree that the world is heading toward disaster. Most people, however, don't seem to be concerned.

What is your most secretive community?

It may surprise you to hear the answer. This may make you feel uncomfortable as it challenges your perception of reality and the way we live. But there is an explanation for why this place exists, and it's not what you would expect.

It was known as the City of God to the ancient Greeks. It was also called the City of Destruction in the Bible.

It is also called Kashi in India (Kashmir). In Russia, it's called Novgorod.

Here in America, however, it is called The Village That Disappeared.

One small community in western New York State with 1,200 residents vanished without a trace. A road sign pointing to the former location of the town was all that was left, except for a few bodies and cars.

This little town disappeared, leaving no clues about where it went or when. Some believe the earth swallowed them up. Some claim it was destroyed by a meteorite impact. Some believe that it was taken by aliens.

The people of this once-thriving community, however, are positive that the town won't disappear forever. They had just moved from one town to the other.

There is even a website dedicated to tracking the disappearance of the lost city of Zugspitz.

Then, where is it? It's actually in Switzerland!

You can find Zugspitze at the border of Austria and Germany. Just beyond the summit of the mountain is a huge lake called Lake Zugspitze.

It's always fascinated me how so many towns disappear, yet others remain. Why do some disappear while others survive? I decided to investigate.

I was interested in learning more about these mysterious towns that are disappearing. What makes a town disappear? How can a town disappear from existence?

There are many theories regarding the phenomenon of towns disappearing. One theory is that a city disappears after all buildings have been demolished. Another theory suggests that the town simply moves somewhere else. A third theory states that the town didn't exist at all.

Theories aside, the fact remains that dozens of towns around the globe have been swallowed up by the ground. This video explores the history of these towns and examines their current state.
