How does the brain control the functions in your body?

To ensure that other organs and muscle functions work together, the brain sends messages. Everything that happens within your body is controlled by the brain. It tells your stomach to digest food and your lungs to breathe air; it tells your arms and legs to move.

Your brain consists of billions of nerve cells connected in groups called neurons. Action potentials are electrical signals that neurons send to one another. Each neuron has its own cell membrane around its nucleus. There are channels within the membrane that allow ions such a sodium or potassium to enter and exit the cell. Ion movement creates the electric charge that causes the neuron to fire.

When a neuron is activated, neurotransmitters release chemicals into the space between it and the next neuron. Neurotransmitters attach to the receptors of the second neuron and open ions channels for ions to pass in and out. As a result, second neuron fires as well.

When a presynaptic nerve receives an impulse, neurotransmitter release takes place. The impulse travels along an synapse between the neurons. The transmitter binds to receptors on the postsynaptic neuron, triggering the firing of the postsynaptic neuron.

Communication within the nervous system is possible thanks to neurotransmitters. They coordinate brain activity among different parts.

What dark secrets do Hollywood have?

Hollywood is filled with secret societies. Many secret societies are cult-like and follow rigid rules. Others are just clubs for people with common interests.

There are also other, more evil organizations that control large parts of the industry. These include companies such as the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), which sets film ratings, and the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), which sets music licensing fees.

Numerous unions/guilds also represent actors and directors as well as writers, producers, and so forth. Many of the major TV networks and movie studios are owned or controlled by large corporations.

It doesn't matter how secretive a group might seem, someone somewhere knows what they are doing. However, we shouldn't fear them.

Instead, embrace them. Because they can help us make better decisions.

These experts tell us which movies are most likely to succeed, which songs will be in demand, and what books will sell the best.

In short, they help us decide what we'll buy, watch, read, and listen to.

We can trust them and can disregard their advice if it is not in line with our preferences.

We choose to ignore them and they become even more powerful. They are the ultimate arbiters and judges of taste.

They can be ignored if you don’t like what they have to say.

Now let's take a look at some lesser-known yet very real Hollywood secret society.

And you'll understand why they're so crucial.

What is the most mysterious area on earth?

Antarctica is considered the most mysterious area on Earth.

This is why we find it so captivating. Because it is unlike anything else on Earth.

It is isolated, remote, and very hard to visit. However, there's more to this location than meets the eye.

Some of the most bizarre wildlife species can also be found in this natural wonder.

Let's find out how this mysterious destination became so famous.

Antarctica: The South Pole

Antarctica is named for no one. Others believe it means "land with ice". Others believe it comes out of Greek mythology.

In ancient Greece, Antarktis was the name given to the island where Zeus' twin brothers were born. One of the twins was said to have been born in winter. Therefore, the name antarctic.

Others believe that the name is a combination of the Greek words anti and tropos which mean against and turn. This would signify land turned away the sun.

Whatever the reason Antarctica has always been a fascination for people.

It is the continent with the lowest, windiest and highest temperatures. Because it is so cold, there aren't any trees, plants or animals.

This frozen wasteland is still alive.

It is home to approximately 90 percent of all life on Earth. There are about 50% of the world's animal, plant and plant species.

What is Antarctica? Here, water freezes in ice rather that vaporizing into the atmosphere.

This causes large amounts of ice to float above ground.

These glaciers cover more than 80% of the continent. And they're growing larger every year.

Since 1960, the Antarctic ice sheets has grown 60ft.

If the melting goes on, the sea level may rise by as much as 200 feet. This could lead to widespread flooding.

Not everyone believes this is bad news. Some scientists believe that global warming can be beneficial. They believe that global warming will lead to melting ice sheets faster and floods that can flush toxic chemicals out of our soils and bodies.

Others, however, warn that this theory sounds almost like a plot for a science fiction film.
