FAQ

How does your brain control the functions within your body?

To ensure that other organs and muscle functions work together, the brain sends messages. Everything that happens within your body is controlled by the brain. It tells you your stomach to digest food; your lungs to inhale air; and it tells you your arms and legs how to move.

Your brain is made up of billions upon billions of nerve cells that are connected together in groups called neuronal groups. Action potentials, which are electrical signals sent by neurons to each other via axons, allow them to communicate with one another. Every neuron has an outer cell membrane that surrounds its nucleus. Channels within the membrane allow ions such potassium and sodium to enter and leave the cells. The neuron is lit by an electric charge created by the movement of ions.

Neurotransmitters are chemicals released when a neuron fires. Neurotransmitters attach to the receptors of the second neuron and open ions channels for ions to pass in and out. The second neuron also fires.

When another neuron sends an impulse to the presynaptic neural cell, neurotransmitter is released. An impulse travels along a synaptic link between the two neuron. The transmitter binds directly to the receptors in the postsynaptic nervous neuron, and triggers the firing.

They are vital for the communication between nerve cells. They also coordinate activity between different brain parts.

What is the most intriguing fact about the human anatomy?

We have two eyes, two ears, two nostrils, four limbs, a mouth, a nose, and a penis. We have over 50 parts of our bodies. However, one thing is missing. A heart.

A heart is the pump that circulates blood throughout a body. The blood travels through the veins and arteries, transporting oxygen and nutrients to cells. It also removes carbon dioxide.

Each minute, the heart pumps 5 liters of blood. This is equivalent to a person drinking 2-3 cups coffee daily.

The heart pumps blood 24 hours a days, 365 days per year. While you sleep, your heart beats almost 100 times per minute.

Because of the color and texture of their skin, you can tell if someone is healthy or sick. You can see tiny blood vessels, called capillaries, when you look closely at the skin. These vessels carry blood back to the heart from the large blood vessels beneath the skin. The skin turns blue or violet when blood flow becomes blocked.

Red blood cells are missing in people with sickle-cell disease. Patients with sickle cell disease have their blood become sticky and harden, leading to severe illness.

You can use a bandage to stop bleeding if your cut is severe. Blood must flow in order for the wound to heal properly. To do this, doctors will insert a needle through your skin into the vein adjacent to the injury. This allows blood drainage from the injury area.

A doctor can also insert tubes (catheters), into an artery in the vicinity of where blood clots form. This helps to keep the patient alive until the blood clot disintegrates naturally.

What is the most mysterious place on earth?

Antarctica is the world's most mysterious place on Earth.

What is it that makes this place so interesting? Because it is unlike any place on Earth.

It is remote and difficult to reach. This site has more to it than meets your eye.

Some of the most bizarre wildlife species can also be found in this natural wonder.

Let's find out how this mysterious destination became so famous.

Antarctica: The South Pole

Antarctica is named for no one. Others believe it means "land with ice". Others believe it derives from Greek mythology.

Antarktis in ancient Greece was the name given the island where Zeus' twin brother brothers were born. According to one source, one of the twins was conceived in winter. The term antarctic is derived from this.

Others believe that the name comes from the Greek words anti meaning against and tropos meaning to turn. This would mean that the land was turned away by the sun.

Whatever the reason, Antarctica has always held a special fascination for people.

It is also the lowest, windiest continent, driest, and highest. Because it is so cold, there aren't any trees, plants or animals.

Yet, this frozen wasteland is alive.

About 90 percent of all living things on Earth live here. About 50% of the world's plant and animal species can be found here.

What is it that makes Antarctica so unique? Here, water is frozen into ice rather than vaporizing into the air.

This causes large masses to form of ice which float high above the ground.

These glaciers are responsible for covering 80% of the continent. They continue to grow in size each year.

The Antarctic ice has grown 60 feet so far since 1960.

If the melting continues, the sea level will rise by up to 200 feet. This could lead to massive flooding across the globe.

This is not necessarily bad news. Some scientists suggest that global warming could actually be good for us. They suggest that rising temperatures could cause ice sheet melt faster, leading to floods that flush out toxic chemicals from soil and bodies.

But others warn that this theory sounds like a plot from a science fiction movie.

Is there an Hollywood blacklist?

There is a Hollywood blacklist.

But, the list has not been made public. As far as we are aware, the names are not even known. But here's why it matters.

The reason behind the secrecy was that blacklisted directors and actors wouldn't be able find work. So they'd go out of business, which means that the studios would lose money. They would also cut back on their spending on movies. This would lead to fewer opportunities and less money for blacklisted directors. Which would lead them to go bankrupt.

This could mean more victims.

In short, when someone tries to make an oscar winning movie, they might be asked to sign a contract saying they won't speak publicly against their employers. The same goes for any director or producer who wants to get nominated for an award.

You hear stories of directors being pressured to remove scenes from films. Or how directors threaten to walk away from projects that don't fit their vision.

This is why Hollywood has created a blacklist. If you make negative comments about your employer, it's likely that you will be unemployed. This is bad news for anyone.

The problem is that many people have been falsely accused. It's been a struggle to get their names cleared.

We must stop this from happening again. We must ensure that everyone has the right to express themselves freely.

We must get rid of the Hollywood blacklist.

How To

American history's secret societies and clubs

American History is fascinating because of many reasons. Their mystery is just one reason. A second reason is their impact on society.

Secret societies and clubs have been used throughout America's history to promote ideas that would otherwise be considered taboo. Anti-Semitism, racism, and other ideas are just a few of the many examples. These groups also helped spread political ideologies such as communism and socialism.

The Ku Klux Klan is America's most well-known organization. This group was created in 1865 after the Civil War. Its purpose is to protect white people from African Americans.

Other organizations established during this period were the Knights Templars and Freemasons. They all had similar goals and beliefs.

Another interesting aspect of secret societies is that they often had memberships restricted to males only. Some women were members of these secret societies. These women included Emma Goldman. Margaret Sanger and Susan B Anthony.

The ideals shared by the secret societies mentioned earlier were not shared by all. The Order of Skull & Bones, for example, was established in 1832. Their goal, however, was to create an elite section within the United States.
