FAQ

How does the brain control the functions in your body?

To ensure that they work together, messages are sent by the brain to other organs. Everything that happens within your body is controlled by the brain. It tells you your stomach to digest food; your lungs to inhale air; and it tells you your arms and legs how to move.

Your brain is made of billions, or neurons, of nerve cells. Neurons communicate with each other by sending electrical signals called action potentials on axons. Each neuron has a cell membrane surrounding its nucleus. The cell membrane houses channels that allow ions, such as potassium and sodium, to enter and exit the cells. Ion movement creates the electric charge that causes the neuron to fire.

Neurotransmitters, which are chemicals that release neurotransmitters when a neuron fires up, can be found in the space between the neurons and the next one. Neurotransmitters bind to receptors on the second neuron, opening ion channels so ions can pass in and out of the channel. As a result, the second neuron fires too.

When a presynaptic nerve receives an impulse, neurotransmitter release takes place. An impulse travels along a synaptic link between the two neuron. The transmitter binds to receptors on the postsynaptic neuron, triggering the firing of the postsynaptic neuron.

Neurotransmitters are important for communication within the nervous system. They also coordinate activity between different brain parts.

These 5 facts are amazing about the liver

The liver is responsible both for breaking down toxins as well as storing vitamins, minerals. It helps to regulate blood pressure and keep our bodies temperature stable.

Are you familiar with the expressions, "I feel sluggish today", or "my head feels heavy"? These symptoms may indicate problems with the liver.

You may notice symptoms such as dark urine, yellowing skin and fatigue. These aren't all warning signs. You should immediately consult your doctor if you have any of these symptoms.

The liver is an important organ. It is vital for detoxification, metabolism, immunity, reproduction, and digestion.

  1. The average adult human liver weighs approximately 1,400 grams.
  2. The size of a baby's liver at birth is approximately half that of an adult. By age three, it is about four times larger than that of an infant.
  3. The liver can be found on the left side of your abdomen, just below the lower rib cage.
  4. The liver has 16 main lobes, with many smaller lobules within the lobes.

Have you ever wondered what amount of trash is generated each day worldwide?

According to the United Nations, the average person produces over 2.5 pounds of daily waste. That adds up to over 25 billion pounds of garbage per year!

Many of this trash ends in landfill dumps, or incinerators. But what happens if those dumpsters are full? Most of that trash is shipped out of the country. It then gets dumped in foreign countries, polluting their ecosystems. However, now we know where all that trash goes. Mike Sexton is his nickname. He runs Waste Watchers, a company that monitors the movements of trucks carrying trash all across North America. He reports back to us about the next steps.

Sexton claims he is very satisfied with his job. CNN spoke with Sexton that they have a lot fun. "You know, we see these big rigs come through town, and we'll follow them. "Sexton began following truck drivers almost 20 years ago.

He stated, "I just fell in Love with It."

Sexton's favorite story was about a driver who stopped at an abandoned gas station in Los Angeles. Sexton described, "The guy was looking somewhere to put his load." "He drove down the road to see this building. So he pulled over and went inside. "There were 2 large containers that had been rolled off, and they were full of stuff. The guy took everything out and started filling up the truck again. "Then he looked at the place and decided to unload everything. There were tires, rags. furniture, mattresses. boxes, bottles, cans. "It was just an absolute mess. It had been cleaned up before he arrived. There was no trash."

This begs the question: Why? The answer is that this location was once part of a recycling facility. People who knew about it would drive to this location to recycle their garbage. Sexton explained that they would bring household items and take them to the building. Then, after they were done, they would empty the containers.

This could happen hundreds of time per week. This could happen hundreds times per week. Finally, the truck stops running completely due to its excessive junk. The owner finally decides to stop using the truck.

Trash isn’t the only problem we face on the planet.

These tiny plastic particles make up the majority of the particles. Some end up in incinerators or landfills. Some are washed into rivers and oceans. Others end up with fish in their stomachs.

Experts warn that if there is no change, the world could soon be facing a food shortage. Experts warn that "if we keep going the way we are, we're not going make it," although scientists agree that the world is heading toward disaster. Most people, however, don't seem to be concerned.

Which is the most mysterious spot on Earth?

Antarctica is the most mysterious continent on Earth.

What is it that makes this place so interesting? It is unlike any other place on Earth.

It is isolated, remote, and very hard to visit. However, there's more to this location than meets the eye.

Some of the most bizarre wildlife species can also be found in this natural wonder.

Let's look at how this extraordinary destination became so mysterious.

Antarctica: The South Pole

It is not known why Antarctica was called Antarctica. Others believe it means "land with ice". Others believe it derives from Greek mythology.

In ancient Greece, Antarktis was the name given to the island where Zeus' twin brothers were born. According to legend, one of the twins was born in winter. Thus, the term antarctic.

Others believe the name was derived from the Greek words tropos, which means turn, and anti, meaning against. This would signify land turned away the sun.

Whatever the reason Antarctica has always been a fascination for people.

It is the coldest, windiest, driest and highest continent. Because it is too frigid, there are no trees, animals, or plants.

And yet, this frozen wasteland is teeming with life.

It houses approximately 90% of all Earth's living organisms. Here are approximately 50% of all the animal and plant species in the world.

What is it that makes Antarctica so unique? Here water freezes to ice and not evaporates into the atmosphere.

This causes large amounts of ice to float above ground.

These floating glaciers cover over 80%. They're getting bigger every year.

The Antarctic ice sheet has grown 60ft since 1960.

If the melting continues, sea level could rise up to 200ft. It could result in massive flooding all over the world.

But not everyone thinks this is bad news. Global warming may be beneficial for some scientists. They believe that global warming will lead to melting ice sheets faster and floods that can flush toxic chemicals out of our soils and bodies.

However, others caution that this theory sounds a lot like a plot in a science fiction movie.
