He is the owner of Waste Watchers. His job involves monitoring the movements and routes of trash trucks across North America. He then reports back about what happens next.
Sexton said he enjoys his job. CNN asked Sexton if he thought it was a lot of fun. "We see big rigs coming through town and we'll follow them. "Sexton began following truck drivers almost 20 years ago.
He said, "I fell in love with it."
Sexton's favorite story was about a driver who stopped at an abandoned gas station in Los Angeles. Sexton remembered, "The man was looking for somewhere to put the load." "He drove along the road and saw this structure. He stopped and pulled up, then he went inside. "There were 2 large containers that had been rolled off, and they were full of stuff. The man got everything out of the truck and began filling it up again. "Then, he took everything out and started filling up the truck again. There were many old tires, furniture, rags and mattresses. "It was just total chaos. But it had been cleared out before he arrived. There wasn't any trash."
This begs the question: Why? This particular spot used to be a recycling center. People would drive there to recycle their trash. "They'd bring their household items and take them to this building," Sexton explained.And after they finished, they would leave the empty containers behind.
Now, because of the way the law works, once a container reaches its destination, it cannot be opened.So no matter how often someone takes something out of it, the thing will never be emptied.Every time the truck comes by, it has to start over again. This could happen hundreds times per week. Finally, the truck stops running completely due to its excessive junk. The owner finally decides to stop using the truck.
However, trash is not the only problem on our planet.
Many of these tiny plastic pieces end up in landfills and incinerators. Some of these plastics end up in rivers or oceans.
Experts warn that the world may soon face a shortage of food if we don't make any changes. One expert said, "If we keep going as we are going, we're never going to make it," but most people don’t seem concerned.
