Although he currently occupies the title of my snobbish books club, I've found he is capable enough of stifling my naysayer. Therefore, he is my nominee for the naysayer-of-the-year award. The above-mentioned slacker is sure to be a happy camper. This slacker isn't the only one. The above-mentioned lacker is currently in a bad mood so he is prime candidate of my good ol’time slackers of the year award.

FAQ

Is there a more mysterious place than the Earth itself?

Antarctica is the world's most mysterious place on Earth.

What is it that makes this place so interesting? Because it is unlike any other spot on Earth.

It is isolated, remote, and very hard to visit. There is much more to this place than meets the eyes.

This natural wonder is also home to some of the strangest wildlife species.

Let's find out how this mysterious destination became so famous.

Antarctica: The South Pole

Antarctica's name is a mystery. Some believe it is "land of the ice". Others believe it comes from Greek mythology.

Antarktis is the name Antarktis was given to an island in ancient Greece by Zeus' twin brothers. One of the twins was said to have been born in winter. Thus, the term antarctic.

Others believe that it is the Greek word anti, which means against, and tropos, which refers to turning. This would signify land turned away the sun.

Whatever the reason Antarctica has held a special fascination for people, it is undeniable.

It is the driest, windiest of all continents. Because it is so cold, there aren't any trees, plants or animals.

And yet, this frozen wasteland is teeming with life.

It is home to approximately 90 percent of all life on Earth. There are about 50% of the world's animal, plant and plant species.

And what makes Antarctica such a unique environment? Here water freezes to ice and not evaporates into the atmosphere.

This creates large masses of ice that float above the ground.

These floating glaciers cover over 80%. And they're growing larger every year.

So far, the Antarctic ice sheet has grown 60 feet since 1960.

If the melting continues, the sea level will rise by up to 200 feet. That could cause massive flooding around the globe.

Not everyone believes this is bad news. Global warming may be beneficial for some scientists. According to scientists, global warming could be good for us because the melting of the ice sheets will accelerate, which can lead to floods that release toxic chemicals into our soil and bodies.

Others cautioned that this theory sounds too science fiction.

Ever wonder how much trash gets produced each day around the world?

The United Nations estimates that the average person generates more than 2.5 pounds of waste each day. This adds up to over 25 million pounds of garbage annually!

Most of this trash ends up in landfill dumps or incinerators. But what happens when those dumpsters get full? It goes to the United States, where most of it is exported. It then gets dumped in foreign countries, polluting their ecosystems. However, now we know where all that trash goes. Mike Sexton is his full name. He is the owner of Waste Watchers. His job involves monitoring the movements and routes of trash trucks across North America. Then he reports back to us about what happens next.

Sexton claims he is very satisfied with his job. CNN's Sexton said, "We have a lot to enjoy." "We see big rigs coming through town and we'll follow them. "Sexton started following truck driver almost 20 years back.

"It's all I felt," he stated.

His favorite story is about a driver that pulled into an abandoned gas station just outside Los Angeles. Sexton described, "The guy was looking somewhere to put his load." "He drove down the road to see this building. So he pulled over and went inside. "There were two huge roll-off containers there filled with stuff. The man removed everything from the truck and started to load it again. He then looked around and decided to load everything. There were a bunch of old tires, rags, furniture, mattresses, boxes, bottles, cans, and whatever else. "It was just an absolute mess. But it was cleaned out before he came. There was no trash."

So why did this happen? This particular spot used to be a recycling center. People would drive there to recycle their trash. Sexton explained that people would bring home their household items, and then take them to the building. After they were done, they would dispose of the empty containers.

Now, because of the way the law works, once a container reaches its destination, it cannot be opened. So no matter how often someone takes something out of it, the thing will never be emptied.Every time the truck comes by, it has to start over again. It could happen hundreds of thousands of times a week. The truck eventually stops running because it has become so jammed with junk. The owner finally decides to stop using the truck.

Trash, however, isn't the only problem facing our planet. As you may have noticed, things are getting worse.According to experts, pollution levels have risen dramatically in recent years.More than half of all water bodies on Earth are polluted.Pollution from industrial chemicals has increased by more than 30 percent since 1980.Even the air we breathe is becoming increasingly toxic.A study by the World Health Organization found that the average person inhales around 100 million particles daily.

Most of these particles are made up of tiny pieces of plastic. Some of these plastics end up in landfills or incinerators. Others end up in rivers, oceans or the stomachss of fish.

Experts warn that if there is no change, the world could soon be facing a food shortage. "If we keep going like we're going, we're not going to make it," one expert warned. But even though scientists agree that the world is headed toward disaster, most people don't seem worried.

How does your brain control the functions within your body?

To ensure that they work together, messages are sent by the brain to other organs. Everything in your body is controlled and managed by your brain. It tells the stomach to digest food, and the lungs to breath air. It also tells your legs and arms to move.

Your brain is composed of billions and billions nerve cells, connected in groups called neurons. Action potentials are electrical signals that neurons send to one another. Each neuron is covered by a cell membrane. Inside the membrane are channels that allow ions such as sodium and potassium to enter and leave the cell. The electric charge that causes the neuron's fire is created by ion movement.

When a neuron fires, chemicals called neurotransmitters are released into the space between the neuron and the next neuron. Neurotransmitters are able to bind to receptors in the second neuron. This opens ion channels that allow ions to flow in and out. As a result, second neuron fires as well.

Neurotransmitter release occurs when the presynaptic neuron receives an impulse from another neuron. The impulse travels along the synapse connecting the two neurons. The transmitter binds to receptors on the postsynaptic neuron, triggering the firing of the postsynaptic neuron.

The nervous system relies on neurotransmitters for communication. They also coordinate activity between different brain parts.

What is the most intriguing fact about the human anatomy?

We have two eyes and two ears, two nostrils each, four limbs, four limbs and a penis. It's true, we have more 50 parts of our body, but there is one thing missing. A heart.

A heart is a pump, which circulates blood throughout our bodies. The blood moves through the arteries and veins to transport oxygen and nutrients into the cells, and remove carbon dioxide.

The heart pumps out about 5 liters per minute. This is equivalent to a person drinking 2-3 cups coffee daily.

Blood flows through the heart 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. While you sleep, your heart beats almost 100 times per minute.

The color of someone's skin can tell if they are healthy or not. If you examine the skin closely, you will see tiny blood vessels called capillaries. These vessels carry blood away to the heart via the large blood vessels. The skin becomes blue-colored or purple when blood flow is restricted.

Red blood cells are missing in people with sickle-cell disease. Patients with sickle cell disease have their blood become sticky and harden, leading to severe illness.

You can use a bandage to stop bleeding if your cut is severe. Blood must flow in order for the wound to heal properly. To do this, doctors insert a needle through the skin into the vein next to the injury. This allows the blood to drain from the injured area.

A doctor can also insert tubes (catheters), into an artery in the vicinity of where blood clots form. This keeps the patient alive till the blood clot dissolves naturally.
