FAQ

How does your brain control your body's functions?

To ensure that they work together, messages are sent by the brain to other organs. Everything in your body is controlled and managed by your brain. It tells your stomach how to digest food and your lungs how to inhale oxygen; it also tells your arms, legs and feet to move.

Your brain is made of billions, or neurons, of nerve cells. Action potentials, which are electrical signals sent by neurons to each other via axons, allow them to communicate with one another. Every neuron has a cell wall around its nucleus. Inside the membrane are channels that allow ions such as sodium and potassium to enter and leave the cell. Ion movement is what causes the neurons to fire.

When a neuron is activated, neurotransmitters release chemicals into the space between it and the next neuron. Neurotransmitters are able to bind to receptors in the second neuron. This opens ion channels that allow ions to flow in and out. As a result, the second neuron fires too.

Neurotransmitter release occurs when the presynaptic neuron receives an impulse from another neuron. An impulse travels along a synapse that connects the two neurons. The transmitter binds at the receptors of the post-synaptic Neuron and triggers its firing.

Neurotransmitters are important for communication within the nervous system. They coordinate brain activity among different parts.

What is one of the most amazing facts about the human body

We have two eyes and two ears, two nostrils each, four limbs, four limbs and a penis. You're correct, there are more than 50 parts in our bodies. But, one thing is missing. The heart.

The heart is a pump which circulates blood throughout the body. The blood flows through the veins and arteries to carry oxygen and nutrients to the cells.

Each minute, the heart pumps approximately 5 liters. This is equivalent to an adult consuming 2-3 cups of coffee per day.

The heart pumps blood 24 hours a days, 365 days per year. While sleeping, your heart beats close to 100 times per minute.

You can tell whether someone is healthy or unhealthy because of the color of their skin. Capillaries are tiny blood vessels visible on the skin's surface. These vessels carry blood away to the heart via the large blood vessels. The skin becomes blue-colored or purple when blood flow is restricted.

People with sickle cells lack red blood cell. Their blood becomes extremely sticky and hardened, which can lead to very serious illnesses.

To stop bleeding from a cut, you can apply a bandage to the wound. For the wound to heal properly, blood must continue to flow. Doctors insert a needle into the injured area through the skin. This allows the blood from the injured area to drain.

A doctor can also insert tubes (catheters), into an artery in the vicinity of where blood clots form. This keeps the patient alive until the clot breaks up naturally.

Which is the most mysterious spot on Earth?

Antarctica is considered the most mysterious area on Earth.

Why is this place so amazing? Because it is unlike anything else on Earth.

It is isolated, remote, and very hard to visit. There is much more to this place than meets the eyes.

You will also find some of the oddest wildlife species in this natural wonder.

Let's find out how this mysterious destination became so famous.

Antarctica: The South Pole

No one knows exactly why Antarctica was named Antarctica. Some say it means "land on ice." Others believe it comes out of Greek mythology.

Antarktis was an ancient Greek name that was given to the island where Zeus and his twin brothers, Zeus. According to legend, one twin was born in winter. This is why the word "antarctic" was chosen.

Others believe that the name comes from the Greek words anti meaning against and tropos meaning to turn. This would signify land turned away the sun.

No matter the reason, Antarctica is a place that has always fascinated people.

It is the continent with the lowest, windiest and highest temperatures. It is too cold to support trees, plants, and animals.

Yet, life is abundant in this frozen wilderness.

It houses approximately 90% of all Earth's living organisms. About 50% of the world's plant and animal species can be found here.

What is it that makes Antarctica so unique? Here, water freezes in ice rather that vaporizing into the atmosphere.

This results in large masses of ice floating above the ground.

These glaciers are responsible for covering 80% of the continent. And they're growing larger every year.

Since 1960, the Antarctic ice sheets has grown 60ft.

If the melting goes on, the sea level may rise by as much as 200 feet. This could lead to massive flooding across the globe.

This is not necessarily bad news. Some scientists believe that global warming can be beneficial. They suggest that rising temperatures could cause ice sheet melt faster, leading to floods that flush out toxic chemicals from soil and bodies.

However, others caution that this theory sounds a lot like a plot in a science fiction movie.

Do you wonder how much trash is produced each day across the globe?

According to the United Nations the average person creates more than 2.5 lbs of waste daily. That adds up over 25 billion kilos of garbage every year.

Many of this trash ends in landfill dumps, or incinerators. But what happens if those dumpsters are full? Most of that trash is shipped out of the country. The rest is dumped abroad, where it pollutes other ecosystems. Now, we know the exact location of all this garbage. Mike Sexton is his full name. He is the founder of Waste Watchers. He watches over trucks that transport trash across North America. He reports back to us about the next steps.

Sexton stated that he finds the job very satisfying. "We've got a lot of fun," he told CNN. "We see these big trucks coming through town, so we'll keep following them. "Sexton began following truckers almost 20 year ago.

"I just fell in love with it," he said.

His favorite story involved a driver who pulled off at an abandoned gas station near Los Angeles. Sexton described, "The guy was looking somewhere to put his load." "He saw the building as he drove down the road. So he backed up and went inside. "There were 2 large containers that had been rolled off, and they were full of stuff. He took out everything and began to fill up the truck. "Then, he took everything out and started filling up the truck again. There were old tires and rags, furniture pieces, mattresses, mattresses and boxes. "It was just total chaos. It had been cleaned up before he arrived. There wasn't any trash anywhere."

What is the explanation? It's because this area used to be a recycle center. People would drive from all over the country to recycle their trash. Sexton said that people would bring their household items to the building and then leave empty containers behind.

You might see this happen hundreds of times a day. This can happen hundreds of times a week.Eventually, the truck becomes so overloaded with junk that it stops running. The owner finally decides to stop using the truck.

Trash, however, isn't the only problem facing our planet. As you may have noticed, things are getting worse.According to experts, pollution levels have risen dramatically in recent years.More than half of all water bodies on Earth are polluted.Pollution from industrial chemicals has increased by more than 30 percent since 1980.Even the air we breathe is becoming increasingly toxic.A study by the World Health Organization found that the average person inhales around 100 million particles daily.

Many of these tiny plastic pieces end up in landfills and incinerators. Others end up in rivers, oceans or the stomachss of fish.

Experts warn that if there is no change, the world could soon be facing a food shortage. Experts warn, "If you keep going like you're going," we could soon face a global food shortage. But most people don't seem to be worried, even though scientists are unanimous in warning us that the world is heading towards disaster.
