What Was the Secret War in Laos?

facts about dying

Laos was an Indochina-controlled territory for many decades. The United States entered the Vietnam War, in 1961. Shortly thereafter, a secret war was fought in Laos. The CIA led a covert operation against the communist Pathet Lao.

The mission of CIA in Laos consisted of fighting the communist threat to the country. However, the agency also recruited tens upon thousands of Hmong fighters. This was a guerrilla war with a humanitarian component. The Special Guerrilla Unit, a special force that was trained in southern Laos, was also named. These units were used to attack North Vietnamese soldiers. These units were defeated in the end and the United States was forced to withdraw from Laos.

This secret war in Laos was first in CIA history. Its cost was equivalent to $3Billion today. Also, the number of CIA contractors living in the country grew by 2000% in the past decade.

Thousands of pro-American Laos were killed or forced to live in prison camps. Others were escorted into the jungle with guards. Some families were destroyed permanently. Those who survived were allowed to continue their lives in caves or fields at night.

fun facts about death

Sometimes the CIA managed the battle strategy. Most of the time however, it was left to locals. Many villages were destroyed, killing thousands of civilians by CIA air strikes.

Tens of thousands of Lao patriots were killed during the "Secret War." After the war, the United States withdrew from South Vietnam, and Laos lost its financial support from the United States. The CIA couldn't continue to function as before.

Thus, the CIA decided that a clandestine Hmong army would be built. It was a way to avoid the prohibition of direct military assistance in Geneva Accords. Many Laos thought the Communists were trying take over the nation. But they resisted.

During wartime, the CIA created "Lima Sites," ports of entry in the country, to help Hmong troops move and get supplies. LS-36 was the most notable Lima Site. Another noteworthy site was LS-20A.

The CIA eventually decided to evacuate Laos following the war. The United States ended its military and financial support for Laos after the Paris Peace Treaty was signed, ending the Vietnam War. The CIA's operation to end the Vietnam War in Laos was a success. The CIA also helped to stop the spread communism in Laos.

Have you ever wondered what amount of trash is generated each day worldwide?

The United Nations estimates that the average person generates more than 2.5 pounds of waste each day. This adds up to over 25 million pounds of garbage annually!

Most of the trash ends up at incinerators and landfills. But, what happens to those dumpsters? All that trash ends up being shipped out of country. It is then shipped out and dumped in other countries. This pollutes the ecosystems. But now we know, thanks to one man. Mike Sexton is his full name. He runs a company called Waste Watchers. He spends his days watching the movements of trucks transporting trash across North America. Then he reports back to us about what happens next.

Sexton stated that he finds the job very satisfying. CNN spoke with Sexton that they have a lot fun. "We often see large rigs passing through our town and we will follow them. "Sexton began following truckers almost 20 year ago.

"I just fell in love with it," he said.

His favorite story is about a driver that pulled into an abandoned gas station just outside Los Angeles. Sexton remembered, "The man was looking for somewhere to put the load." "He drove down the road and saw this building. He pulled over and went in. "There were two enormous roll-off containers filled with stuff. The man got everything out of the truck and began filling it up again. "Then, he took everything out and started filling up the truck again. There were many old tires, furniture, rags and mattresses. "It was just an absolute mess. It had been cleaned up before he arrived. There was not a single piece of trash.

This is the reason why it happened. It is because the location used to belong to a recycling centre. People who found out about this facility would drive to it to recycle their trash. Sexton explained, "They would bring their household goods and take them here," and they would then empty the containers.

This could happen hundreds of time per week. This could happen hundreds times per week. Finally, the truck stops running completely due to its excessive junk. The truck eventually stops running and the owner decides that it is time to get rid of the vehicle.

However, trash is not the only problem on our planet.

The majority of these particles are made of small pieces of plastic. Others get washed into rivers or oceans. And when they reach the ocean, they often end up in the stomachs of fish.

Experts warn of a possible global food crisis if nothing is done. Experts warn that if we continue to go the same way, we won't make it. However, scientists and most people aren't worried.

Which is the most mysterious spot on Earth?

Antarctica is one of the most mysterious places on Earth.

This is why we find it so captivating. Because it is unlike any place on Earth.

It is remote, isolated, and extremely difficult to visit. This site has more to it than meets your eye.

You'll also find the strangest species of wildlife in this natural wonder.

Let's find out how this mysterious destination became so famous.

Antarctica, The South Pole

Antarctica is named for no one. Some believe it refers to "land of ice". Others believe it comes out of Greek mythology.

Antarktis in ancient Greece was the name given the island where Zeus' twin brother brothers were born. According to some legends, one of these twins was born in winter. Hence, the word antarctic.

Others believe the name was derived from the Greek words tropos, which means turn, and anti, meaning against. This would be land turned away form the sun.

Whatever the reason Antarctica has held a special fascination for people, it is undeniable.

It is the highest, coldest, windiest, dryest, and most populated continent. Because it is too frigid, there are no trees, animals, or plants.

And yet, this frozen wasteland is teeming with life.

About 90 percent of all living things on Earth live here. You can find approximately half the world's species of animal and plant plants here.

What is it that makes Antarctica so unique? Here, water freezes in ice rather that vaporizing into the atmosphere.

This causes large amounts of ice to float above ground.

These floating glaciers cover 80% of the continent. And they're growing larger every year.

The Antarctic Ice Sheet has grown 60 feet in the past 60 years.

If the melting continues, the sea level will rise by up to 200 feet. This could lead to massive flooding across the globe.

This does not mean that everyone is wrong. Global warming may be beneficial for some scientists. They believe that global warming will lead to melting ice sheets faster and floods that can flush toxic chemicals out of our soils and bodies.

However, others caution that this theory sounds a lot like a plot in a science fiction movie.

What is the most secretive location in the entire world?

The answer may shock you. It may even make it uncomfortable, as it challenges our perceptions of reality and our lives. But there is a reason why this place exists. And it is not what you would expect.

The ancient Greeks called it the City of God. According to the Bible, it was called the City of Destruction.

It's also known as Kashi (Kashmir) in India. It is also called Novgorod in Russia.

Here in America, however, it is called The Village That Disappeared.

One tiny town in western New York State lost its 1,200 inhabitants without trace. With the exception of a road marker pointing to its former site, there were no remains: cars, bodies, houses.

This tiny community disappeared without leaving any clues as to where it went or when. Some say the earth swallowed it up. Others claim that a meteorite hit destroyed it. Others claim it was taken away by aliens.

The people of this once-thriving community, however, are positive that the town won't disappear forever. They had just moved to another town.

Even a website exists to help track down the disappearances of the lost city Zugspitz.

So where is this town? It's in Switzerland, actually!

The border of Austria and Germany is at Zugspitze. A huge lake, Lake Zugspitze, is located just beyond the summit.

It has always fascinated me that so many towns have disappeared, yet some still remain. Why do some disappear while others survive? I decided to investigate.

I was curious about the disappearing towns. Is it possible for a place to vanish? How can a town disappear from existence?

There are many theories to explain the phenomenon of disappearing towns. One theory suggests that a community disappears when all of its buildings are removed. Another theory suggests that the town simply moves somewhere else. The third theory is that the town was never actually there.

No matter what theories you may have, there is no doubt that many towns across the globe were swallowed by the ground. This video examines the history and current status of these places.
