No matter whether you're a fan of paranormal phenomena or just a casual history buff, you should know some frightening facts about history. Cryonics (sleepwalking defense), Hauntings, and Arrhythmic Death Syndrome are some of the topics. These topics can be quite scary, but others can be very interesting.
Arrhythmic death syndrome
Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome is when the heart stops suddenly beating. It is a symptom of an underlying heart condition that affects the electrical system. People who experience this type of sudden cardiac death may feel confused about the cause of death or be concerned for their own health.

Cryonics
Cryonics is the concept of preserving a human body after death. It is a controversial issue currently being debated in America. Cryopreserved bodies are stored in freezers. More than 100 people were cryopreserved in 1967. Hundreds of others have made arrangements for their bodies to be frozen. Most do so via life insurance. Alcor is the world's largest cryonics group. This group is noted for its advanced technology and medical approach to cryonics.
Hauntings in the 1860s
Hauntings in 1860 were nothing new. Many people in the 1860s claimed to have seen ghostly bodies, including a Union soldier or a pair little girls. Some people claimed that ghosts were cholera patients. Others heard drum cadence.
Sleepwalking defense
The sleepwalking defense has been used as a criminal defense since 1846. It is also known as the "Twinkie defense", but it has been controversial since its inception. But, even though it is controversial, sleepwalking has been proven to be a successful defense in court. Albert Tirrell was in fact the first to successfully use the defense.
Headless chicken
Miracle Mike, or the Headless Chicken as it is commonly known, is a historical landmark. It was born in April 1945 and died 18 months later. This terrifying historical fact is today celebrated on Mike the Headless Chicken Day.

Transfusions of blood
The history of blood transfusion is a frightening one. Before the 1990s, blood and other transfusion material had not been subject to clinical trials. Therefore, blood was given to patients who were more at risk than they were benefit. Studies showed that transfusions had a negative impact on outcomes, prolonged hospital stays, and increased risks of developing certain post-operative infections. Patients who received blood were more likely than others to be transferred to intensive care or ventilated.
FAQ
What is your most secretive community?
The answer to that question may shock you. This may make you feel uncomfortable as it challenges your perception of reality and the way we live. But there is an explanation for why this place exists, and it's not what you would expect.
The City of God was its name by the ancient Greeks. It was also called the City of Destruction in the Bible.
It's known in India as Kashi (Kashmir). It is called Novgorod (Russia).
However, in America it is called The Town that Disappeared.
One small community in western New York State with 1,200 residents vanished without a trace. No bodies, cars, houses, nothing was left behind except a road sign pointing to its former location.
This tiny community disappeared without leaving any clues as to where it went or when. Some claim the earth swallowed it. Others say it was destroyed in a meteorite collision. Others claim it was taken away by aliens.
Despite what may have happened, the people who lived in this once-thriving area are confident that their town will not be lost forever. They had just moved from one town to the other.
There's even a website that tracks the disappearances and recoveries of Zugspitz.
You might be wondering where this town went. It's in Switzerland.
Zugspitze lies on the border between Austria and Germany. Just beyond the summit of the mountain is a huge lake called Lake Zugspitze.
I have always been fascinated by the fact that so many towns have vanished, but some remain. Why do some disappear while others survive? I decided that I would investigate.
I was interested in learning more about these mysterious towns that are disappearing. What causes a community to disappear? What makes a place disappear?
It turns out that there are several theories about the phenomenon of vanishing towns. One theory states that a town vanishes when all its buildings are destroyed. Another theory suggests that the town simply moves somewhere else. A third theory states that the town didn't exist at all.
Although theories may be a bit speculative, it is a fact that numerous towns have been destroyed by the elements. This video examines the history and current status of these places.
What is the most mysterious place on earth?
Antarctica is one of the most mysterious places on Earth.
We find this place so fascinating. Because it is unlike any place on Earth.
It is remote, isolated, and extremely difficult to visit. It is not what you see.
You will also find some of the oddest wildlife species in this natural wonder.
Let's see how this incredible destination became famous for its mystery.
Antarctica: The South Pole
Antarctica's name is a mystery. Some believe it refers to "land of ice". Others believe it derives from Greek mythology.
Antarktis in ancient Greece was the name given the island where Zeus' twin brother brothers were born. According to legend, one twin was born in winter. Hence, the word antarctic.
Others believe that it is the Greek word anti, which means against, and tropos, which refers to turning. This would translate to land that is turned away from the sun.
Whatever the reason Antarctica holds a special fascination, people have always loved it.
It is the driest, windiest of all continents. It is too cold to support trees, plants, and animals.
And yet, this frozen wasteland is teeming with life.
It houses approximately 90% of all Earth's living organisms. You can find approximately half the world's species of animal and plant plants here.
What makes Antarctica so special? Here water freezes to ice and not evaporates into the atmosphere.
This causes large masses to form of ice which float high above the ground.
These glaciers cover more than 80% of the continent. These glaciers are getting larger each year.
The Antarctic ice sheet has grown 60ft since 1960.
If the melting continues, the sea level will rise by up to 200 feet. This could lead to massive flooding across the globe.
This is not necessarily bad news. Some scientists suggest that global warming could actually be good for us. They say that as temperatures rise, the ice sheets might melt faster, causing floods that flush out tons of toxic chemicals from our soil and bodies.
Others, however, warn that this theory sounds almost like a plot for a science fiction film.
Do you wonder how much trash is produced each day across the globe?
The United Nations states that an average person produces more than 2.5 pounds of waste per day. That's over 25 billion pounds of garbage each year!
Most of this rubbish ends up in landfills or incinerators. But, what happens when those dumpsters fill up? All that trash ends up being shipped out of country. It is then shipped out and dumped in other countries. This pollutes the ecosystems. But now we know, thanks to one man. Mike Sexton is his real name. He runs a company called Waste Watchers. He spends his days watching the movements of trucks transporting trash across North America. Then he reports back to us about what happens next.
Sexton states that he finds his work very fulfilling. CNN interviewed Sexton and said that he has a lot of fun. "You know, we see these big rigs come through town, and we'll follow them. "Sexton began following truck drivers almost 20 years ago.
"I just fell in love with it," he said.
Sexton's favorite story was about a driver who stopped at an abandoned gas station in Los Angeles. Sexton recalls, "The guy was searching for somewhere to put his loads." "He drove down the road and saw this building. He backed up and entered the building. "There were two enormous roll-off containers filled with stuff. The man got everything out of the truck and began filling it up again. "Then he looked at the place and decided to unload everything. There were many old tires, furniture, rags and mattresses. "It was just an absolute mess. But it had been cleaned out before he came along. There was not a single piece of trash.
This is the reason why it happened. This particular spot used to be a recycling center. People would drive there to recycle their trash. Sexton explained that people would bring home their household items, and then take them to the building. After they were done, they would dispose of the empty containers.
Now, because of the way the law works, once a container reaches its destination, it cannot be opened. So no matter how often someone takes something out of it, the thing will never be emptied.Every time the truck comes by, it has to start over again. This can happen hundreds of times a week.Eventually, the truck becomes so overloaded with junk that it stops running. The truck eventually stops running and the owner decides that it is time to get rid of the vehicle.
Trash is not the only problem our planet faces.
The majority of these particles are made of small pieces of plastic. Some of these plastics end up in rivers or oceans.
Experts warn that if there is no change, the world could soon be facing a food shortage. "If we keep going like we're going, we're not going to make it," one expert warned. But even though scientists agree that the world is headed toward disaster, most people don't seem worried.
What is the most fascinating fact about the human body
Two eyes, two ears and two nostrils are part of our bodies. We also have four limbs: a mouth, nose, penis, and four limbs. That's right, we have more than 50 parts of our bodies, but one thing is missing. A heart.
A heart is the pump that circulates blood throughout a body. Blood travels through the arteries and veins, carrying oxygen and nutrients to the cells and removing carbon dioxide and waste products.
The heart pumps out about 5 liters per minute. This is equivalent to an adult consuming 2-3 cups of coffee per day.
Blood flows through the heart 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Your heart beats nearly 100 times a minute while sleeping.
Because of the color and texture of their skin, you can tell if someone is healthy or sick. Looking closely at the skin's surface, you can see tiny blood vessels called capillaries. These small vessels carry blood away from the large blood vessels in the skin back to the heart. The skin becomes blue-colored or purple when blood flow is restricted.
People with sickle cells lack red blood cell. Their blood becomes extremely sticky and hardened, which can lead to very serious illnesses.
To stop bleeding from a cut, you can apply a bandage to the wound. Blood must flow in order for the wound to heal properly. Doctors place a needle in the wound and insert it through the skin. This allows blood to drain from the area.
Doctors can also insert catheters into the artery close to the area where the bloodclot has formed. This keeps the patient occupied until the clot is broken down naturally.
