FAQ
What is the most mysterious location on Earth?
Antarctica is considered the most mysterious area on Earth.
What is it that makes this place so interesting? Because it's unlike any other place in the world.
It is difficult to access because it is remote and extremely isolated. But there is more to this site than meets the eye.
You'll also find the strangest species of wildlife in this natural wonder.
Let's now see how this amazing destination came to be so well-known for its mystery.
Antarctica: The South Pole
Antarctica is named for no one. Others believe it means "land with ice". Others believe it comes from Greek mythology.
Antarktis, the Greek name for the island on which Zeus' twin brothers were conceived, was used in ancient Greece. According to legend, one twin was born in winter. Hence, the word antarctic.
Others think the name came from the Greek words anti, meaning against, and tropos meaning turn. This would signify land turned away the sun.
Whatever the reason, Antarctica has always held a special fascination for people.
It is the coldest, windiest, driest and highest continent. Because it is too frigid, there are no trees, animals, or plants.
Yet, life is abundant in this frozen wilderness.
It houses approximately 90% of all Earth's living organisms. You can find approximately half the world's species of animal and plant plants here.
What is it that makes Antarctica so unique? Here water freezes to ice and not evaporates into the atmosphere.
This results in large masses of ice floating above the ground.
These floating glaciers cover 80% of the continent. They're getting bigger every year.
Since 1960, the Antarctic ice sheets has grown 60ft.
If the melting continues, the sea level will rise by up to 200 feet. This could lead worldwide flooding.
This is not necessarily bad news. Global warming may be beneficial for some scientists. According to scientists, global warming could be good for us because the melting of the ice sheets will accelerate, which can lead to floods that release toxic chemicals into our soil and bodies.
Others, however, warn that this theory sounds almost like a plot for a science fiction film.
Which is the most secretive city in the world?
This question might surprise you. It may even make it uncomfortable, as it challenges our perceptions of reality and our lives. But there is a reason why this place exists. And it is not what you would expect.
It was called the City of God by ancient Greeks. It was called the City of Destruction by the Bible.
In India, it's called Kashi (Kashmir). It's known in Russia as Novgorod.
However, in America it is called The Town that Disappeared.
One small New York State town with just 1,200 people vanished. A road sign pointing to the former location of the town was all that was left, except for a few bodies and cars.
The little village vanished, with no trace of its existence. Some believe the earth swallowed them up. Others believe it was destroyed by a meteorite. Others believe that aliens took it.
The people of this once-thriving community, however, are positive that the town won't disappear forever. They just moved to another city.
There is even a website dedicated to tracking the disappearance of the lost city of Zugspitz.
You might be wondering where this town went. It's in Switzerland, actually!
Zugspitze is situated on the border between Germany und Austria. Lake Zugspitze lies just above the summit of the mountain.
I have always been fascinated by the fact that so many towns have vanished, but some remain. Is it possible that some towns disappear and others are preserved? I set out to find out.
I wanted more information about the mysterious disappearing of towns. What causes a town to disappear? How can one place vanish from existence?
It turned out that there are many theories about disappearing towns. One theory says that a town disappears when all the buildings are demolished. Another theory suggests that the town simply moves somewhere else. Another theory suggests that the town has never existed.
Theories aside, the fact remains that dozens of towns around the globe have been swallowed up by the ground. This video examines the history and current status of these places.
These 5 facts are amazing about the liver
The liver is responsible of breaking down toxins and storing nutrients. It also helps regulate blood pressure and keeps our body temperature stable.
Are you familiar with the expressions, "I feel sluggish today", or "my head feels heavy"? These symptoms could indicate problems with your liver.
Some common signs include dark urine, yellowing skin, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach cramps, jaundice (yellow coloration), and itching. These aren’t the only warning signs. If you experience any of them, make an appointment with your doctor immediately.
The liver is an essential organ. It is essential for detoxification and metabolism as well as reproduction.
-
The average adult liver weights about 1,400g.
-
A baby's liver is about half the size of an adult's at birth. It is four times larger by the time an infant turns three.
-
The liver is located just below the rib cage on the left side of the abdomen.
-
There are 16 major liver lobes. However there are many smaller, more intimate lobules.
-
Red blood cells make up approximately 10 million of the liver's total.
Did you know that there are approximately 1.6 billion metric tons of trash produced every day in the world?
According to the United Nations, the average person produces over 2.5 pounds of daily waste. That adds up to over 25 billion pounds of garbage per year!
Most of the trash ends up at incinerators and landfills. But, what happens to those dumpsters? Where does all that rubbish go?Well, most of it gets shipped out of the country. It is then shipped out and dumped in other countries. This pollutes the ecosystems. But now we know, thanks to one man. Mike Sexton is his nickname. He runs a company called Waste Watchers. He spends his days watching the movements of trucks transporting trash across North America. He then reports back to us on what happens next.
Sexton said he enjoys his job. CNN interviewed Sexton and said that he has a lot of fun. "We see these big trucks coming through town, so we'll keep following them. "Sexton began following truck drivers almost 20 years ago.
"I just fell in love with it," he said.
Sexton's favorite story was about a driver who stopped at an abandoned gas station in Los Angeles. Sexton described, "The guy was looking somewhere to put his load." "He drove down the street and saw this building. He backed up and entered the building. "There were two huge roll-off containers there filled with stuff. The man got everything out of the truck and began filling it up again. "The man looked around the area and decided to unload all of it. There were lots of old tires, rags furniture, mattresses, mattresses, cans, cans, and other items. "It was a complete mess. It had been cleaned up before he arrived. There wasn't any trash."
What is the explanation? It is because the location used to belong to a recycling centre. People who found out about this facility would drive to it to recycle their trash. "They'd bring their household items and take them to this building," Sexton explained. And after they finished, they would leave the empty containers behind.
You might see this happen hundreds of times a day. It could happen hundreds of thousands of times a week. The truck eventually stops running because it has become so jammed with junk. And eventually, the owner decides to abandon the vehicle.
However, trash is not the only problem on our planet.
Most of these particles are made up of tiny pieces of plastic. Some of these plastics end up in landfills or incinerators. Others get washed into rivers or oceans. And when they reach the ocean, they often end up in the stomachs of fish.
Experts say if nothing changes, we could soon face a global food shortage. Experts warn that "if we keep going the way we are, we're not going make it," although scientists agree that the world is heading toward disaster. Most people, however, don't seem to be concerned.
