FAQ
What is the most mysterious place on earth?
Antarctica is the most mysterious continent on Earth.
What is it that makes this place so interesting? Because it is unlike any other spot on Earth.
It is very remote and isolated. This site has more to it than meets your eye.
You will also find some of the oddest wildlife species in this natural wonder.
Let's look at how this extraordinary destination became so mysterious.
Antarctica: The South Pole
No one knows exactly why Antarctica was named Antarctica. Some believe it means "land of ice." Others believe it derives from Greek mythology.
Antarktis was an ancient Greek name that was given to the island where Zeus and his twin brothers, Zeus. One of the twins was said to have been born in winter. Hence, the word antarctic.
Others believe that it is the Greek word anti, which means against, and tropos, which refers to turning. This would be land turned away form the sun.
Whatever the reason Antarctica holds a special fascination, people have always loved it.
It is the highest, coldest, windiest, dryest, and most populated continent. It is too cold for trees, plants and animals.
And yet, this frozen wasteland is teeming with life.
It houses approximately 90% of all Earth's living organisms. About 50% of the world's plant and animal species can be found here.
What makes Antarctica so special? Here, water freezes in ice rather that vaporizing into the atmosphere.
This causes large masses to form of ice which float high above the ground.
These floating glaciers cover over 80%. They're getting bigger every year.
So far, the Antarctic ice sheet has grown 60 feet since 1960.
If the melting continues, sea level could rise up to 200ft. It could result in massive flooding all over the world.
But not everyone thinks this is bad news. Global warming may be beneficial for some scientists. They claim that the melting of ice sheets could accelerate as temperatures rise. This would lead to flooding that removes tons of toxic chemicals and soil from our bodies.
However, others caution that this theory sounds a lot like a plot in a science fiction movie.
What is the most secretive place in the world, and why?
This question might surprise you. This may make you feel uncomfortable as it challenges your perception of reality and the way we live. There is a reason this place exists and it's not as you might expect.
It was called the City of God by ancient Greeks. It was called the City of Destruction by the Bible.
It's known in India as Kashi (Kashmir). It is called Novgorod (Russia).
It is known as The Town That Disappeared in America.
One small New York State town with just 1,200 people vanished. There were no bodies, cars or houses left behind, but a road sign that pointed to the former location was all that was left.
This tiny community disappeared without leaving any clues as to where it went or when. Some claim the earth swallowed it. Some claim it was destroyed by a meteorite impact. Some claim that it was destroyed by a meteorite strike. Others still believe it was stolen away by aliens.
The people of this once-thriving community, however, are positive that the town won't disappear forever. They had just moved to a new town.
Even a website exists to help track down the disappearances of the lost city Zugspitz.
The question is, where did this place go? It's actually in Switzerland!
The border of Austria and Germany is at Zugspitze. A huge lake, Lake Zugspitze, is located just beyond the summit.
It's always fascinated me how so many towns disappear, yet others remain. Why is it that some disappear while others live on? I decided that I would investigate.
I wanted more information about the mysterious disappearing of towns. Is it possible for a place to vanish? How can a town disappear from existence?
There are many theories regarding the phenomenon of towns disappearing. One theory suggests that a community disappears when all of its buildings are removed. Another theory holds that the town simply relocates to another location. Another theory suggests that the town has never existed.
There are many theories, but the truth is that thousands of towns around the world have been submerged by the earth. This video examines the past and present status of these areas.
What is the most surprising fact about your body?
There are two eyes, two ears. Two nostrils. Four limbs. A mouth, nose and penis. Yes, more than 50 parts to our bodies. But one thing is missing. The heart.
A heart is a pump that circulates blood throughout the body. The blood moves through the veins. It transports oxygen and nutrients to your cells. It also removes carbon dioxide.
Each minute, the heart pumps approximately 5 liters. This is equivalent to a person drinking 2-3 cups coffee daily.
Blood flows throughout the heart 24 hours per day, 365 Days a Year. While you sleep, your heart beats almost 100 times per minute.
Color of your skin is a good indicator of whether someone is healthy. Capillaries are tiny blood vessels visible on the skin's surface. These tiny vessels transport blood from the larger blood vessels to the heart. If blood flow is blocked, skin can turn blue or purple.
People suffering from sickle cell disease have no red blood cells. Their blood becomes extremely sticky and hardened, which can lead to very serious illnesses.
If you cut yourself, a bandage is applied to stop the bleeding. For wounds to heal properly, blood must flow. To do this, doctors insert a needle through the skin into the vein next to the injury. This allows the blood to drain from the injured area.
Doctors also insert tubes (catheters) into the artery near the site where the blood clot forms. This keeps the patient alive until the clot breaks up naturally.
Do you wonder how much trash is produced each day across the globe?
The United Nations states that an average person produces more than 2.5 pounds of waste per day. That's over 25 billion pounds of garbage each year!
Many of this trash ends in landfill dumps, or incinerators. But what happens if those dumpsters are full? Most of that trash is shipped out of the country. It is then dumped in other countries, where it pollutes their ecosystems. But now, thanks to the work of one man, we know exactly where all this trash goes. Mike Sexton is his full name. He is the owner of Waste Watchers. His job involves monitoring the movements and routes of trash trucks across North America. He then reports back about what happens next.
Sexton says he finds his job very satisfying. "We've got a lot of fun," he told CNN. "We see big rigs coming through town and we'll follow them. "Sexton began to follow truck drivers around 20 years ago.
"It's all I felt," he stated.
His favorite story is about a driver that pulled into an abandoned gas station just outside Los Angeles. Sexton said that the man was searching for a place to store his stuff. "He drove down the road and saw this building. He backed up and entered the building. "There were two large roll-off containers full of stuff. He took out everything and began to fill up the truck. He then looked around and decided to load everything. There were old tires and rags, furniture pieces, mattresses, mattresses and boxes. "It was just a total mess. It had been cleaned up before he arrived. There was no trash."
What is the explanation? The answer is that this location was once part of a recycling facility. People who knew about it would drive to this location to recycle their garbage. Sexton said that people would bring their household items to the building and then leave empty containers behind.
This can happen hundreds of times a week. It could happen hundreds of thousands of times a week. The truck eventually stops running because it has become so jammed with junk. The owner eventually decides to dump the truck.
Trash, however, isn't the only problem facing our planet. As you may have noticed, things are getting worse.According to experts, pollution levels have risen dramatically in recent years.More than half of all water bodies on Earth are polluted.Pollution from industrial chemicals has increased by more than 30 percent since 1980.Even the air we breathe is becoming increasingly toxic.A study by the World Health Organization found that the average person inhales around 100 million particles daily.
These tiny plastic particles make up the majority of the particles. Some end up in incinerators or landfills. Some of these plastics end up in rivers or oceans.
Experts warn that the world may soon face a shortage of food if we don't make any changes. Experts warn that "if we keep going the way we are, we're not going make it," although scientists agree that the world is heading toward disaster. Most people, however, don't seem to be concerned.
