James Murray, currently the director of the United States Secret Service after 30 years, will be leaving his post. A source claims that he will join Snap Inc. and report directly at its CEO Evan Spiegel.
Murray worked as an investigator and special agent over his 27-year career. He was also a deputy director of protective operations and a director. Murray was the 26th Director of the Secret Service and will be retiring on July 30, 2022.
During his time with the Secret Service, Murray was involved in the planning and coordination of the agency's global protective mission, including the investigations of threats to presidential candidates and transitions. Murray was also responsible for the Secret Service’s investigation into financial crimes and its response to COVID-19.
Murray has also been involved on numerous other projects. Murray appeared as Elizabeth I in the Billy the Kid/Elizabeth I episode on "Drunk History: UK", (2017). While there are a number of recent scandals surrounding the Secret Service, the departure of Murray is a result of his desire to pursue other projects outside of the government. After taking the position of director, Murray worked to professionalize the Secret Service. One of his achievements was the ability to set up mobile devices as factory settings in a three-month long system migration. Murray's transition into the private sector will take place in August, and his last day with the Secret Service is expected to be July 30. His next step will be as the head of security for Snapchat.
