FAQ
What is the most interesting fact about the human body?
We have two eyes, two ears, two nostrils, four limbs, a mouth, a nose, and a penis. That's right, we have more than 50 parts of our bodies, but one thing is missing. The heart.
A heart is a pump that circulates blood throughout the body. Blood travels through the arteries and veins, carrying oxygen and nutrients to the cells and removing carbon dioxide and waste products.
Each minute, the heart pumps 5 liters of blood. This is equivalent in daily coffee consumption to an adult who consumes approximately 2 to 3 cups.
The blood flows throughout the heart 24/7, 365 days a calendar. While sleeping, your heart beats close to 100 times per minute.
Because of the color and texture of their skin, you can tell if someone is healthy or sick. The capillaries are tiny blood vessels that can be seen on the skin's surface. These small vessels carry blood from the large blood vessel in the skin back towards the heart. The skin turns purple or blue when there is a blockage in blood flow.
Red blood cells are not available to sickle cell patients. Their blood becomes extremely sticky and hardened, which can lead to very serious illnesses.
A bandage can be used to stop bleeding if you have cut your own skin. The wound must remain open for blood to flow properly. To do this, doctors insert a needle through the skin into the vein next to the injury. This allows blood flow to the area that has been injured.
Doctors also insert tubes (catheters) into the artery near the site where the blood clot forms. This keeps patients alive until the clot has broken up naturally.
How does the brain control the functions in your body?
The brain communicates with other organs to ensure their cooperation. Your brain controls all that happens in your body. It tells both your stomach and lungs what to do; it also controls your legs and arms.
Your brain is made of billions, or neurons, of nerve cells. Action potentials are electrical signals that neurons send to one another. Each neuron has its own cell membrane around its nucleus. Channels within the membrane allow ions such potassium and sodium to enter and leave the cells. The neuron is lit by an electric charge created by the movement of ions.
Neurotransmitters are chemicals released when a neuron fires. Neurotransmitters bind with receptors on the second nerve cell, opening ion channel channels to allow ions in and out. As a result, second neuron fires as well.
Neurotransmitter release occurs when the presynaptic neuron receives an impulse from another neuron. The impulse travels along the synaptic pathway that connects both neurons. The transmitter binds to receptors on the postsynaptic neuron, triggering the firing of the postsynaptic neuron.
For communication within the nervous systems, neurotransmitters are essential. They are also responsible for coordinating activity between various parts of the brain.
Is there a Hollywood blacklist of actors?
There is a Hollywood blacklist.
But, the list has not been made public. As far as we are aware, the names are not even known. Here's why this matters.
The secretive nature of the information is due to the fact that actors and directors on blacklist won't be in a position to find work. The studios would be out of business as they lose money. It would mean they would reduce their expenditure on movies. This would lead to fewer opportunities and less money for blacklisted directors. Which would lead them to go bankrupt.
This could lead to more victims.
In other words, if someone is trying to make an Oscar winning movie, they might have to sign a contract that says they won't speak openly against their employers. This applies to any producer or director who wishes to be nominated.
You hear stories of directors being pressured to remove scenes from films. Or directors threaten to walk out of projects that don’t match their vision.
This is why Hollywood has created a blacklist. If you speak negatively about your employer, you will likely be fired. It's not good for anyone.
Problem is, many people have been falsely charged. They've had the toil to clear their name.
We need to stop this kind of thing before it starts happening again. We must ensure that everyone has the right to express themselves freely.
We need to get rid of Hollywood's blacklist.
What is your most secretive community?
It may surprise you to hear the answer. It could even make you uncomfortable, because it challenges how reality is perceived and lived. But there is an explanation for why this place exists, and it's not what you would expect.
The City of God was its name by the ancient Greeks. It was called the City of Destruction by the Bible.
It is also called Kashi in India (Kashmir). It's known in Russia as Novgorod.
Here in America, however, it is called The Village That Disappeared.
A small community of 1200 people in western New York State vanished. With the exception of a road marker pointing to its former site, there were no remains: cars, bodies, houses.
This little community vanished and no trace remains to indicate where or when it disappeared. Some believe the earth swallowed them up. Some claim it was destroyed by a meteorite impact. Some believe that it was taken by aliens.
Whatever happened, the residents of this once-thriving community are convinced that their town isn't gone forever. They had just moved to a new town.
There is even a website dedicated to tracking the disappearance of the lost city of Zugspitz.
So, where exactly did this town go? Well, it's in Switzerland!
You can find Zugspitze at the border of Austria and Germany. The lake Lake Zugspitze is just beyond the mountain's summit.
It has always fascinated me that so many towns have disappeared, yet some still remain. Why is it that some disappear while others live on? I decided to investigate.
I was curious about the disappearing towns. What is the secret to a town's disappearance? How can a town disappear from existence?
There are several theories behind the disappearing of towns. One theory suggests that a community disappears when all of its buildings are removed. Another theory says that the town just moves. The third theory is that the town was never actually there.
No matter what theories you may have, there is no doubt that many towns across the globe were swallowed by the ground. This video examines the history and current status of these places.
