Among the hundreds of podcasts on the National Public Radio (NPR) docket, there is one that stands out from the crowd. This podcast covers a variety of topics, including medicine, psychology, biology, and medicine. However, it is a little unconventional. This podcast is intended to give viewers a glimpse into exemplary subject matter experts' minds.
Shankar Vedantam, a well-known scientist as well as entrepreneur, produced this audio program. Vedantam is a former reporter at The Washington Post, who recently departed the newsroom to take a stab at his own independent production company. One of the many perks of his new gig is the opportunity to explore topics that would otherwise be out of bounds to him as a freelancer.
While the show was produced on a limited budget, it made no compromises in science and is highly recommended for those who are serious about science. The show is easily ranked among the Top 25 most downloaded podcasts by NPR. Hidden Brain has almost three million downloads. It is hard to believe that Hidden Brain was not a weekly feature of NPR's broadcast schedule. After a three year hiatus, it has resurfaced as a regular program. The podcast's return should be welcomed. Finding new material for the podcast will be its biggest challenge. The Hidden Brain listeners are fortunate that Vedantam can do it all. The show's content, however, is just as varied as its subject matter.
Vedantam has made headlines for his podcast. He has authored two books on neuroscience, published a few research papers, and even co-founded an independent production company. Vedantam, as the title implies, is a firm believer in science. The most noteworthy achievement of the show may have been setting a standard in quality in public radio's otherwise murky waters. The show's best days may yet come, we can only hope.

Like many NPR programs that have been successful, the best days of the show may be behind us. But you can bet Shankar Vedantam will continue to work in other areas. I hope that this podcast will remain the brainchild an educated journalist. Perhaps you can grab some listeners while you wait in line at the office. We hope you find your hidden brain and learn some valuable lessons. Until next time, happy podcasting! Best of luck. The key to the success of this program lies in one simple idea: Make the best of what is available. Everybody needs a little assistance from time to time. The hidden brain may be a long time coming, but with the help of its newest occupants, the show is sure to be a hit.
FAQ
Have you ever wondered how much trash is produced worldwide each day?
The United Nations estimates that the average person generates more than 2.5 pounds of waste each day. This adds up to over 25 million pounds of garbage annually!
Most of this rubbish ends up in landfills or incinerators. But, what happens when those dumpsters fill up? The majority of this rubbish is sent out of the country. The trash is then sent out of the country and dumped in countries where it pollutes ecosystems. But, one man has now discovered exactly where this rubbish goes. Mike Sexton is his nickname. He runs Waste Watchers, a company that monitors the movements of trucks carrying trash all across North America. He then reports back about what happens next.
Sexton stated that he finds the job very satisfying. CNN asked Sexton if he thought it was a lot of fun. "We'll be following these big rigs through town. "Sexton started following truck drivers nearly 20 years ago.
"I just fell in love with it," he said.
He loved the story of the driver who pulled into an abandoned gas station near Los Angeles. Sexton recalls, "The guy was searching for somewhere to put his loads." "He drove along the road and saw this structure. He backed up and entered the building. "There were two enormous roll-off containers filled with stuff. The man removed everything from the truck and started to load it again. He then looked around and decided to load everything. There were tires, rags. furniture, mattresses. boxes, bottles, cans. It was a complete mess. It had been cleaned up before he arrived. There was no trash."
Why did this happen? It's because this area used to be a recycle center. People would drive from all over the country to recycle their trash. Sexton explained that they would bring household items and take them to the building. Then, after they were done, they would empty the containers.
This can happen hundreds of times a week. It can happen hundreds of time per week. Eventually, the truck is so full of junk it stops running. The owner eventually decides to dump the truck.
But, this isn't the only problem that our planet is facing.
Many of these tiny plastic pieces end up in landfills and incinerators. Some are washed into rivers and oceans. Others end up with fish in their stomachs.
Experts warn that if there is no change, the world could soon be facing a food shortage. "If we keep going like we're going, we're not going to make it," one expert warned. But even though scientists agree that the world is headed toward disaster, most people don't seem worried.
What dark secrets do Hollywood have?
Hollywood is full secret societies. There are many secret societies in Hollywood. Some are cult-like, where members adhere to strict rules and rituals. Others are clubs for people who share similar interests.
Some of the most powerful organizations in the industry are even more dangerous. Companies such as the MPAA, which determines film ratings, or the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), that set music licensing fees, are examples of these.
Numerous unions, guilds, and associations represent actors, writers, producers, editors, and other creative professionals. The majority of major television networks and movie studios are owned by large corporations.
It doesn't matter how secretive a group might seem, someone somewhere knows what they are doing. They shouldn't be fearful, however.
Instead, we should embrace these facts. Because they can help us make better decisions.
They tell us what movies will likely succeed, what songs will be popular, and what books will best sell.
They allow us to make informed decisions about what we buy, watch and listen to.
We can trust them so we can ignore their advice when it doesn't suit our taste.
Because we have chosen to ignore their power, they are even more powerful. They are the ultimate arbiters and judges of taste.
You can ignore them if they don't agree with you.
Let's now look at some lesser-known, but still very real Hollywood secret organizations.
You can see why they are so vital.
Why are actors blacklisted?
If you are an actor, you will get more rejection than if you are a writer. As an actor, it's likely that you will be rejected a lot. You will find someone who loves and accepts you eventually.
Actors are usually very talented, meaning they can make a living almost anywhere. Most actors don't care about making money. They love acting, and they love telling stories. Actors are likely to be outspoken.
Even worse, you might be told you are too young or too old to play the part. Sometimes, you may lose an audition for a movie. That happens a lot.
However, once you have been cast, it is possible to face criticism. Some people will say that you look awful or shouldn't wear makeup. If you're lucky, you won't even hear negative comments.
Sometimes, your performance as a fictional character can be ridiculed. Perhaps you're a gay man who everyone believes is straight. You could also play a woman with a tendency to cry a lot, even though she's supposed to be tough.
Or maybe you're asked to change your voice. Sometimes they ask you to sound like a guy or a girl. Most times, though, they want you to sound better.
These criticisms should be ignored. Actors feel like they've failed when told they did wrong. The truth is they haven’t done anything wrong.
They just weren't born with the talent that made them famous. Sometimes they don't fit that bill no matter how hard or if they try.
An actor can be blacklisted for many reasons. Some people don't like actors. Others think that actors are lazy. Others still believe that actors cheat.
It doesn't matter what reason it may be, you won’t be banned if you keep trying. There are plenty of jobs available and you'll find them.
If you persevere, you will eventually succeed.
What is the most interesting fact about the human body?
There are two eyes, two ears. Two nostrils. Four limbs. A mouth, nose and penis. It's true, we have more 50 parts of our body, but there is one thing missing. A heart.
A heart is a pump, which circulates blood throughout our bodies. The blood travels through the veins and arteries, transporting oxygen and nutrients to cells. It also removes carbon dioxide.
Each minute, the heart pumps 5 liters of blood. This amount is equivalent to an adult drinking 2-3 cups of coffee daily.
The heart pumps blood 24 hours a days, 365 days per year. Your heart beats nearly 100 times a minute while sleeping.
The color of someone's skin can tell if they are healthy or not. The capillaries are tiny blood vessels that can be seen on the skin's surface. These tiny vessels transport blood from the larger blood vessels to the heart. The skin turns purple or blue when there is a blockage in blood flow.
Red blood cells are not available to sickle cell patients. Their blood becomes very sticky and hardened, leading to serious illness.
You can use a bandage to stop bleeding if your cut is severe. For the wound to heal properly, blood must continue to flow. Doctors insert a needle into the injured area through the skin. This allows blood drainage from the injury area.
A doctor can also insert tubes (catheters), into an artery in the vicinity of where blood clots form. This keeps the patient alive till the blood clot dissolves naturally.
