FAQ
How does your brain control your body's functions?
The brain relays messages to other parts of the body to ensure their functionality. Your body's functions are controlled by your brain. It tells both your stomach and lungs what to do; it also controls your legs and arms.
Your brain is made up of billions upon billions of nerve cells that are connected together in groups called neuronal groups. Action potentials on Axons are an electrical signal that neurons send to each other. Every neuron has a cell wall around its nucleus. The membrane contains channels that allow ions like sodium and potassium to enter the cell and leave it. The neuron fires when there is ion movement.
Neurotransmitters are chemicals released when a neuron fires. Neurotransmitters attach to the receptors of the second neuron and open ions channels for ions to pass in and out. As a result, the second neuron fires too.
Neurotransmitter releases occur when a presynaptic neurons receives an input from another neuron. The impulse travels along the synaptic pathway that connects both neurons. The transmitter binds to receptors on the postsynaptic neuron, triggering the firing of the postsynaptic neuron.
They are vital for the communication between nerve cells. They coordinate brain activity among different parts.
What is the most mysterious location on Earth?
Antarctica is the most mysterious continent on Earth.
This is why we find it so captivating. Because it is unlike anything else on Earth.
It is remote, isolated, and extremely difficult to visit. It is not what you see.
You will also find some of the oddest wildlife species in this natural wonder.
Let's see how this incredible destination became famous for its mystery.
Antarctica: The South Pole
It is not known why Antarctica was called Antarctica. Some say it means "land on ice." Some believe it means "land of ice". Others believe it is Greek mythology.
Antarktis in ancient Greece was the name given the island where Zeus' twin brother brothers were born. According to some legends, one of these twins was born in winter. The term antarctic is derived from this.
Others believe that the name comes from the Greek words anti meaning against and tropos meaning to turn. This would signify land turned away the sun.
No matter the reason, Antarctica is a place that has always fascinated people.
It is the continent with the lowest, windiest and highest temperatures. Because it is too frigid, there are no trees, animals, or plants.
And yet, this frozen wasteland is teeming with life.
Here are about 90% of all the living creatures on Earth. Here are approximately 50% of all the animal and plant species in the world.
What is it that makes Antarctica so unique? Here water freezes to ice and not evaporates into the atmosphere.
This causes large amounts of ice to float above ground.
These glaciers cover more than 80% of the continent. They are growing in size every year.
Since 1960, the Antarctic ice sheets has grown 60ft.
If the melting continues, sea level could rise up to 200ft. This could lead to massive flooding across the globe.
However, not all scientists believe this to be bad news. Some scientists think global warming might be beneficial. They suggest that rising temperatures could cause ice sheet melt faster, leading to floods that flush out toxic chemicals from soil and bodies.
But others warn that this theory sounds like a plot from a science fiction movie.
Five interesting facts about your liver.
The liver is responsible in breaking down toxins, storing vitamins and mineral, and for regulating blood pressure. It also regulates blood pressure, and maintains our body's temperature.
We hear it all the time: "I feel sluggish today" or "my head feels heavy". These symptoms may indicate problems with the liver.

Ever wonder how much trash gets produced each day around the world?
According to the United Nations there are more than 25 billion tons of garbage produced each year.
Most of this rubbish ends up in landfills or incinerators. But, what happens when those dumpsters fill up? Most of that trash is shipped out of the country. The trash is then sent out of the country and dumped in countries where it pollutes ecosystems. But, one man has now discovered exactly where this rubbish goes. His name is Mike Sexton. He is the founder of Waste Watchers. He watches over trucks that transport trash across North America. He reports back to us about the next steps.
Sexton states that he finds his work very fulfilling. CNN spoke with Sexton that they have a lot fun. "You know, we see these big rigs come through town, and we'll follow them. "Sexton began following truck drivers almost 20 years ago.
He stated, "I just fell in Love with It."
His favorite story is about a driver that pulled into an abandoned gas station just outside Los Angeles. Sexton described, "The guy was looking somewhere to put his load." "He drove down the street and saw this building. He stopped and pulled up, then he went inside. "There were 2 large containers that had been rolled off, and they were full of stuff. The man removed everything from the truck and started to load it again. "Then he looked at the place and decided to unload everything. There were a bunch of old tires, rags, furniture, mattresses, boxes, bottles, cans, and whatever else. "It was just a total mess. But it had been cleaned out before he came along. There was no trash."
What is the explanation? Well, the answer is that this particular location used to be part of a recycling center.People who learned about this facility would drive here to recycle their trash. Sexton explained, "They would bring their household goods and take them here," and they would then empty the containers.
You might see this happen hundreds of times a day. The truck can be stopped running if it is so full of junk that it has to come back hundreds of times per week. The truck eventually stops running and the owner decides that it is time to get rid of the vehicle.
However, trash is not the only problem on our planet.
These tiny plastic particles make up the majority of the particles. Some end up in incinerators or landfills. Others get washed into rivers or oceans. And when they reach the ocean, they often end up in the stomachs of fish.
Experts warn us that we may soon face an international food shortage if things don't change. Experts warn, "If you keep going like you're going," we could soon face a global food shortage. But most people don't seem to be worried, even though scientists are unanimous in warning us that the world is heading towards disaster.

Hollywood scandals that shocked all of the world
Nothing is more shocking than seeing someone famous for wrong reasons. There's nothing more shocking than watching someone fall from grace.
The best thing about watching how an industry reacts when it makes mistakes is the best part. We have all heard of celebrities who overdosed on drugs and alcohol. Some even died young because of it.
But the worst part is when those same stars go public with their problems and are shunned by everyone. We were there last week.
After a long and successful career, Heath Ledger finally succumbed to his demons. After a short battle with death, Heath Ledger succumbed to prescription pills.
His family and his friends struggled with the news and the media went after him.
Heath was once considered to be one of today's most talented actors. His performances in Brokeback Mountain earned Heath two Academy Award nominations.
Heath was not only an actor, but also directed and wrote films like A Knight's Tale and Monster's Ball.
Hollywood loved Heath. But he was too big for his boots. He became addicted to drugs and drank heavily. He ended up in rehab and became clean.
Now that he was sober, he wanted to make amends. He made a documentary called "Room 237," that chronicled the making and release of The Shining. The film was originally supposed to be released in this year's theaters, but it will not make its way into the cinemas until next year.
Heath was unsuccessful in his attempts to get back into Hollywood. In fact, he was arrested twice on drug charges.
We're not saying Heath should have been allowed back into show business. However, it would be nice if he could get some help before things spiral out of control.
We hope Heath’s tale will be a wakeup call to anyone who may believe that they can still have all.
