Even though the title of my snobbish, book club is held by an idiotically misguided slacker at the moment, I've discovered that he is capable of stopping my naysayer from getting out of control. Therefore, he is my nominee for the naysayer-of-the-year award. The above-mentioned slacker is sure to be a happy camper. This slacker might not be the only one around. The above-mentioned lacker is currently in a bad mood so he is prime candidate of my good ol’time slackers of the year award.
FAQ
What is the most secretive place in the world, and why?
The answer may shock you. It may even make it uncomfortable, as it challenges our perceptions of reality and our lives. But there is a reason why this place exists. And it is not what you would expect.
It was known as the City of God to the ancient Greeks. It was also called the City of Destruction in the Bible.
In India, it's called Kashi (Kashmir). It is also called Novgorod in Russia.
Here in America, however, it is called The Village That Disappeared.
One tiny town in western New York State lost its 1,200 inhabitants without trace. No bodies, cars, houses, nothing was left behind except a road sign pointing to its former location.
The little village vanished, with no trace of its existence. Some say the earth swallowed it up. Others say it was destroyed in a meteorite collision. Others believe that aliens took it.
Despite what may have happened, the people who lived in this once-thriving area are confident that their town will not be lost forever. They just moved to another city.
There's even a website that tracks the disappearances and recoveries of Zugspitz.
The question is, where did this place go? It's in Switzerland.
Zugspitze lies on the border between Austria and Germany. Just beyond the summit of the mountain is a huge lake called Lake Zugspitze.
It has always fascinated me that so many towns have disappeared, yet some still remain. What is the difference between some towns that disappear and others that survive? I set out to find out.
I wanted to learn more about mysteriously disappearing towns. What causes a community to disappear? How can one place vanish from existence?
There are several theories behind the disappearing of towns. One theory is that a city disappears after all buildings have been demolished. Another theory suggests that the town simply moves somewhere else. A third theory holds that the town did not exist.
Theories aside, the fact remains that dozens of towns around the globe have been swallowed up by the ground. This video explores the history of these towns and examines their current state.

How does the brain regulate the functions of the body?
The brain sends messages to other organs and muscles to ensure they work together. Everything in your body is controlled and managed by your brain. It tells you your stomach to digest food; your lungs to inhale air; and it tells you your arms and legs how to move.
Your brain is made up of billions upon billions of nerve cells that are connected together in groups called neuronal groups. Action potentials, which are electrical signals sent by neurons to each other via axons, allow them to communicate with one another. Each neuron has its own cell membrane around its nucleus. Inside the membrane are channels that allow ions such as sodium and potassium to enter and leave the cell. The neuron fires when there is ion movement.
When a neuron fires, chemicals called neurotransmitters are released into the space between the neuron and the next neuron. Neurotransmitters are able to bind to receptors in the second neuron. This opens ion channels that allow ions to flow in and out. As a result, the second neuron fires too.
Neurotransmitter releases occur when a presynaptic neurons receives an input from another neuron. The impulse travels along the synapse connecting the two neurons. The transmitter binds to the receptors on the postsynaptic neural cell, which triggers the firing of that neuron.
Neurotransmitters are important for communication within the nervous system. They coordinate brain activity among different parts.
Is there any Hollywood blacklist for actors?
There is a Hollywood blacklist.
The list isn’t available for public viewing. The names are not known to us. But here's why it matters.
The reason for the secrecy is that the blacklisted actors and directors wouldn't be able to find jobs. The studios would be out of business as they lose money. They would also cut back on their spending on movies. This would lead to fewer opportunities and less money for blacklisted directors. Which would lead them to go bankrupt.
Which could ultimately result in more victims.
A contract may be required to agree to not speak against employers if someone attempts to make an Oscar winning movie. This applies to any producer or director who wishes to be nominated.
This is why you'll hear about directors being pressured by producers to take scenes out of their films. Directors may threaten to quit projects that don’t align with their vision.
This is the reason there is a Hollywood blacklist. If you are negative about your employer, you'll most likely go unemployed. It's not good for anyone.
It is not uncommon for people to be falsely accused. They have had to fight for their freedom.
This kind of thing must stop before it can happen again. We must ensure that everyone has the right to express themselves freely.
So we need to take down the Hollywood blacklist.
