Antarctica: The South Pole
No one knows exactly why Antarctica was named Antarctica. Some believe it refers to "land of ice". Others believe it comes from Greek mythology.

Others believe the name was derived from the Greek words tropos, which means turn, and anti, meaning against. This would translate to land that is turned away from the sun.

It is also the lowest, windiest continent, driest, and highest. It is too cold for trees, plants and animals.
Yet, life is abundant in this frozen wilderness.

What makes Antarctica so special? Here, water freezes in ice rather that vaporizing into the atmosphere.

The Antarctic ice has grown 60 feet so far since 1960.
If the melting goes on, the sea level may rise by as much as 200 feet. This could lead to massive flooding across the globe.
But not everyone thinks this is bad news. Some scientists believe that global warming can be beneficial. They suggest that rising temperatures could cause ice sheet melt faster, leading to floods that flush out toxic chemicals from soil and bodies.
Others warn that this theory sounds like something out of a science-fiction movie.
How does your brain control the functions within your body?
To ensure that other organs and muscle functions work together, the brain sends messages. The brain controls everything that happens in your body. It tells you your stomach to digest food; your lungs to inhale air; and it tells you your arms and legs how to move.
Your brain consists of billions of nerve cells connected in groups called neurons. Neurons communicate by sending electrical signals, called action potentials, on axons. Every neuron has an outer cell membrane that surrounds its nucleus. The cell membrane houses channels that allow ions, such as potassium and sodium, to enter and exit the cells. The neuron fires when there is ion movement.
Neurotransmitters, which are chemicals that release neurotransmitters when a neuron fires up, can be found in the space between the neurons and the next one. Neurotransmitters bind to receptors on the second neuron, opening ion channels so ions can pass in and out of the channel. In turn, the second neuron also fires.

Sexton said he enjoys his job. CNN interviewed Sexton and said that he has a lot of fun. "We often see large rigs passing through our town and we will follow them. "Sexton began to follow truck drivers around 20 years ago.
"It's all I felt," he stated.
Sexton loved the story about the driver who pulled over at an abandoned gas station close to Los Angeles. Sexton described, "The guy was looking somewhere to put his load." "He drove down the road and saw this building. So he pulled over and went inside. "There were 2 large containers that had been rolled off, and they were full of stuff. The man removed everything from the truck and started to load it again. "Then he looked at the place and decided to unload everything. There were a bunch of old tires, rags, furniture, mattresses, boxes, bottles, cans, and whatever else. "It was just an absolute mess. It had been cleaned up before he arrived. There was not a single piece of trash.
What is the explanation? The answer is that this location was once part of a recycling facility. People who knew about it would drive to this location to recycle their garbage. Sexton explained that people would bring home their household items, and then take them to the building. After they were done, they would dispose of the empty containers.
This could happen hundreds of time per week. It can happen hundreds of time per week. Eventually, the truck is so full of junk it stops running. The owner eventually decides to dump the truck.
Trash is not the only problem our planet faces.
