To ensure that they work together, messages are sent by the brain to other organs. Your brain controls all that happens in your body. It tells you your stomach to digest food; your lungs to inhale air; and it tells you your arms and legs how to move.
Your brain is composed of billions and billions nerve cells, connected in groups called neurons. Neurons communicate with each other by sending electrical signals called action potentials on axons. Each neuron has its own cell membrane around its nucleus. The cell membrane houses channels that allow ions, such as potassium and sodium, to enter and exit the cells. The neuron is lit by an electric charge created by the movement of ions.
Neurotransmitters, which are chemicals that release neurotransmitters when a neuron fires up, can be found in the space between the neurons and the next one. Neurotransmitters can bind to receptors at the second neuron. They open ions channels, allowing ions to move in and outside of the channel. This causes the second neuron to fire too.
Neurotransmitter release occurs when the presynaptic neuron receives an impulse from another neuron. An impulse travels along a synapse that connects the two neurons. The transmitter binds at the receptors of the post-synaptic Neuron and triggers its firing.
They are vital for the communication between nerve cells. They coordinate brain activity among different parts.

He is the owner of Waste Watchers. His job involves monitoring the movements and routes of trash trucks across North America. He then reports back to us on what happens next.
Sexton says he finds his job very satisfying. "We've got a lot of fun," he told CNN. "We often see large rigs passing through our town and we will follow them. "Sexton started following truck drivers nearly 20 years ago.
"I just fell in love with it," he said.
His favorite story involved a driver who pulled off at an abandoned gas station near Los Angeles. Sexton remembered, "The man was looking for somewhere to put the load." "He drove along the road and saw this structure. So he backed up and went inside. "There was a pair of large, full-sized roll-off boxes. The man took all the stuff out and filled up his truck with more. He then looked around and decided to load everything. There were old tires and rags, furniture pieces, mattresses, mattresses and boxes. It was a complete mess. But it had been cleared out before he arrived. There was not a single piece of trash.
What is the explanation? It's because this area used to be a recycle center. People would drive from all over the country to recycle their trash. Sexton explained, "They would bring their household goods and take them here," and they would then empty the containers.
This can happen hundreds of times a week. It can happen hundreds of time per week. Eventually, the truck is so full of junk it stops running. The owner finally decides to stop using the truck.
But, this isn't the only problem that our planet is facing.

What is it that makes Antarctica so unique? Here, water is frozen into ice rather than vaporizing into the air.

These floating glaciers make up 80%. These glaciers are getting larger each year.
So far, the Antarctic ice sheet has grown 60 feet since 1960.
The sea level could rise to 200 feet if the melting continues. This could lead to widespread flooding.
Not everyone believes this is bad news. Global warming may be beneficial for some scientists. They say that as temperatures rise, the ice sheets might melt faster, causing floods that flush out tons of toxic chemicals from our soil and bodies.
Others, however, warn that this theory sounds almost like a plot for a science fiction film.
