His favorite story is about a driver that pulled into an abandoned gas station just outside Los Angeles. "The guy was looking for someplace to put his load," Sexton recalled. "He drove down the road and saw this building. So he backed up and went inside. "There was a pair of large, full-sized roll-off boxes. The man removed everything from the truck and started to load it again. "Then he looked at the place and decided to unload everything. There were a bunch of old tires, rags, furniture, mattresses, boxes, bottles, cans, and whatever else. It was a complete mess. But it had been cleared out before he arrived. There wasn’t trash everywhere."
Why did this happen? It is because the location used to belong to a recycling centre. People who found out about this facility would drive to it to recycle their trash. Sexton explained that they would bring household items and take them to the building. Then, after they were done, they would empty the containers.
You might see this happen hundreds of times a day. The truck can be stopped running if it is so full of junk that it has to come back hundreds of times per week. And eventually, the owner decides to abandon the vehicle.
Trash is not the only problem our planet faces.
