FAQ

Do you wonder how much trash is produced each day across the globe?

According to the United Nations, the average person produces over 2.5 pounds of daily waste. That adds up to over 25 billion pounds of garbage per year!

Many of this trash ends in landfill dumps, or incinerators. But what happens if those dumpsters are full? It goes to the United States, where most of it is exported. The trash is then sent out of the country and dumped in countries where it pollutes ecosystems. But, one man has now discovered exactly where this rubbish goes. Mike Sexton is his real name. He is the founder of Waste Watchers. He watches over trucks that transport trash across North America. He reports back to us about the next steps.

Sexton said he enjoys his job. CNN spoke with Sexton that they have a lot fun. "We see big rigs coming through town and we'll follow them. "Sexton began to follow truck drivers around 20 years ago.

"I just fell in love with it," he said.

His favorite story involved a driver who pulled off at an abandoned gas station near Los Angeles. Sexton remembered, "The man was looking for somewhere to put the load." "He drove down the road and saw this building. He backed up and entered the building. "There were two large roll-off containers full of stuff. The guy took everything out and started filling up the truck again. "Then he looked at the place and decided to unload everything. There were a bunch of old tires, rags, furniture, mattresses, boxes, bottles, cans, and whatever else. "It was just a total mess. But it had been cleared out before he arrived. There wasn't any trash."

Why did this happen? The answer is that this location was once part of a recycling facility. People who knew about it would drive to this location to recycle their garbage. "They'd bring their household items and take them to this building," Sexton explained. And after they finished, they would leave the empty containers behind.

This could happen hundreds of time per week. The truck can be stopped running if it is so full of junk that it has to come back hundreds of times per week. The owner eventually decides to dump the truck.

Trash, however, isn't the only problem facing our planet. As you may have noticed, things are getting worse.According to experts, pollution levels have risen dramatically in recent years.More than half of all water bodies on Earth are polluted.Pollution from industrial chemicals has increased by more than 30 percent since 1980.Even the air we breathe is becoming increasingly toxic.A study by the World Health Organization found that the average person inhales around 100 million particles daily.

Many of these tiny plastic pieces end up in landfills and incinerators. Others get washed into rivers or oceans. And when they reach the ocean, they often end up in the stomachs of fish.

Experts warn that the world may soon face a shortage of food if we don't make any changes. One expert said, "If we keep going as we are going, we're never going to make it," but most people don’t seem concerned.

Is there a more mysterious place than the Earth itself?

Antarctica is considered the most mysterious area on Earth.

Why is this place so amazing? Because it is unlike anything else on Earth.

It is very remote and isolated. It is not what you see.

You'll also find the strangest species of wildlife in this natural wonder.

Let's look at how this extraordinary destination became so mysterious.

Antarctica: The South Pole

Antarctica is named for no one. Some say it means "land on ice." Some believe it means "land of ice". Others believe it is Greek mythology.

Antarktis in ancient Greece was the name given the island where Zeus' twin brother brothers were born. According to some legends, one of these twins was born in winter. Hence, the word antarctic.

Others believe the name was derived from the Greek words tropos, which means turn, and anti, meaning against. This would translate to land that is turned away from the sun.

Whatever the reason, Antarctica has always held a special fascination for people.

It is the driest, windiest of all continents. It is too cold to support trees, plants, and animals.

Yet, this frozen wasteland is alive.

It is home to approximately 90 percent of all life on Earth. You can find approximately half the world's species of animal and plant plants here.

What makes Antarctica so special? Here, water freezes in ice rather that vaporizing into the atmosphere.

This results in large masses of ice floating above the ground.

These floating glaciers cover 80% of the continent. And they're growing larger every year.

So far, the Antarctic ice sheet has grown 60 feet since 1960.

The sea level could rise to 200 feet if the melting continues. That could cause massive flooding around the globe.

However, not all scientists believe this to be bad news. Some scientists believe that global warming can be beneficial. They believe that global warming will lead to melting ice sheets faster and floods that can flush toxic chemicals out of our soils and bodies.

But others warn that this theory sounds like a plot from a science fiction movie.

How does your brain control your body's functions?

To ensure that other organs and muscle functions work together, the brain sends messages. Your brain controls all that happens in your body. It tells you your stomach to digest food; your lungs to inhale air; and it tells you your arms and legs how to move.

Your brain is made up of billions upon billions of nerve cells that are connected together in groups called neuronal groups. Neurons communicate with each other by sending electrical signals called action potentials on axons. Every neuron has a cell wall around its nucleus. There are channels within the membrane that allow ions such a sodium or potassium to enter and exit the cell. The electric charge that causes the neuron's fire is created by ion movement.

When a neuron fires, chemicals called neurotransmitters are released into the space between the neuron and the next neuron. Neurotransmitters bind to receptors on the second neuron, opening ion channels so ions can pass in and out of the channel. This causes the second neuron to fire too.

Neurotransmitter release occurs when the presynaptic neuron receives an impulse from another neuron. The impulse travels along the synapse connecting the two neurons. The transmitter binds to receptors on the postsynaptic neuron, triggering the firing of the postsynaptic neuron.

Communication within the nervous system is possible thanks to neurotransmitters. They also help coordinate activity between different parts of the brain.

Is there a Hollywood blacklist?

There is a Hollywood blacklist.

But, the list has not been made public. As far as we know, the names aren't even known. It matters because of this.

The secret reason is that directors and actors who are on the blacklist would not be able to find employment. Thus, they would leave the industry and studios will lose money. Which means they'd cut back on spending money on movies. That would reduce the opportunities for blacklisted filmmakers. They could go bankrupt.

This could mean more victims.

When someone tries making an Oscar winning movie they might be asked for a contract. This means that they can't publicly criticize their employer. Producers and directors who want to be nominated are subject to the same restrictions.

You hear stories of directors being pressured to remove scenes from films. Or directors threaten to walk out of projects that don’t match their vision.

This is why there is a Hollywood blacklist. Negative comments about your employer will most likely lead to you being unemployed. It's not good for anyone.

It is not uncommon for people to be falsely accused. It's been a struggle to get their names cleared.

This kind of thing must stop before it can happen again. It is essential that everyone has the freedom to express their opinions.

We must get rid of the Hollywood blacklist.
