FAQ
Do you wonder how much trash is produced each day across the globe?
According to the United Nations there are more than 25 billion tons of garbage produced each year.
Most of this trash ends up in landfill dumps or incinerators. But what happens when those dumpsters get full? It goes to the United States, where most of it is exported. The rest is dumped abroad, where it pollutes other ecosystems. Now, we know the exact location of all this garbage. Mike Sexton is his full name. He runs Waste Watchers, a company that monitors the movements of trucks carrying trash all across North America. He reports back to us about the next steps.
Sexton said he enjoys his job. "We've got a lot of fun," he told CNN. "We see big rigs coming through town and we'll follow them. "Sexton began to follow truck drivers around 20 years ago.
He stated that he fell in love with the product.
His favorite story is about a driver that pulled into an abandoned gas station just outside Los Angeles. Sexton remembered, "The man was looking for somewhere to put the load." "He drove down the road and saw this building. So he pulled over and went inside. "There were two enormous roll-off containers filled with stuff. The man removed everything from the truck and started to load it again. He then looked around and decided to load everything. There were tires, rags. furniture, mattresses. boxes, bottles, cans. It was a complete mess. It had been cleaned up before he arrived. There was no trash."
What is the explanation? The answer is that this location was once part of a recycling facility. People who knew about it would drive to this location to recycle their garbage. Sexton explained that people would bring home their household items, and then take them to the building. After they were done, they would dispose of the empty containers.
Now, because of the way the law works, once a container reaches its destination, it cannot be opened. So no matter how often someone takes something out of it, the thing will never be emptied.Every time the truck comes by, it has to start over again. It can happen hundreds of time per week. Eventually, the truck is so full of junk it stops running. The owner eventually abandons the vehicle.
Trash isn’t the only problem we face on the planet.
Most of these particles are made up of tiny pieces of plastic. Some of these plastics end up in landfills or incinerators. Some of these plastics end up in rivers or oceans.
Experts warn us that we may soon face an international food shortage if things don't change. "If we keep going like we're going, we're not going to make it," one expert warned. But even though scientists agree that the world is headed toward disaster, most people don't seem worried.
Which is the most mysterious spot on Earth?
Antarctica is home to the most mysterious and remote place on Earth.
What is it that makes this place so interesting? It is unlike any other place on Earth.
It is very remote and isolated. However, there's more to this location than meets the eye.
This natural wonder is also home to some of the strangest wildlife species.
So let's explore how this remarkable destination became famous for its mystery.
Antarctica: The South Pole
Antarctica is not known by anyone. Some believe it means "land of ice." Others think it comes from Greek mythology.
In ancient Greece, Antarktis was the name given to the island where Zeus' twin brothers were born. According to one source, one of the twins was conceived in winter. The term antarctic is derived from this.
Others think the name came from the Greek words anti, meaning against, and tropos meaning turn. This would translate to land that is turned away from the sun.
Whatever the reason Antarctica has held a special fascination for people, it is undeniable.
It is also the lowest, windiest continent, driest, and highest. Because it is so cold, there aren't any trees, plants or animals.
Yet, life is abundant in this frozen wilderness.
It is home to approximately 90 percent of all life on Earth. You can find approximately half the world's species of animal and plant plants here.
And what makes Antarctica such a unique environment? Here, water is frozen into ice rather than vaporizing into the air.
This causes large ice masses to rise above the ground.
These floating glaciers cover over 80%. They continue to grow in size each year.
Since 1960, the Antarctic ice sheets has grown 60ft.
If the melting continues, the sea level will rise by up to 200 feet. This could lead to massive flooding across the globe.
This is not necessarily bad news. Some scientists claim that global warming could be good for us. They claim that the melting of ice sheets could accelerate as temperatures rise. This would lead to flooding that removes tons of toxic chemicals and soil from our bodies.
However, others caution that this theory sounds a lot like a plot in a science fiction movie.
How does your brain control your body's functions?
To ensure that other organs and muscle functions work together, the brain sends messages. Everything that happens within your body is controlled by the brain. It tells the stomach to digest food, and the lungs to breath air. It also tells your legs and arms to move.
Your brain is composed of billions and billions nerve cells, connected in groups called neurons. Action potentials are electrical signals that neurons send to one another. Each neuron has a cell membrane surrounding its nucleus. Channels within the membrane allow ions such potassium and sodium to enter and leave the cells. The neuron is lit by an electric charge created by the movement of ions.
Neurotransmitters, chemical substances that are released when a neuron fires. Neurotransmitters attach to the receptors of the second neuron and open ions channels for ions to pass in and out. As a result, second neuron fires as well.
Neurotransmitter releases occur when a presynaptic neurons receives an input from another neuron. An impulse travels along a synapse that connects the two neurons. The transmitter binds at the receptors of the post-synaptic Neuron and triggers its firing.
For communication within the nervous systems, neurotransmitters are essential. They are also responsible for coordinating activity between various parts of the brain.
What are the darkest secrets of Hollywood?
Hollywood is filled secret societies. Many secret societies are cult-like and follow rigid rules. Others are just clubs for people with common interests.
Some of the most powerful organizations in the industry are even more dangerous. These include companies such as the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), which sets film ratings, and the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), which sets music licensing fees.
Numerous unions or guilds also represent producers, writers, actors, etc. Many of the major TV networks and movie studios are owned or controlled by large corporations.
It doesn't really matter how secretive an organization may appear, there is always someone who knows exactly what they do. But that doesn't mean we should fear them.
Instead, embrace them. Because they help us make better choices.
They can tell us which movies and songs are likely to be successful, as well as what books and novels will be most popular.
In short, they help us decide what we'll buy, watch, read, and listen to.
We can trust their advice and we can ignore it if it contradicts our values.
And because we've chosen to ignore them, they become even more powerful. They are the ultimate arbiters and judges of taste.
And if you don't like what they say, you're free to ignore them.
So now let's look at some of the lesser-known but still very real Hollywood secret societies.
Observe why they are important.
